Znimax Online has released the first developer diary of The Elder Scrolls Online to indtroduce the game's basics, combat system and exploration among other things.
I expected the game would downgrade Skyrim's visual standard to something simple like World of Warcraft models and muddy textures, but this doesn't look that much worser than skyrim.
Question is: will it be Sub based? My MMO fix is currently being served by GW2. I like that I can come back to the game and not be SOOO far behind that I burn out trying to catch up. I love the elderscrolls world and stories, I really hope they impliment the factions/guilds from Morrowind (ie. morag tong). Furthermore, it'll be interesting to see how their combat plays out, especially if there's any PvP involved. Playing GW2's combat has left me horribly spoiled, especially after moving to it from WoW.

It does look like shit because you have to show the vanilla, original as released version of Skyrim, not images that has been modded the hell out of it.
Only times were it looks nice is when you are up in the highest mountain with heavy snow effect.
Why are the images so upclose to stuff that everything else is not included?
The point of a screenshot IMO is to have a big field of view to see alot, thats the real eye opener.
Its like if a game had great main character designs but environments was crap, so people decide to just show images of the main character models and not the full environment just to hide the uglyness.
Some of the shots look ok, but overall, it seems like the textures, geometry, draw distance, and resolution of things like the sky have been downgraded quite a bit (to be expected with mmo). It actually looks even worse due to the more cartoony looking color scheme and art style they chose. To me it looks about on par with console versions of skyrim, with slightly up-resd textures (look at the enemy textures and effects in shot 3).
Overall though, not a fan of MMO's and I was hoping the Elder Scrolls would be one of the few game series that could stick with what made it popular and resist the temptation $ from online gaming. Doesn't bother me too much as long as it doesn't inhibit work on TES VI....
I hope they don't put too much money into this, so future Elder Scrolls games could suffer of it if the game does not sell well. MMO's are a risky business.
Don't understand why developers insist on trying to take on WoW. SWTOR had all the potential and a little bit more of the Elder Scrolls online and still fell short. Just a drain on their wallets.

I dont think youll have to worry about that. Even if this crashes and burns theyll just keep on cranking out games. TES is way too big to sink with one shitty spinoff.
