is Halo 4 running off the Reach engine or will it run on a new engine? What about Halo 1 remake?
I can be wrong, but I believe it has not been confirmed thus far which engine Halo 4 will use; Anniversary on the other hand uses a proprietary engine from Saber Interactive, the guys who developed Timeshift.

I wouldn't say they aren't working on it... From the looks of it, I'd say it's more like "supervising" the final product truth be told, since I assume they've got their hands full between Halo 4 and the expanded media that covers the Halo universe, such as the novels, comics and what not.

ahh ok thnx for the info.

Good thing they are concentrating on Halo 4...wouldn't want them to be bogged down with remakes etc (like Kojima Pro or Team Ico)

No engine is a 100% new and as the own all the Halo code, i would say they gutted the engine and rebuilt it?

Do you have a source for that? No disrespect intended, but doesn't seem very feasible to me to dump in the trash the Reach engine after only one game.

Thats what i mean by Halo code, the Reach engine is owned by 343, but 343 have also done allot of engine work, so i can see the best sections being merged together?.
"343 obviously has partnered closely with Bungie for a while," Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Spencer said. "We had been working with them on Halo: Reach and map packs. We started with the code base from Halo, so it's not something we had to re-roll from the beginning. [Chief Technology Officer] David Wu and the team behind the core engine tech inside of 343 have done a lot of work."

Halo: Reach wowed gamers with an impressive engine, and Halo 4 will continue to play to its strengths added Spencer. "Halo has always been a unique game with huge outdoor environments but also playing indoor environments at the same time. The technology base isn't 100 percent new, but a ton of work has gone into it by 343."

No dev completly re-writes an engine, so this is nothing new really, cant wait to see what they have done with it though.

It does speak well to the future of the Halo franchise that 343 spent so much time working with Bungie before they left. If the knowledge of how to make engaging gameplay sticks with them, then Halo 4 should at least play well. I definitely think 343 has better graphics chops from what I've seen of the Remake/concept art. I'm optimistic. I also think they will be more respectful of Canon (I never understood why Bungie puts out a Halo "Bible", Novels, etc, and then ignores them instead of integrating them)...

I wouldn't say the expanded universe such as novels and comics were ignored... There are some discrepancies to be sure but most of them are "fixable" so to speak.

Our confidence is probably part hope, part having faith lol.
Yeah, true. Halo is too big to just let it fail, I don't think MS is that dumb, it's in that sense that I have faith.

+seeing what they are doing with the remake makes me feel that they don't just do half assed things. They actually try. So that's a good sign.

It can't be any worse than what Bungie did, they gave us the same shit for 10 years and managed to keep it's fanbase enthusiastic about it. Looking forward to 343's take on things

There standing there ground on the Halo movie IP rights gives me faith alone on how adamant they are on keeping this franchise solid.

Well same shit, but some fantastic features, i found it was the features that evolved in this game and not the gameplay itself.

I'm not sure what people would have wanted to be different about the different games in the series...especially with respect to gameplay.

Reach played as perfectly as it could/should have. I find myself incapable of replaying most other FPSes except for, recently, Reach because of the randomness in the gameplay. If that's the resulf of getting the "same shit for 10 years," then I'm thankful they didn't change it.

I hope this game uses the type of motion blur used in Gears 3, it looks incredible! Probably the best motion blur effect since Crysis's DX10 object blur

Shit carries a certain negative connotation to it.

I don't see how it's a valid criticism though(more directed at Grim). Gameplay's good, people like it, change it slightly through addition but keep the core the same. Makes sense to me. What doesn't make sense is acting like Bungie has done some awful thing.

Bungie is simply awful. Period.

Not only they managed to create an intriguing and interesting universe filled with a sense of wonder and awe, but also managed to expand said universe into the realm of novels, comics and so forth. In other words...

I HATE THEM...!!!

Halo 1 still plays like a dream, I'm happy that they've continued to keep the gameplay the same with some expanded mechanics, but the core remaining unchanged. I'd like to see (almost) fully destructible environments at some point, it'd be crazy. :)

That's basically what I meant. Although since CE, the SP campaigns continue to lack depth. I'm truly hoping that we don't run into another Gravemind, I'm truly exhausted with the Flood and I don't want to know another thing about them. I no longer want to to stop them from fucking everything up, I'm also no longer interested in blowing something up to eliminate them. I no longer want to play through levels that look like ass to deal with them either. The H3 Cortana level WAS NOT fun at all.

For Halo 4 I had been holding out hope for a Noble Six like character that would fight along side the Master Chief or maybe even be the Spartan that's sent on a mission to find the Chief and Cortana. But still as I said before, whatever 343 is doing they couldn't do worse than Bungie at this point. Story wise Bungie didn't move the goalposts at all, so 343 really can take the franchise into a much bolder direction if they're willing.

Flood will return i full expect it due to the way the story's are going (book wise) and i would not half expect to see some covenant appear, even if its just bands of rebels hunting down new tech for themselves.
