If all your squad was loyal, then all would survive, all mine were loyal except Jack and she died in the last mission, i was a bit pissed as it was one little conversation choice that i made when she was fighting with Miranda, that fucked it up and i could never regain her trust again after that!, bit shitty as i felt really bad when i saw her laying dead on the ground, will rectify in my next play through for sure.

This isn't the case, 2 loyal members died on the last mission for me. I think its purely based on your choices of who does what, basically who's the best suited for each mission.

That's the whole point. Only Samara and Jack are suitable, the game wanted you to find that out.

grrr shit, I wanted to write that i sent Samara, and not Miranda like I wrote.Samara takes us through the swarm of thingies unharmed, altought towards the end part I thought she was not going to make it, but she did and didn't died, and then after I kill the humanlike reaper, there's the big explosion and Miranda and Garrus that were with me were burried under some rubble, i help garrus stand up (mind you, i didn't do a single mission with him, always jack and miranda, only took garrus because jack was heading the other team) and he's fine. And Miranda dead, just like that. Doesn't make much sense sorry. Garrus was a character I completely ignored during the game, and nothing happened to him. That's the reason of this rant. Altough they try to make a big dieal of how your relationships matter for the outcome, to me it all feels too random and unclear. The fact that people here don't seem to agree reinforces this feeling.

That's what i said also, loyalty and smart choices at the end determine who survives, i lost Jack only because she was not Fully loyal to me, all others survived because they were and because i chose the strongest candidates for each important task at the end.

Legion - Tunnels (best hacker)

Samara - Biotoc Barrier

Miranda - Lead second suqad

Chose Zaeed to lead the rescued crew back to the ship, all survived going back alone, cant remember the other?

What made you choose Jack to lead the second team she had no experience in commanding teams/squads?, Miranda was perfect for that role.

I can share my suicide run strategies and they work all the time

Scenario One-

Legion in the vents
Jacob leads the Fireteam
Jacob also escorts the survivors back to the Normandy
Jack does the barrier
Miranda leads the 2nd squad

Scenario Two-

Tali in the vents
Garrus leads the Fireteam
Grunt escorts the survivors back to the Normandy
Jack does the barrier
Miranda leads the 2nd squad

NEVER team up with Tali and Samara, Tali will die :(
NEVER team up with Thane and Legion, Legion will die
ALWAYS let Miranda lead the 2nd squad, NEVER give her the responsibility of leading the Fireteam
After Legion's loyalty quest ALWAYS go immediately into the Omega 4 Relay to save the Normandy crew
When you save Dr Chakwas, ALWAYS tell her that you came for her and the crew. If you respond negatively it seems to trigger nasty scenarios.

Ok, you're right, that does seem random. I heard when you take Mordin with you on the boss encounter he has a random chance of dying, I had him with me but he didn't.

Finally finished my Mass Effect 1 playthroughs and imported my save. Could only get my Vanguard to level 59 but at least it is done and all is right in the world i.e. Ashley is deaded and Udina was told to do one

Doing everything meant I was 100% renegade well before the end, I'm like 150% renegade!

There was a video that somebody was playing at work and it was hilarious. Shepard was scanning a planet and launching probes when a Batarian pops up on the screen complaining, "Hey Normandy, hey Normandy, you're killin' us down here!" LMAO!

There's a rap video out there too, has a ridiculously funny spin on the stupidity of scanning.

Bah, the scanning isn't nearly as bad as turning items into Omni-gel and the driving sequences and the recycled dungeons. I'll take some planet scanning any day.
