Mass Effect 2 Thread

To all Mass Effect fans: I highly recommend that you read Mass Effect Retribution before diving into Mass Effect 3 this fall/winter

Reason why I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 so much was because of Mass Effect Ascension, the book gave so much backstory into Anderson, Kally Sanders, illusive man/cerberus etc

I hope they develop Kally & Anderson's story in Mass Effect 3...

So do I. Anderson's role in ME2 was so minimized it was depressing. Bioware basically locked him on a balcony on the Presidium, didn't even give him a scene in the Citadel Council Chamber. I mean, that's what I was looking forward to seeing anyway, Anderson ON the Council. Not taking a holo-meeting with them like one of their Spectres. The conversation you have with him makes him look like he's going to throw himself off that balcony any minute.

I recommend the books as well because non-readers don't know that the mission that Saren destroyed the EZO refinery during Anderson's Spectre candidacy was also the mission where he saved Kahlee Sanders, so there's ALOT of history between those two and I'd like to see their relationship develop further. Especially since they keep saving each other's lives. lol.

Daft Puck sucks ass....

Well everybody has their own tastes.............but I strongly disagree with this. Yes I know they sample from everyone and some of their tracks are made entirely of samples, but they do good things with what they use.

are the books self contained stories? or are they litterally just bridges between the games? basically, would someone who hasnt played the games enjoy the books as a stand alone story?

Sure. But the games are great for putting everything in the novels into context. But they aren't just background stories, they have their own plots that are quite capable of holding your attention.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Jack Wall finally made a statement to his fans-

"Dear People Who Love Mass Effect -

Working on the Mass Effect series was epic. It was mind-bending, soul-coughing, astral-plane traveling delicious loveliness - all the way. The games themselves are works of art. I wouldn't change one note of it that myself, Sam, David, Richard or Jimmy wrote. As you may have noticed by now, I am not returning to score the final game. The reasons are much too complicated to explain here, but suffice to say that the people at BioWare and I are still friends and we all really still like each other a lot. More importantly, the score for ME3 will be great and even more important than that, the game will liikely be (being BioWare and all) super duper fantastic.
Clint Mansell is cool. Enjoy.
Oh and thanks to everyone for the kind words here and over the years. For those of you who didn't say nice things, that's cool too. I'm still searching for the perfect chord. If you guys see it laying around, let me know, ok?

Isn't that just fuckin sad? The man who gave Mass Effect it's musical voice isn't going to be allowed to finish what he started. All I can say is that Mansell better deliver or he's going to be hearing about it for along time from ME fans.

I dont care if he can do crazy good dramatic scores, thats not what ME music was about.

Retro sci-fi music from 80s style is what it was meant to have, even Deus Ex Human Revolution is doing that.

I am not familiar with his work...but honestly I find most of the movie musicians to be overhyped. I'd rather listen to Jesper Kydd, Rom'di Prismo, Saksi Kaskas or the guy who wrote the music for ME1&2.

I kinda prefer the smaller stories like Lair of the Shadow Broker to the sweeping and.. sorta generic to be quite honest.. storylines of the "main games".

I get that the story has to go somewhere, but I'm sorta bummed that they can't just let the world exist and populate it with characters and sub stories indefinitely. I would keep returning to it as long as the scenarios are as compelling as Shadow Broker's was.

I was thinking the same thing last year. I wonder why the main story arc with the Reapers couldn't be stretched out a bit longer. The Reapers are in dark space traveling towards the galaxy, that journey should be significant without the aid of the citadel mass relay.

"You have failed! We will find another way!"

Shepard or even future Spectres could continue to thwart the Reapers' efforts towards finding a quick way into the galaxy, but if ME3 is the last chapter then I suspect that Bioware will have some miracle solution to bring the Reapers to an end. It shouldn't be this way however.

Also, I dread that Bioware may continue to diminish role playing elements for the sake of attracting shooter fans.
