There's plenty of reasons to be apprehensive about where 343 is taking their ideas from.

And here's another thing: I don't even care if Halo 4 is completely its own thing. The issues at the heart of this discussion are not that they are messing with something that I can't let go of. It's that the features they're implementing into this game are a blight on the genre. They are drinking from a tainted well.

So if you take a few steps back and look at Halo without the expectations or the hype, I still think these are terrible, broken ideas.

They are chasing that COD audience for sure.

Bungie introduced COD inspired features such as the Perk-like Armour Abilities, Custom Load-outs, Reticule Bloom, COD Style levelling system and item unlocks. 343 introduces kill streaks for a single game type and suddenly it’s 343 that are chasing after the COD audience? You can’t be serious.? If anything, 343 is trying to accommodate the new fan base that Bungle created with Reach.

Regardless, 343 could add every single COD feature to Halo 4 and it will still play nothing like it. This is Halo, not Battlefield.

Wow forgot how much COD related stuff got added to Reach by Bungie, and it still turned out to be a brilliant game and most def still Halo, theres no reason that Halo 4 won't be the same.

Yea, last book was a really amazing adventure and exploration style of Halo book that was quite different from what we've had before.

The wait for that book is going to be tough, but at least we have something coming on October 2nd, before the release of Halo 4 to hold us over. It the continuation to Glasslands.

Following this explanation of the thought process behind the future of Halo's story, 343 switched focus to the cinematics in Halo 4. The cinematics, after all, have always been the core of the Halo story. This time they will be better than ever thanks to performance capture technology. 343 showed off a "making of" video depicting the motion capture process and showing off the results in the form of a quick snippet of cutscene. Simply put, the new facial animations look incredible, and are vastly more detailed than anything in the past games. As is becoming increasingly popular in the games industry, every cinematic is acted out in real time in real space, and then translated into the game. The cinematics were filmed on the same stage used for Avatar, and using much of the same tech as well. It really shows, especially in the emotional conclusion to the cinematic that 343 showed off.

343 has a huge task ahead of them when it comes to paving the way to Halo's future, but if their Comic Con panel was any indication, they have a great head on their shoulders about it. The new cinematics are looking better than ever, and the future of the novels and comics, although only alluded to, still sounds promising. It seems like Halo fans can look forward to another decade of great stories.

Damn, that does sound pretty intense. Can't wait to get a better quality of it.

They are pretty much dissing and insulting the Chief. This is a first in either game or book, if I'm not mistaken. Would love if it the Chief, in some fashion, maybe not in this game, but in future Halo games, somehow has to get very violent with the UNSC and top ONI brass for particular reasons. That'd be interesting as hell.

Yea, he's right. Pretty spoilerish material there, no doubt. And there are, understandably, a lot of people want as much of the campaign to remain a surprise as humanely possible. I'm in that camp as well, but it's damn tough not to watch these things.

Cortana's mo-cap work was pretty damn good, what little of it we could see. It was so smooth.

Whoa, you mean just terminals as they've always been in previous halo games, where you had to read through them, or do you mean the terminals this time will be in the form of cool video cinematics?

I'm hoping they are in video form, personally :)

Okay, wow, I really never focused on the Halo : CE re-release. If only I knew those video terminal things were in there. Those are cool as hell. I'm excited as hell to learn that these are in Halo 4, too. Just checked out some youtube vids. They even show when Halo array indexes are being given out to the various AI monitors for each installation by the forerunners. Very impressive presentation, from what I can see so far. It's amazing how 343 guilty spark was pretty much going to own the pillar of autumn with the Halo's defenses well before it ever landed on Halo, but stopped because it found that humans were onboard, and obviously they are a preferred species.

Yep, watching them on youtube as we speak. Adds so much to the storytelling. Beyond happy that they'll also be in Halo 4. Can only imagine what they'll reveal.

Ahh, so that's what that keyes thing was all about. I remember seeing that, but thought it was some special extra added cutscene to the game, and nothing more. Didn't know there was a full set of these things thorughout the game.

He mentions wishing he had a single company of Prometheans on his Halo installation right now after the Chief destroys it, and he sounds pretty confident that they would be able to restore order, dealing with both the Chief and the Covenant with their trademark lethality. He then goes on to clearly hint that this would have to mean that the Didact were present as well, and without the Librarian around to control his rage, humanity aka reclaimers might almost prefer to fight the flood instead.

Not bad at all. If the quality of the terminals in Halo 4 are even half as good as the ones in Halo : CE Anniversary, then this will officially be the first time I actually hunt these things down myself on every level, as opposed to just waiting for them to hit the internet so I can read them all.
