No fall damage at all? Makes sense, I suppose, since I guess they need a way to justify the fact that the Chief, while on the damaged Forward Unto Dawn, basically plunges straight from outer space into Requiem's atmosphere, and then probably at some point has to take a pretty big jump to reach the floor.

He fell to Earth (from space) in the beginning of Halo 3.

Ugh! This is so silly. There's absolutely no story driven reason that they removed fall damage. You could claim that it goes along with the push to make Chief appear stronger. That is all.

They just didn't want fall damage. Let's not write a novel about it.

It's another decision that sorta has me scratching my head. I never felt like fall damage was prohibitive in Halo before. I don't feel like you should be able to jump off of the top of Sword Base without any consequences. I don't think it will ruin the game though (as much as it did Call of Duty, for example, when they removed fall damage from that game) so long as the levels don't make it stand out. I don't want many (any?) vertical levels in this scenario. This is so far from a big deal though. It won't affect single player at all (really, who would even notice?) and there's already plenty of other things making mulitplayer look suspect. Like that stupid (yes, stupid) wall-hack. Blacklight Retribution has the exact same function already and it's terrible. Some people seem to like it though..

Not a story driven reason, a gameplay driven reason. Sounds like they want the Chief to be able to make pretty big jumps in this game with no consequences. There's also a good chance that the descent from Space to the floor of Requiem might be a combination of controllable and scripted events, similar to the SP demo, as opposed to just being a full on cutscene.

I suppose depending on what the newer enemies in this game are capable of in their entirety, you might really want to jump from a pretty high up location to regroup, that sorta thing.

Whats so terrible about the wall hack?
I think that it will be mainly used by unexperienced players who dont know the maps and halo itself.

I mean the radar is good enough to know where to expect the enemies around you, unless they are total campers.
I dont know Blacklight Retribution, but I guess, theres no radar(?)

I really cant tell by now, but I dont think that I will use it all to often. There are more useful abilities...

@ Optimus
About the fall damage, forget the chief. I assure its mainly a mp decision.
Not having to worry about falling and stuff makes it more dynamic.

If they wanted to drop the chief from extreme heights, they'd do it in cut-scenes

If it were just a mini-map, it would be pointless. It gives you precise information about enemy locations in scenarios where the mini-map would still leave you blind.

What abilities do you think are more useful than knowing where your enemies are? If it weren't useful it wouldn't be the most popular hack ever created.

Hey dolphin diving was an art. If it were an armor ability it would just make you impossible to hit for 30 seconds without any effort ;)

I miss the super worm in BF3. It got removed for the same reasons as dolphin diving. But man.. how can anything called the super worm be bad?

Bunnies, worms, dolphins.. games are funny.

Yeah, but we dont know how exactly it works.

From footage they showed so far, I get the impression that the forerunner vision works like some sort of scan.
Meaning that the enemies near you appear earlier than the ones far away.

And maybe the vision is limited to lets say 50-100 metres.
I really cant imagine (or at least I damn sure hope so) that you'll be able to see all enemies in a map sized as big as forge-world when using the vision.
That indeed, would be utter shit.

So far, I trust 343 to not completley unbalance the loadouts.

Story board images for the E3 Halo live action trailer, the last image is very interesting.
This last image was for a concept in which an ancient technology sitting undisturbed for eons is finally discovered by a young native boy.

Invincibility? Seroiusly though, pro vision will be completely useless on most maps. Also, as soon as you hear some using it, you know where they are too. It's a waste of an ability in my opinion especially when you consider the fact that everyone has a radar.

The ability that I have concerns about is the silly jetpacking, it was terribly abused in Reach and it will probably be the same in Halo 4, i just hope the give it some real disadvantages.

You mean something like...uhm.... increased fall damage! ...oh wait?!

I'd love to see overheating or something of that sort.
Too much use sends you flying out of the map like a grunt whose methan-tank took too many bullets.
Or you just blow yourself up.

That young native boy discovering ancient technology looks to me like a Precursor Pillar. Only one thing has been known to be capable of destroying such Precursor technology, and its the Halo rings. Shield Worlds are apparently capable of more precise and targeted destruction in comparison to the Halos, and some are said to be even more powerful than the Halos. I wonder where and when exactly that is. Could the Librarian or someone else maybe have used one of the Forerunner Shield Worlds as a home world for some humans?

The chances of there being native humans on Requiem just rose significantly. :)

Only way that last image makes sense to me with regards to downed Precursor Pillars, is if one of the Shield Worlds, during an ancient firing of the Halos was, for whatever reason, late in applying its defense against a planned, or unplanned, firing of the Halos, and as a result, some damage was caused inside the Shield World, particularly to some of the Precursor Pillars that are suppose to be downright impossible to destroy by any means necessary other than a Halo.

Seeing people further away is less useful. They will have moved by the time you traverse the map anyway, and you'll have another charge at the wall hack by the time you get over there.

Situation awareness is one of the most important things you can have on your side in a first person shooter. Blacklight's wall hack is balanced by merit of every player having instant access to it. It still a gigantic game changer.

And where does this faith in 343 actually come from, if not from what we've seen so far?

Damn, those locations look much better than you would expect for Spartan Ops. And I still remember what Frankie said about there being very little repeated content from Campaign in Spartan Ops. I've already seen a few similar looking environments between campaign and spartan ops so far, but that makes a bit of sense, I guess, since Spartan Ops involves that team of Spartan 4s coming back to Requiem.
