Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

Master Chief has never encountered the Forerunners before, neither has the Covenant. They aren't just your typical ancient race. They are the creators of the Halos. They wiped out a race that apparently created all races, the Precursors. There are strong hints that even the Precursors aren't entirely extinct, too, which could make things that much more interesting. We aren't dealing with a Halo this time. We are dealing with a shield world. From a fiction standpoint, this makes a world of difference. May not to you, but it will to a lot of people such as myself that care about this kind of stuff. The Master Chief has never had a true rival before. The Arbiter was but a tease in that regard, never the real deal. The Didact is a whole other story. The Didact's motivations and goals are entirely foreign compared to the objectives of the Covenant. Another thing to keep in mind is that humanity is no longer at war with the entity known as the Covenant. We are in entirely new territory in Halo 4 with regards to the Covenant, and they can go in so many directions regarding that angle in this game. What we're dealing with in Halo 4 is but a few factions of the Covenant that still want to believe in the lies they were told. May mean nothing to some, but for people that care about the fiction, it's a pretty big deal.
Something has to happen to Cortana. I doubt she's going to just up and go away or become some permanent enemy to the Chief. She might develop to a degree where she is on par with the best of forerunner AIs if she has any chance whatsoever of surviving and continuing to be of use to the Chief. It's suggested the Librarian is still alive. Could that play into this game? Could the Didact learn this information? There's the still very mysterious Composer that was hinted at like crazy in the 2nd book in the Forerunner trilogy. This is called the Reclaimer trilogy. The precursors seem to have some weird test to see who is worthy of succeeding them, who is worthy of acquiring something they had in their possession, it could be almost anything, don't really know, but the Precursors have some very secret ambitions, and, for whatever reason, those ambitions involve the fall of the forerunner civilization, and the rise of humanity. Could the Didact be trying to prove that the Primordial was wrong about humanity rising above the Forerunners? Is this term Reclaimer more than meets the eye? This game and this trilogy could give that term entirely new meaning.
Man, I can go on and on. This game and this entire trilogy and where the story can go has me hyped. Yea, it doesn't take a genius to understand that the game has to have a basic formula. Most games, especially sequels, tend to have a formula. However, I'll take some more of that awesome and compelling formula again and again.

I'd say far more than 1% of the people buying the game are as interested and excited about the fiction as I am. Heck, most shooters don't have anywhere close to the type of depth, characters and universe that Halo does, so you kinda can't blame people for geeking out just a tad (or a whole lot). I'm also not even anywhere close to the most excitable person there is with regards to Halo's fiction. You have people that write massive articles and maintain entire sites around the Halo fiction. I'm a lightweight by comparison.
Okay, that teaser pushes the excitement up a tad :) Man, the way the Chief just appears is so badass.

Well, a bit less provoking spoken, it is by far the most enjoyable fps to play (imo).
I played all of Halo's campaigns multiple times, while I couldn't bear finishing (e.g.) any CoD I ever played.
If the story turns out to be good in Halo 4, then....good.
If not, then I don't give a toss. At least, from what we have seen so far, it seems that the cut-scenes will be circa 2 leagues above the previous Halos.

I seriously doubt that. You're making people who enjoy the Halo universe (myself included) cringe. Do you write fan fics?
I make you cringe because I love to read the books and enjoy the games and get excited when I talk about them? I like to view all Halo games as a supplement to my enjoyment of the fiction in the books. Reading the books enhance my enjoyment of the Halo games. If it weren't for the books, I probably wouldn't like the Halo games as much as I do. Hell, I'd probably go so far as to say that I maybe wouldn't have bought any of them all the way up to Reach. Halo 4, from that SP demo, would have hooked me regardless, I think. Before I ever played a single Halo game, I read the books. Whereas some people started playing the games first, and then got into the books (if they cared to), it was the complete opposite for me.
And, no, I don't waste my damn time with writing Halo fanfics. Why in the flying you know what would I ever want to do such a useless thing? If it isn't coming officially from the people in charge of the Halo universe, I could care less what some fanfic clowns make up. I'm the same way when it comes to manga. There are people far more hardcore than I am, because there are plenty of people who do write and read Halo fanfic. Then there are people who do both. They spend all kinds of time combing through the timeline for the events associated to the entire universe and obsess over details that even I think are too tiresome to worry about. I merely take a passing interest in the timeline and breakdown of events. And you want to talk about what makes you cringe? I cringe at the thought that anyone wasted their time searching for damn skulls in Halo 3 (huge waste of time). As far I'm concerned, that's infinitely worse than anything I do. I don't care what the justification is, searching every inch of a map for a damn skull is stupid (No offense to people who do it :P)
But to each his own, I won't let your negativity affect my enjoyment of the Halo books/games. Newsflash: Halo 4's story nor the books need to be the best written things ever in order to still be an enjoyable and well told story. Hell, just the E3 SP demo alone is already a sign of the improvements being made to the way the story is told in Halo games. Still a sandbox game, but scripted sequences done right are very effective ways to tell a story. Doubt that "far more than 1%" statement all you want, but if you ever took a look at bungie's forums when they were making the games, or if you take a look at official forum fiction discussions that go into far more detail than I've ever done on here, you wouldn't doubt for a single moment that there are many more people who care about this stuff. Also, no matter how many times I say it, people still seem to doubt it, but more people buy and play Halo for the singleplayer campaign than those who buy it to play multiplayer. Even Frankie himself admitted that more people play SP than those that play MP. Spartan Ops exists for the sole reason to try and get more of those SP gamers on board with the multi.
Yea, let's not ever forget what butters Halo's bread. Put Halo out as an MP only game, and it's a dead on arrival franchise that is nothing close to what it is today. In fact, it's mediocre at best. Cringe away. :)

It just really peeves me how much hype is put into the Halo campaigns (Bungie/343/Microsoft whoever is in charge) and how they make it out to be some Heraculaen feat and an epic endeavor. But when it comes out, it's just shy of 6hrs and the story is about as memorable as anything else.
I read about 3 of the books until Halo Reach. That was the last straw. None of the characters from the books (Mainly Fall of Reach) were even in that. And none of the games have even referenced them. Whatever story you think links them together does not exist.
"The Lore" is laughable. Just because there's a lot of something doesn't make it deep, or good. Look at Star Wars. It's whatever the author puts into it, and first person shooters are a terrible storytelling method. Eric Nylund wrote the best books, and he's a talented author on his own. That's about it.
With Halo 4, this time it wouldn't bother me half as much if they didn't try to CallOfDuty-ify Multiplayer in the process. Halo was ahead of the curve on the Xbox, it didn't need to be brought into "the next generation". Do whatever you want with a campaign I'll only touch once. But don't stick your COD in my game dudebro.

I honestly thought that Donkey Kong with the gravity hammer was like a midboss fight or something.
I played all of them (excluding ODST) more than 3 times.
(Not exactly from start to finish, but its still fun to play a mission of Halo 3 every now and then)
Phaeton, you may not like sp, but I dont get why you are talking it down.
4 hours? Come on, if thats true, which I seriously doubt, then you might stop playing the game on easy.
Everyone who has played a Halo before and does not start a new Halo on at least Heroic does sth. wrong...
