Appreciate the effort. Days gone by far the most impressive geometry. By then it is no suprise, the best showcases for "next gen" will be under Unreal engine. Btw, kudos for insomniac, they nailed it with the Spider-Man remastered & MM.

Man, Bluepoint are great artists on tech and they can be one hell of copy-cats and restorers, but ask'em to be original and do something from their own "sensibility" and they flauter like amateurs. (Shadow of the Colossus wanderer)

That Maiden in Black is just Melanie Griffith photogrammetry, isn't it?

Er joking right? It's not even close to what Demon's Souls is doing, literally everything is tessellated in DS that makes Days Gone look flat like paper. Not that Days Gone is bad looking by any means tho.

Not at all. I think it's extremely overrated for what it does. Other than full dynamic lightning, nothing really stands out. The aesthetics in days gone is far superior. So as godfall indoor levels.

Aethetics and technical achievement are two different things. What DS is doing on a technical level is orders of magnitude more superior, full tessellation on environment, Voxel GI like Lumen from UE5's demo, gpu particles, much higher res texture and assets through and through, all shadow casting dynamic lights, yeah it's not even close. You may argue the foliage laden art direction in Days is more pleasing to the eyes, which I can understand but please don't confuse it with technical graphics tho.

I'm by no means getting my head around. I work with UE environment on a daily basis. The tech side on demon's souls is not what you call "next gen". The order 1886 (same corridor based project as DS) has far superior aesthetics, top notch VFX shaders which still ahead of the game and HDRI which still never neen implemented in any project since. And that's without mentioning the subsurfce scattering and cloth physics on each individual character. I know my tech pretty good, Demon's souls is by no means take any advantage of PS5/XSX or high end PC. It is still within the restrictions of PS4 horse power.

Sorry, I don't agree with that. This is way ahead of any equivalent game I have played on PC or consoles in terms of geometric detail. Just completed Gears 5 on PC for instance, and DS looks a gen ahead of that. Order 1886 looks great and all but it is no contest, DS is far more impressive from a geometric detail perspective.

You don't have to. At the end of the day each will enjoy the platform/game of choice. I was referring to the other guy. You are more than welcome to do a research about what I said and provide an evidence that shows otherwise.

You're pretty wrong here. The Order doesn't even use full dynamic GI like DS is doing here, everything is baked lighting in The Order, also no tessellation, the amount of high res assets are far less. There's no one singular next gen effect, even PS4 could do raytracing given enough sacrifices. If it's so within PS4's limitation then why hasn't a single PS4 game looking remotely as good? Where can I find a PS4 or X1X game that does this insane amount of tessellation, real time Voxel GI, advanced particles, crazy level of high res assets all at once at 4k? As a 3d artist myself I know my tech also very well, you simply don't have the hardware grunt to pull off Demon's Soul's visuals on a PS4. Even Digitalfoundry agreed how this IS the best looking next gen game this year, but you're free to prefer Day' Gone's aesthetics tho since it's a art style preference than technical.

you provided an opinion with some comments regarding specific techniques, without any evidence. I don't have the time to provide evidence, the proof is in the pudding though. I mean the difference in environmental geometry between DS and whatever current gen action adventure game you care to list is stark to say the least.

It's not an opinions but factual information. You can check the siggraph presentation which provided by the dev team. Unlike DS, When it comes to CG tech, no other project implemented what the order 1886 did to date.

Demon's Souls doesn't look that great to me. The environments look pretty simple and it's still PS3 era level design and mechanics. It's easy to put a fancy coat of paint on it and put everything into visuals since you have a lot of processing power leftover to do so. Some of the GI looks good but I think there are plenty of other games from last gen that are more detailed. And mark my words here and now, it will come to the PS4 at a lower res and 30 fps. It's a last, last gen game with an end of last gen makeover. Games like Scorn, RDR2, TLOU2, Shadow Warrior 3, Battlefield 5... even Battlefront 2015 still looks better to me.

DS is a launch game for PS5 and is supposed to be one of the system sellers. It will probably not come to PS4 as that would remove the need for many to buy a PS5.
