We don't know about you guys but we never felt attracted to Bubsy and to us, it's always been a pretty average franchise at best. The third game is even pretty infamous because of its horrendous playability due to bad camera angles among other things. Needless to say we had no interest in the (bad) 2017 and 2018 attempts to revive the series. Bubsy 4D is different though, as the studio behind it is a competent one when it comes to old school 3D platformers. They indeed released Demon Tides earlier this year (and Demon Turf before that) and these are game that have received a positive welcome by the players. It is no surprise then to see similarities in terms of gameplay mechanics between the studio's previous games and this new Bubsy game. As for us, we stand our ground, we still don't like the character and the world he evolves in, but if you like the genre and you don't mind the art style and (potentially annoying) humor, you might want to check it out, provided you don't mind it being short (unless you aim for the 100% completion challenge).

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will officially be released in two days but those who have purchased the Deluxe Edition can already play the game. As we were sent a PC code yesterday, here is a long video showing the full introduction and the beginning of the first chapter of this new title focused on the Dark Knight. As you'll see, the game looks very good overall, with pretty detailed textures, but we have spotted a bunch of optimisation issues that will hopefully be addressed soon (some quick frame drops in one gameplay sequence and a few micro-freezes in some cutscenes or when driving the Batmobile in Gotham). As for the rest, fans of the Arkham series will be delighted to see that this installment retains much of the series’ signature style (combat, stealth, gadgets), which comes as no surprise given that Rocksteady was involved in the game’s development.

After Dead as Disco, here's a very different atmosphere, The Caribou Trail plunges us into the horrors of World War I through the eyes of a young Canadian soldier from Newfoundland and two of his friends. This title from the Montreal studio Unreliable Narrators is a narrative game with a fairly minimalist visual style, yet it proves to be artistically very successful, and it offers voice acting in both English and French Canadian. We get a glimpse into the soldiers’ daily lives outside of combat and on missions, along with their doubts and fears, of course. The events depicted here are inspired by real-life events, and from what little we’ve seen, the whole experience is quite engaging despite gameplay mechanics that are fairly simplistic overall. We particularly appreciate the little historical tidbits that accompany the various collectible items. We’ll let you enjoy the first forty-eight minutes of the adventure in its PC version, while we wait for the PS5 release on July 7.

As surprising as it may seem, not all games released in Early Access are roguelikes or survival games; there are also a few original propositions, like Dead as Disco. As its name doesn’t necessarily suggest, this title is a musical beat ’em up where the main character fights to the beat of the songs playing in the background, set in environments that are as strange as they are colorful. The game world is clearly crazy in the good sense of the term, the musical styles are varied, and the polished animations and combat system—which is reminiscent of the Batman Arkham series—are easy to pick up. That doesn’t mean the challenge isn’t there, though, and to make it through the few levels available in this Early Access release, you’ll need a bit of training and practice. Developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur, the studio behind The Artful Escape, Mixtape is already available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and we’re sharing our gameplay video captured on Switch 2.

Annapurna Interactive has decided to port several games from its catalogue to the Switch 2, so Sayonara Wild Hearts and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes have been available for a few days now. You can watch our videos of both games captured on Nintendo’s hybrid console. For existing owners of these games on Nintendo Switch, a free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade is available.

We were really excited about the WILL: Follow the Light demo a few months ago, but after a ninety-minute Gamersyde Offline session in French, we came away with rather mixed feelings—even before we found out that the full adventure actually lasts barely four hours in total. Of course, it’s entirely possible that what follows the tedious city segment gets more interesting, but we have to admit that the experience of this narrative setup left us somewhat unimpressed. The actors’ lack of engagement, the unnecessary drags that set in right after the very nice introduction (featured in the demo), and the uninspiring puzzles eventually wore down our patience. In short, if you’re interested in the game, we recommend checking out what those who have a broader perspective on what it has to offer have to say about it.

Yep, another simulator on the menu today, but this one is far more engaging than the previous titles in the genre we’ve come across. Bus Bound features nice graphics with a well-detailed and fairly lively city, and the progression system—which lets you unlock new routes as you work your way through the days—is a great idea. Its only flaw so far is controller feedback that does the bare minimum, with no support for adaptive triggers, for example. The game has been available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since last week.
