but then considering what the gun does, it feels right.
Not really. The sound of capacitors charging is certainly more accurate for "what the gun does."

I actually don't think either of those new sounds are really that hot. Most of the actual guns sound okay though.. so that's just picking at the details. It'll sound fine. Maybe it's hard to be impressed with gun sounds in games that don't start with Battlefield.

I'll definitely agree that no game can touch Battlefield for weapons sounds, I am Really diggin' the new Halo gun sounds. I Love how the Sniper rifle sounds. It's nice that it has a more unique and powerful sound. As for the laser, I think it's good (I wouldn't if the pitch didn't pick up at the end, which it does). Sounds Capacitor-y to me, lol. Just different...

I'd have to agree, it does sound remarkably like something that you'd hear on a powerful plane of some sort, but then all you may need to rationalize it is to assume that these may not be your typical capacitors.

This gun may be running on a series of flux-capacitors, which really could make all the difference.

The weapon would certainly meet this guy's legendary standards.

New Bulletin.
Technically, we're in that most exciting period of the development process - effectively the content is locked and complete, but the final layering of effects, technology, shaders, final performance tuning and as shallow as this sounds, the final graphic appearance.

It's a constant source of delight to me to grab a new build, or walk by an artist's monitor and see that a level or feature I already thought looked spectacular was just a foreshadowing of how impeccable or impressive that environment or object would look in the final pass.

David Ellis, Kevin Grace, Jeremy Patenaude and I often have MP matches with the conceit that we're just staying up to date on progress, but the truth is, we're playing because it is a ridiculous amount of fun. It's insanely addictive and the selection of levels we're going to ship with I think is a testament to building spaces that are flexible enough to be fun for just about anything, but find their sweet spot in the modes for which they were ostensibly created.

Graphically, you've seen some cool stuff, and the tech itself is a very nice hop above prior games in terms of boring fidelity and numbers - something that has happened with every successive Halo game and will in the future. But it follows in the (to me at least) admirable tradition of feeling like the concept art. Bungie always nailed this. You need only look at fan-made screenshots of Halo 3 and Reach to see how close the in-game atmosphere matched that of the stunningly imaginative concept art. We at 343 have some near-legendary concept artists and their dizzying feats of imagination always seem like they'd be impossible to replicate in a real engine environment, and yet there they are. Vistas, ideas, worlds that you can explore, inhabit and affect.

I'd love to tell you that to achieve this fidelity without compromise, and I bet you a hundred dollars one of our engineers could tell me exactly what those compromises are, but I haven't seen them. It's smooth, the draw distances are massive, the effects are stunning and the atmosphere and scale are classic Halo scope. I'm finding MP perf to be buttery smooth, controls responsive and clarity of combat exceptional.

I am biased of course, to the point of shillery, but some of you have known me long enough to know that I tend to err on the side of terror and humility rather than hyperbolae. But I will hype this team, because it's hype worthy. In a crazy compressed timeframe, we've built a team from scratch (with the somewhat bizarre-but-cool advantage that they came from some of the best games in the industry, with new ideas and philosophies - because they loved Halo already), built a game we think is deserving of the Halo legacy, and created a culture built around a simple shared goal - to make an amazing Halo experience worthy of that game's history and achievement.

It won't be perfect, that's impossible. We have too many constituents and variables in our game, our audience and our community for that to ever happen. But I think the vast majority of people who've given us their trust and confidence, no matter how warily or askance, will find something in here that meets or exceeds their expectations.

And for the cynics, an understandable position and one we respect, I think the game may surprise even you guys. Of course time will tell, and player experience, but there have been many moments that deepened my confidence in where we are. Some of those moments were big ticket brute force rubicons, and some small, personal moments.
rest....

It'll soon be time for them to start peppering the place with some heavy duty marketing, which should of course include some awesome SP footage, and I expect late this month (hopefully sooner), but certainly early to mid September, they will need to have this stuff out. Then again, if there's any game that can get away with not putting out much more, it would be this game.

Actually I did not like anything I just read. Not at all...

I always thought that all those armor perks were just trifles, but damn it seems that they impact the gameplay humongously.

And please stop trying to change peoples play-styles with stupid medals!!! I love to drive the warthog, because...erm it is fun, not because of any stupid medals I earn.

I still think that the game will be very good, but right now, I get the impression that 343 tries to dissociate a little to much from previous Halos....

I doubt i'll get to level 50 then max out the added 10 levels to get a perk anyway, but i guess all the hardcore MP players will and they will all each have a pref perk, so for them its all even, i was concerned for casuals like myself jumping into a MP game, with all these top level guys running around, but the devs say it wont happen as there matchmaking makes sure your grouped with relevant skill\level players.

All these additions sound terrible! Previously I said that I was certain this game would be better than Reach, now i'm not so sure. There's far too many potential game breaking ideas in there, starting to get very worried.

Every single perk described seems very subtle and hardly what i'd call game-breaking. If a decent player loses to a lesser player more than 1 out of 10 solely due to these perks, I'd be amazed. 343 said they will explain much better in tonight's bulletin.

So which is it? Is it going to "change multiplayer forever," or is it so subtle that it doesn't matter? The problem with this defense is that it still suggests that it's a bit of bad game design. If they are truly so subtle that they have no real impact on the game, than they are completely pointless. It's either a crutch or it's a gimmick. I can not think of a single example to suggest any other alternative. Perks suck. Killstreaks suck. You can build a rational for anything if you try hard enough.

Look at this one.. it's both a crutch and a gimmick!
The Stalker packs the Nemesis armor mod, a passive skill that causes an icon of the last person that killed you to appear on the HUD. It also tracks enemies who've attacked but not killed you as well, making it useful for both retaliation and revenge.
FWIW.. I don't think they're going to be game breaking at all. In fact, I think it's probably among the least significant of the actual changes to Halo's mechanics. Perks don't have to actually break the game for me to hate them. I just don't care for customization that affects gameplay, period. It's a function built to appeal to a breed of gamer who aren't satisfied with simply playing a versus game online. They need to pad that experience with some half baked RPG to keep those players invested. Those aren't the people I want them designing multiplayer games for.. but unfortunately.. that's sorta the primary audience now.

I sure do miss the days when competition was a motivator.

Perks aren't game breaking in Battlefield 3, or several other games, but they still strikes me as frivolous and unnecessary. It wouldn't be much of an issue if these weren't things Bungie specifically avoided. The lack of original ideas in Halo 4 doesn't mean the game will be bad. This says more to me about 343 than it does about Halo 4 specifically. It says that 343 is no Bungie.

And after they explain it better, I'm sure there will be lots-o-circle jerking 'round the subject. 343, a developer with no real history or identity, can do no wrong. In fact, they're better than bungie!
I still think that the game will be very good, but right now, I get the impression that 343 tries to dissociate a little to much from previous Halos....
Wall hack? Auto turret? Killstreak rewards? What would make you say that? ;) I think it will still be a pretty fun game. Hopefully the campaign is awesome.

In regards to these perks i can see how some MP Halo players will not like these additions but until we hear more and actually play it, i wont throw myself of a cliff anytime soon. I remember the fallout from Bungie adding AA's and such to Reach and people screaming bloody murder, then they played it and said hey its not that bad lol.
