War of the Worlds was a horrible film. Only good part was the arrival scene, and that didn't make a lick of fucking sense.

Signs is pretty freaky on the first watch. Hell, it's still pretty creepy. I don't watch that film anymore.
Exactly my toughts, this movie from start to finish was scary.

Also, this is a bit offtopic but if you guys haven't watched it already, watch a documentary called, "Earth from Space" by the Discovery Channel. It is so fucking beautiful (especially if you love biology & nature), I had tears in my eyes as I was watching it and my mind was being blown simultaneously. Excellent doc!

It has so much information on the various systems in place on Earth that can only been seen from Space, trust me, your mind will be blown at least once!

New Spidey film is the best spidey so far, imo. Avengers was great too but... c'mon, Dark Knight rises is going to be better than both.

Reminds me - full soundtrack. 51 minutes. Awesome.

LOL, new spidey looks like shit. My friend who has pretty much the same taste as me said it was crap so i take that in high consideration.

Interms of superhero movies, so far, nothing is better than The Avengers, Dark Knight Rises might be better or as good as Avengers. I am guessing on "as good".

You can't really compare them, they're two completely different styles and takes on super hero films

Exactly. In fact, in many ways Nolan's Batman series doesn't even into the superhero genre.

There are a lot of super hero stories that are more real and gritty like Nolan's story. Doesn't make it not a superhero movie

Like what? Nolan's Batman is as much a human story as it is a superhero one. That's in the classic sense, of course - the genre is a lot different compared to what it used to be.

Kick Ass and Watchmen are two stories that come to my mind pretty quick

Really? Kick Ass is pretty much a satire of superhero, and Watchmen is an incredibly stylized version of it. I think TDK is much more grounded.

Also, you just reminded me that Watchmen has possibly my favourite ever intro/credits to a movie.

They're both rooted in a more real way similar to Nolan's Batman. Watchmen is grounded in a slightly altered real history and tell a story of human beings who push themselves to super hero levels in the way Bale's character does (with the obvious exception of Manhattan). Same with the characters in Kick Ass. No characters in Kick Ass come across as inhuman or beyond the realms of reality.
Both are also gritty, real world takes on corrupt society.

Also yeah that intro is brilliant!

I'd also wager that Nolan's Batman takes quite a bit from other storylines of Batman like The Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke, and The Long Halloween.
There have been a bunch of brutal story-lines of Batman that he pulls from.

I was kinda just talking about the overall tone and presentation, but I see your point.

I really should get into comics. I'm always getting told how there's some really great ones out there.

You should, there are a shit ton to wade through and so many iterations of popular titles like X-Men and Batman.

Your best bet is to just look for what you're familiar with first like Watchmen. Also a few of the new Batman series running right now are getting lots of praise.

IGN runs a good weekly review of comics getting released too.

Kick Ass was so over the top. The guy is using a Jet pack towards the end. A jet pack. A FUCKING JET PACK!

And Hit Girl totally destroyed any expectations of realism well before that scene. 9yr old girls cannot beat up 6'5" men.
