A fairly reliable source close to Electronic Arts tells us that the sequel (and subsequent iterations) will be available the PlayStation 3 as well as the Xbox 360 and PC. According to our source, EA decided to make the series multiplatform mostly due to the “the economic outlook”.
Well thats it, we won't be getting this game in 2009. We'll have to wait on the PS3 version.

i think a ps3 version seemed pretty obvious, not becasue of the state of the economy, but just because of EA, i cant think of a single EA developed (that includes the devs they own such as criterion etc) that wasnt multiplatform. they've published games for single consoles (strangers wrath, we love katamari) but in terms of in-house i cant name one....

if mass effect remains exclusive i'd honestly be surprised, but stranger things have happened (FF13 on 360) so who knows. mass effect was an amazing game tho and im sure the second will be even better, the more people that can experience such story telling the better.

I think it would cool for the ps3 gamers if it did happen, but i really cant see it myself, i mean they must have started work on part 2 straight away after the success of the first, and at GDC they are going to talk about the way they have "improved the level design process in mass effect 2" which sounds like they will be using the same much modded UE3 engine that they have tuned for the 360, i think it would take a lot of effort and resources to bring it to the ps3 and also what EA would have to consider is would it even be worth it in terms of sales on the ps3?

Not sure what this means fully, but iguess all will be revealed soon enough.
EA has told videogaming247 that any rumours regarding a PS3 port of its hit BioWare space RPG, Mass Effect, are “inaccurate.”

It was expected that the franchise would go multiplatform after EA acquired BioWare from MGS for $860m back in Oct 2007 and rumours of a PlayStation 3 port have persisted ever since.

“The rumour regarding Mass Effect being developed for PS3 is inaccurate,” said the rep. “Hope that helps.”

When we asked whether that means any future games in the franchise would remain solely on 360 the rep replied:

“Impossible for EA to provide comment on this given that no such games have been announced.”

Rumours of a sequel were rife earlier this month when a CMPEvents listing revealed that Corey Andruko (Project Manager, BioWare) and Dusty Everman (Lead Technical Designer, BioWare) will be holding a talk about Mass Effect 2’s level design at GDC 09.

You would be correct. Shepard didn't die, he either became part of the council or headed it, depending on your in-game decision(s). That's what I think happened anyway - it's been ages since I've played.

I'll need to play through it again, because I remember the story confusing me quite a bit. Surely Shepard isn't dead though? He's the main guy dammit!

Maybe they created a Geth machine for the good guys.

I think BioWare is thinking of letting us play as a machine or a human, that would be pretty cool.

Having his armour could mean that he has been captured and presumed killed. Starting out as a prisoner of the Geth (or whoever is controlling the Geth now) would be very cool and it would make a decent training scenario for old and new players.
