"...NO CGI CUTSCENES IN GOW3 !"

As much amazing the latest real-time footage was, we've all had our moments of doubt about it being CG (for me it was when Kratos was falling in the hands of that sepia-coloured mountain titan with dark, weathered nails... and where Zeus did jujitsu on Kratos into the wall). I mean we all agree how un-heard-of it was and amazing out of the sky. Today we get to know that there is absolutely no CGI cutscene in the entire game... meaning!... Sony has finally acquired CG quality ingame rendering capabilities... gotta love it!

and yeah, same voice talent for Gaia and Kratos is returning as previous titles ones!

kinda dissapointed that GOW3 doesnt have CGi cutscenes, granted, the real time visuals make them kind of redundant, but i just like to see that full motion video that typically book-end chapters of the game, it was like a reward.

defo be checking that footage out, while i'm at work at least. when i get home on the 25th it's heavy rain baby.

Yes... in a likely situation, its my excitement that'll drive me in the day, on reaching home I'm sooo gonna love to download the footage, but its not Heavy Rain yet to be in my hands alongside to play with (its due pay-day on March 7th), but rather I'm so in love with playing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories currently on the good ol' PS2, its nostalgia reborn with totally new perspective on SH1(its a remake you know) and an extremely well done at that! Imgine looking out of the car windows taking the back seat, at the fog/snow covered abandoned town... its surreal!!!

Oh, then I'll just take it as your personal opinion heh, what I and world say is that, in-game being compared with pre-rendered CG is a compliment totally not a lot of other games receive and its, well, a global opinion heh :)

PS3: 'It Only Does in-game CG'

I agree with Korn I don't know why CGI cutscenes is dissapearing I remember in Ninja Gaiden Black the cutscenes were fantastic.

ninja gaiden black isnt exactly the best example of it tbh. it was never a game that wowed me personally, either in-game or CGi

some of the best i've seen this gen have been heavenly sword and probably even dante's inferno. i'll miss it, but when a game looks as good as GOW3, you dont really need it, kratos is verging on CG quality modeling and detail anyway, the added motion blur in the new build really makes the game looks amazing.

You are spot-on KORNdog, thats exactly what is happening, remember over a month back, the gow team boasted that Cell has enabled them to do a special kind of HDR which is only possible on the PS3 (Cell being a CPU but having potential of a highly powerful GPU as well, even moreso than a CUDA-Badaboom)...
mostly people didn't believed them for they had e3'09 demo in mind, but now, after this new footage its appearing to be the truth that with some insane lighting and post processing, they have achieved unparalled level of anti-aliasing and picture smoothness, look below:

Here, you can see that even so up-close, there are multiple levels of depth-of-field active even on Kratos' body alone, the golden armor and the shoulder... its an effect I believe achieved through that told HDR mix-up with specialized motion-blur, amazing usage of Cell:

Wow are Thor and Korndog in some sort of Sony Kiss Ass Cult?

I'll be picking up GOW3 can't wait, but that picture looks avg at best and the footage looks great, but is in no way shape or form CG quality.

i thought there was way better CGi back then, GOW1 and 2 for one...or two...lol, final fantasy etc etc. when i think awesome FMV the last thing i think of is ninja gaiden.

as for graphics, there were better looking games too, doom 3, riddick to name 2.

Looks awesome, incredible even, but CG quality? Not quite. I think one reason the CG thing gets thrown around is bacause of the cinematic camera. Metal Gear looked insane in cutscenes, but weak in gameplay. Even using the same models and environments( granted, the animation was waay different). Thats what great camera usage can do for you. GoW 3 looks to pepper little cutscenes all over the place. Not a bad thing, IMO for what it's doing, just makes it look more impressive and cinematic...

the game as a whole doesnt look CGi imo, but kratos does, he doesnt seem to have any visible polys. he's smooth as silk. probably the best character model i've seen in a game. the motion blur does wonders too, really gives it that final bit of polish. i'd definately say it was up there right next to uncharted 2 and killzone 2....easily.

I agree mostly. Just trying to balance the hyperbole ;) Kratos' model is up there at fighting game quaility( over all, not polygon-wise). They did a great job of displaying the detail. I'd say it's there with U2. Killzone didn't impress me( the longer I played, the more I saw through the "distractions". I did love the lighting engine and the players weapon model- easily the best I've ever seen)...
