I really can't picture a compelling Halo RPG though to be honest. I mean RPGs are usually epic, but the epic things in Halo are reserved for the main series. Having a "spinoff RPG" that just happens to cover IMMENSE, AWE-INSPIRING DEVELOPMENTS.. I just don't see that happening.

All spinoffs of Halo are most likely gonna be expendible in some way. Didn't play Halo Wars? No worries. What happened in Halo Wars is utterly peripheral to enjoying the main storylines.. An RPG with the same approach would fall flat on its face.

That's why, in general, you can count spinoffs-turned-RPGs on one hand. And have fingers to spare.

Well as long as it is not Bioware, would rather they make Baulders gate 3 for consoles :D enjoyed the first 2 they was ace :D

Yeah not played it yet, by baldurs gate i ment the simple version, i love the pc version (which to my knowledge is what dragon age is like) but i loved the simple console versions as well, like hunter the reckoning, was ace

And on a side note, i would rather they made MORE of these games and not just... say one a year.

40 hour, epic RPG ones where nothing of any real impact is allowed to happen? Yeah, no, I don't reckon you can. I mean to you the Halo stories have been "bonuses" to the mp, so maybe you're not that invested, but if you value canon, then not a whole lot CAN happen in a Halo RPG that is massively important. Keep in mind that the events of the main trilogy spans a wee three months.

I mean sure, they could pull a KOTOR and make it about the Forerunner or something, but then they're even more staggeringly confident in the brand's spanning appeal than even ODST suggests.

What if they made an RPG that takes place during the forming of the Covenant? I wouldn't mind if they did that, and didn't call it Halo at all. It's not about "Halo" but still takes place in a Universe that could very well end up as deep as Star Wars if they dug in to it...

I have to disagree completely. We haven't seen many modern franchises spin off into different genres, but we will. There are plenty of instances in various media where spin off franchises have weaved stories far more compelling than your average RPG, anyway, if not within the videogame industry itself. KOTOR is a fine example of how you can take a franchise that has a deep mythology and run with a new idea.. never mind the fact that there are several Halo novels which could supply necessary plot already. Don't think that Halo Wars is the end of Microsoft's experimentation with the franchise.

Oh no! I don't! Not even remotely. But a Mass Effect-esque Halo RPG? I'll make a bet right now; if that happens I will eat my own shoes.

Of course, the original statement that got this conversation started was something about Bioware and Reach, which I think is an awful idea, because Reach is a bungie FPS and I don't know why you'd want anything else from it!

RPG Halo is full of fail

Maybe because when i play a RPG i want swords and dragons n shit,

I love ME/Fallout and Borderlands as much as the next guy, but i dont see these games as RPGs i see them as TPS/FPS shooters, there shooting is above anything else in the games, the RPG section is just loosely stapled on, you could complete F3 with leveling (same as oblivion) that says it all really... Borderlands, uses the same leveling system as WoW which never makes you feel like your getting stronger just makes you feel like your catching up with the mobs..
As for ME great game, but i bet a lot of people completed that game without even realizing they leveled, thinking it played like GoW

Point is, a TRUE rpg based on the halo universe would probally work thinking about it, but it would never be a proper RPG as they would based it on the likes of ME/F3/BL take all the better elements of those games to make a halo game it would be not half bad, but it still would NOT be a RPG

Dont ask me if any of that makes sence the misses and little girl are screaming down my fucking ear...

RPG are all about a great story and strategic combat you have to think about and in-depth character development, so of course you have to be into that as millions of people are, and if you think ME/Fallout are shooters with rpg elements thrown in , you have no idea what an RPG is and the Halo universe would make for sweet rpg game.
