We already posted a preview of The Sinking City 2 a few months ago, and we thought we’d be able to do the same for the review, but because of the release date and our summer vacation, we had to change our plans. Nevertheless, we invite you to check out the beginning of the adventure as well as the start of the sequence that follows the demo’s church scene, along with our comments (in French with automated English subs) on this final version. Critical reception has been mixed for now, with some publications praising Frogwares’ new game to the skies and others focusing primarily on its shortcomings. As for us—even without having seen enough for our opinion to carry any real weight—we think we fall somewhere in between. The game boasts truly impressive visuals for its budget, the atmosphere is spot-on, and even though animations are stiff and the combat system and is quite average in terms of feedback, we find this sequel has a genuine double-A charm. Keep in mind, however, that we also enjoyed the first installment, which may influence our perspective.

The game follows the structure of the famous Nintendo title, featuring progression that must be completed in a single playthrough, possible branching paths, anthropomorphic heroes, and, of course, tried-and-true 3D on-rails shooter gameplay. To say that Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns was the unexpected release of this month would be quite an understatement, but fans of the original will probably be very happy to be given a chance to play the game again in both Retro and Classic modes. The Kingdom mode, which transforms the iconic game into a deckbuilding roguelike, is however the most interesting one, with more playability. As it's not exactly a genre we are accustomed to, it's hard to tell you how it fares compared to the best games relying on such mechanics, but it's a new way to discover Defender of the Crown for sure. Duskfade will launch today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. This new action platformer combines Kingdom Hearts combat with exploration of PS2 classics like Jak and Daxter or Ratchet & Clank. Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been available for a few days on PlayStation 5 and PC. Whilst it has received a generally enthusiastic critical reception for its combat system and production values, the launch has been somewhat more mixed for PC players, who have experienced a number of rather frustrating technical issues.
