God of War II (PS2) Scores One Million Pre-Orders

God of War II is a combat action-adventure game based on Greek mythology. Get reacquainted with the vicious ex-Spartan warrior Kratos who, armed with all-new brutal combat moves and magic, embarks a new epic odyssey. With less than 2 weeks until release, Sony announced that God of War II has already spurred more than 1 million retail orders.

They might as well just release it now as a platinum lol
Oh and Halo sold almost 2 million copies on the FIRST Day of release so it doesnt really matter if its preorder figures didnt reach 1 million if you ask me.

You have to realise most of the PS2 install base is casual gamers who prefer buzz and sports titles to games like GoW. Incidentally, few xbox owners were casual gamers.

Alot of the hardcore user abse who buy theseg ames, may well have had xboxes aswell as PS2's. So it's not as big a difference as you may think.

casual gamers or not that is poor.
I would hardly say a million Proerdered units is a bad Thing Mate. if a game can manages to sell only 500k it's already extremely good news. The original god of war has sold only about 1.7 million copies (with 1.3 million in US) so I think this is a really good sign that the game this time around might break the 2 million mark.

I would say over 50% of PS2 owners actually dont' play their PS2 for months on end.

So we could probably cut that number in half.

But i agree that with the PS2 user base the preorders should be higher to compete with Halo 2 on a level playing field.

YEah. The attach rate of the Halo games is unbeatable that's for sure. Halo 2 sold about 8 million for the 24 million consoles sold worldwide that's a third of the user base ... an Incredible thing that's for sure.

^^ and you would think it would of been more, apart from halo and fable in my eyes there was little other reason to own a xbox, and after current issues, i have little reason to own a 360 :(

It is one of the reasons Halo has such a large install base, percentage wise on xbox, there were simply much fewer games worth owning on the xbox compared to the PS2. Exclusive wise anyway.

I for one think the xbox had a bigger selection of better games, but that is my opinion, The ps2 had final fantasy :D and errr metal gear and......... meh there was something else.. oh right devil may cry and......

anyway ignore me, i am still depressed :(

Hey! Dynasty warriors games in themselves are quite good, it's when you look at the series that they are cack, cause they are so similar.
