Sales aren't really a great indication of overall quality. Popularity and quality are two separate issues.

Gundam in Japan is kinda STAR WARS in states, now you know why. :)
Actually some of these gundam games deserve, like Capcom's arcade series.
(I bet you guys can't understand cuz of its meh graphics and slow paced game play. but they are damn well made and understandable popular as arcade multiplayer.)

Still, what they think of as "quality" over there certainly isn't over here, at least not always.

May be they should b1tch about the horrendous voice acting. If I wanted to hear 8 year old kids yell, and scream I would literally invite my cousins over to do that.

that is my point. They give it good scores simply due to its popularity. Rather it's good or bad they will give it a decent score, simply in order not to upset the fans.

Don't forget they gave Gundam Crossfire straight 8's, which is way more than that shit piece of a Gundam game deserved. That's just one I can remember off the top of my head, they've had others like giving FFXII a perfect? A perfect? FFXII? Pleeeeeease...

Well FF12 sure isn't perfect but it's one of those games that whilst playing you think shit this is awesome, but then later release it wasn't all that good really.

Similar to how i feel about Blue Dragon :P

If you are a fan of a series you will naturally become misty eyed when the newest game comes out.

Much like many people here will with Halo 3, i'm sure many people here have already made up their mind as to what score they would give it LOL.

Now if i was given a copy of Halo 3 to review i doubt the score would much above 6 :P

Well, I obviously can't say, but isn't many people's dismay with FF12 mainly due to disagreeing with the direction the combat in that game took?

I mean even if you're a jRPG fan in the west that figures you've played tons of them, the people over there have lived with roughly the same turn based system for 25 years. FF12 must surely be regarded as quite the revolution, what with it being such a high profile series and all?

I'm sure most japanese critics wouldn't realise what was so special with Halo nor Half Life 2 either.

Just guessing though.. My experience with jRPG is frankly close to zero.

FF12 had a terrible story and thats 90% of what Final Fantasy should be.

Gotta agree, FF12 turned me of big time, the gameplay was OK after a while, but 25 hours into the game the story didn't interest me a single bit, and this is really rare for a Final Fantasy game, You won't really see just me here complain about it, quite many do in fact. I gotta say I never finished the game either, never saw a reason to. And this is the main cause why so many are so pissed at FF12 but then again, the FF creator left Square when it joined with Enix anyway, and his latest game was Blue Dragon :P And shortly after that SquareEnix started to milk the hell out of there games, and drew them all to a point where they ain't even interesting anymore.

In any event some one said only 1-3% of all games get 40/40 by famitsu here before... well thats wrong, there is 6 games totally who ever got that score. everything above 30 by famitsu is a great game to play over 20 is a OK game if you follow there score system fully.

FF12 story wasn't bad but the execution of it all was pretty bad imo

I could go into details but quite frankly I don’t want to waste my time. Anyway, I started to get bored with it rather quickly, (the only character I liked, the one that sparked an actual ‘sense of humanity’ so to speak, was Vossler) … I still continued playing and finished FF12.

I think a nice quality about FF12 that also sort of works against it is that it's all rather believable. There's an authencity to the story, I think, that makes a lot of sense and is interesting on a more political level than what's usual. I find myself sort of at a loss when I try to define good and evil in it, and the characters' motives are usually very ambiguous no matter where they stand. Early on in the game you're confronted with the introduction of Vayne, and there's absolutely nothing about him to suggest he's worthy of the hate the citizens display. I like this quality about it, but certainly, the human intrigue isn't nearly as captivating.

I frankly have no idea how people find Vaan less annoying than Tidus, when he's essentially just bland instead. That said, I like just about everyone else, character wise.. Except similarly bland Ashe.

As far as gameplay goes, apart from some camera issues I think the game is great.

Zooming like a paper plane back onto the topic, I seem to be the last and only one to take Famitsu scores seriously, so for me it's good news that Eternal Sonata got some good ones.

Never bothered to finish FF12, neither did my friend. We both felt that the game was a tad to boring to hold our interest.

Regardless of scores, I'm getting Eternal Sonata. I can only hope that the Asian version has English language support but I'm not optimistic since the Asian release of Culdcept Saga didn't have English text support.

But I'm willing to wait. I'm currently playing Blue Dragon Asian English version and loving it so far!
