Same exact build from E3, so no surprises there. At Gamescon they said they'll focus more on the combat side of things.

Neat rewind theatre for Dead Rising 3. There is a bit of screen tearing, but when they pause it, it really shows detail that has been difficult to see in the videos released. The localised damage and amount of stuff going is pretty darn impressive. It's neat to see multiple levels of damage as at one point he hits a zombie in the head 3 times and it breaks down accordingly. Cool stuff...

Xbox One records last 5mins of SP gameplay, only 30 seconds of an online game. That's kind of a buzzkill about the 30 seconds limit. I hope that means Theater mode is returning for Halo 5...

Wait.. so.. if something cool happens in a MP game (in a 30 second window) you have to IMMEDIATELY stop playing (even if you don't have to exit, this is multiplayer, dammit!) and save the clip?

That sounds pretty useless.

Don't you just shout something at Kinect and it stores the last 30 seconds without interrupting the game. Whereas if you want to store the last 5minutes, you have to do it manually. Doesn't seem long enough to capture much though, certainly not full MP matches. I would assume MS could quite easily extend that record time though, what would be stopping them?

Ah.. well that's not too bad. Semi-useful. 30 seconds is still pretty brief, but that's an okay solution.

I'm confused why they couldn't have a solution like the PS4 which just records "everything". No differentiation between MP/SP. Probably has something to do with the OS RAM. Can't afford to dedicate too much resources to just containing that much video. But for a system that fancies itself a TV DVR replacement that's poor form.

It seems more geared toward "hey! this crazy shit happened! check it out!" 30 seconds is more than enough for that sort of thing. Throw it up so friends can share that moment. Little snippets of gameplay, and 30 seconds isn't all that short when you just want to share that one thing. The last thing we need is for Youtube to be choked with endless 15 minute "look how awesome I am" videos (shivers). Unless you want to show people your whole approach to a situation or something, it sounds fine for me :)

Youtube isn't choked with 15 min of "look how awesome I am" videos?

No one watches 30 sec clips on Youtube, the competition is so strong that you actually need good content (be it editing/commentating skills and/or gameplay) to actually fetch an audience. This feature is practically useless for the target demographic that is focused on building a community. 30 sec clips is not where the audience (money) is at and what's the point of a feature if it can't generate utility for this purpose? Unless the whole point of it is sharing clips with your friends... which is fine but it obviously has much less value for for most gaming communities.

MS realized that they had to follow up on the PS4 (killer)feature of being able to stream and record games. But coming as an afterthought they obviously couldn't make it full blown. Didn't the NSA tell them they'd loose on that front? ;)

I'm speaking personally, of course :P I doubt I'd use it very often. Still, I hope you can do voice overs for the longer vids otherwise it would be pretty limited.

I take offense to your tone sir, I don't feel the need to rationalize anything. I'm just pointing out possibilities for their decision to go with the video blurb route, and how I relate to it. I'm not going out of my way to find negatives either.

You don't really have to go out of your way to find the negatives in the 30 second restriction. You went out of your way to try to make it into something that could be positive with the youtube comment.

I don't mean to be offensive, but give me a break. 30 seconds doesn't really give you a lot to play with.

That's because I think it IS positive and worth pointing out because god knows well get the negatives.

anyway, I wonder how many 30 second clips you can save and if you can edit them together before sending the out. That would make some sense. That way you are only recording the moments you wanted. Id like to see more about how each console will handle the editing...

Uh.. so you could string them together into youtube skill videos that you were bitching about? And still lack the ability to record skill and analysis type stuff, or full rounds, etc. Nice. This all makes so much sense now ;)

Ok, OK, I see your point. I'm still thinking of the long videos of basically nothing that already exist on youtube. Image when the learning barrier for getting stuff online is gone:S

You could use twitch for the full match stuff, I guess, but the only time I've enjoyed skill vis is when they are hyper edited to music.

When its all said and done, both companies need to utilize some more events and detail this stuff. There is so much we don't know and launch I isn't far off...
