Well this was unexpected, turns out you can complete it with flying colours by just mashing buttons. Got some wild combos and mostly 100% on every note. You need to hold the long ones though of course, but overall the penalty for missing things seems pretty damn lax. :)

This misses the whole point with a rythm game though obviously, but it's still bizarre that it works.
Works, but what grade did you get on the song? Button mashing works to an extent, but it's sorta pointless/unrewarding regardless.

I read up on DJ Max 2 btw--there is still a 4Button and 6Button mode. I think they may have done away with 8Button mode, though I'm not sure. 5Button mode is the new "normal" mode, though I may just skip it all together.

Grift you gotta try this "5" button mode, it is just totally retarded, shame because all i have is the demo and i can see its addictiveness but.... damn, did they beta test the 5 button ?

I've at least had a chance to see what 5Button mode looks like, and it is sorta bizzare. I don't have much of a problem with using two buttons, since you could just use one of those buttons on most occasions.

It gets confusing when there are chords that include the middle button mostly, I figure. Because if there is a chord that includes the middle and the far right, or the middle and the far left, you no longer have an option of what to press..you either need to hit square and left or right and circle..and that is a little confusing.

I might just skip 5Button mode all together though..I'm going to keep playing part one for now until I master 4button, and then move straight to 6Button I think. We'll see how I feel about 5Button mode when I get DJ Max 2 (which hopefully will be w/i the next week--though I don't plan on playing it much 'til I'm mostly done with DJ Max 1) but I have a feeling I may avoid it mostly.

There is still PLENTY of content to mess around with regardless.

The most confusing is when they expect you to press.. say.. triangle and the middle button at the same time and you're used to using square for middle.. Suddenly you have to press right on the dpad for middle in order to do both simultaniously.

I can usually manage that, but after that my brain is all jumbled and everything goes to shit.

I haven't played Syphon Filter, but I'm really enjoying Killzone. I really like the fact that they didn't go and try to make themselves a fast paced first person game on the PSP (as others have, and mostly failed) but stuck to a perspective and control scheme that makes good use of the controllers limitations.

So I guess that's one vote for Killzone, though I've heard some pretty good things about Syphon Filter too. Assuming you've played both demos..right?

Yeah I played both demos, and while I immediately thought SF's controls were clunkier I'm sure they get better with more playtime. That game has gotten some really good scores all around, but it also came out pretty early, effectively having a lower bar to climb over I wager.

That said, I've always felt a bit drawn to those games but never really played one properly.

Killzone felt good right away with the demo, and it looks great too. I'm a closet Killzone fan, even of the PS2 incarnation despite shoddy AI, glitches and framerate issues, so there's that to consider aswell.

Hrmm.. Gotta think about this some more.

I have to give props to QuickJump. It may not be the most reliable source of general gaming information on the interweb, but it's the best source of PSP downloads, especially if you're into the homebrewer scene.

Check it out: http://pspupdates.qj.net

Oh, and more demo downloads are available here:
http://dl.qj.net/Game-Demos-PSP-/catid/446

Also, 3.30 has been decrypted, so hopefully 3.30 OE is on the way.
WARNING: Too good to be true report coming right up. Now, as much as we ourselves are almost jumping for joy, we also can't help but remain a tiny, little bit skeptical about it all. After all, it's April Fool's and we all know that the internet gets flooded with jokes, gags and hoaxes at this time of the year. Anyway, we may all want to just take this with a grain of salt for now, until DAX himself lets everyone know that he is indeed working his magic again on FW 3.30, or until 3.30 O-E actually shows up. However, we ARE crossing our fingers... on with the report!
Fingers crossed.

Enjoy.

The RPG releases on the PSP have been pretty slow, but they're starting to really shape up. In just a couple of weeks we get the Valhalla Knights, which has at least enough potential to hold people over for the stuff like Crisis Core. Between Jeanne D'Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Disgaea, we're getting an overload of tactics games. That's not a bad thing though, strat RGP's are my favorite jRPG's and they all seem to be turnout out quite well.

Disgaea is pretty interesting, and I never did play the PS2 version (my roommate owns it, but I never got around to it) so I'm looking forward to taking this one on the go. Sure, it looks mostly like a straight up port of the PS2 game, but there's new content and ad-hoc multiplayer. I passed up on the Nippon Ichi strategy goodness on PS2, so I'll be damned if I'm going to miss out on this one a second time. This version is due out sometime this summer.

Anyway, Gamespot has a new preview with the NA version of the game...

Posted by Gamespot
Disgaea PSP has been out in Japan for quite some time now, but there's been little information on if, and when, the fantasy turn-based strategy game would be hitting North American stores. Prinny fans will be pleased to know that the game is coming out this summer, and their patience is being rewarded with a plethora of new content that is exclusive to the North American version of the game, including ad hoc multiplayer and a new story arc.

Since I'm on the strategy kick, box art for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lions War..

The in-game graphics in FFT for PSP are a bit disappointing imo, but the new cinemas are pretty beautiful..and online multiplayer? Count me in. FFT is a great game regardless -- and it sure does sound like this will be the definitive edition.
* cel-shaded cutscenes
* new job classes Onion Knight and Dark Knight from FFIII
* new character Balthier from FFXII (PS2)
* Versus and Co-op mode
So the gameplay may look the same, but there's some more content here (sorta like Disgaea, but maybe even better, I'm pretty sure the online mode supports infrastructure mode). The DS is getting FFTA2, so everyone is feel'n the tactics love.

Not too sure about when we could be seeing an English language version of this, but the Japanese version ships this May.

I don't think so, it's a port of Disgaea with the benefit of added features/story..so I don't think you'll be missing anything. If anything, it's a good place to start, since the English version (at least around here) for PS2 is becoming an increasingly difficult find.

One more upcoming NIS release I wanted to mention before I stopped spamming my own thread for the night: Dragoneer's Aria. I don't know much about this one, and so far the only imagery available is artwork (oh -- there's a trailer too), but I figured this thread needed as much help with the RPG love as humanly possible..

So a couple of artwork's from the NIS/Hitmaker release, Dragoneer's Aria:

The more the merrier, so they say. These guys don't have much of a history and this will actually be going up against some tough competition, so who knows if it will turn out any good..but this is one genre that I don't think PSP fans will mind seeing a few extra releases in regardless. For what it's worth the trailer isn't as interesting as the art -- so who knows about this one.
Thanks to the role-playing gurus at Nippon Ichi, you'll soon have another way to kill a lot of time while you're on the go. Dragoneer's Aria is an upcoming role-playing game for the PlayStation Portable, and as the title suggests, the game revolves around dragons. Not much has been shown of the game just yet, but we watched the first trailer to get an idea of what to expect from this high-flying fantasy adventure.
Gamespot has an early preview up now

Just checked it, looks good.

Aedis Eclipse ~Generation of Chaos is also a nice title, the graphics aren't mindblowing, but it's a big game that should keep you busy for a while.

Noses are overrated
Maybe it's cause there's no relation of smell in the game, the chars speak, so they need mouths, thye need ears to hear each other, and eyes to see, but do they ever smell anything in the game? PLAY THE GAME TO FIND OUT!

/back of box material

I thought you meant FFT fans had no noses, so they couldn't tell that the game stunk. Glad that got cleared up. But yea, I think noses would help them. I mean, I've had mine for months and its helped me a lot.
