Well after reading that it sound like Remedy pitched the concept to both Microsoft and Sony, but it was the Xbox Group that followed it up and came back with dedicated servers for them. And I highly doubt Microsoft made Remedy come out of pocket for any of it, I don't see them talking about any personal cost to themselves in that article. They even go as far to suggest that Sony doesn't offer the same cloud service as Microsoft.
It says it directly, here, in plain English. There is no other interpretation.
Most importantly to us, Microsoft priced it so that it’s far more affordable than other hosting options.

You won't find any claims to suggest otherwise written in such specific language. The media (and desperate fanboys) turned, "available to all developers" into "a free pot for all developers to reach into." It's not that. At all. It's a powerful tool that is competitively priced with similar options. It's still a cool platform. But this idea of standardized dedicated servers is simple false. Period. Fin.

You can't even show me WHERE they mentioned HOW much it cost them and you want to tell me how NOT FREE it is? No the only thing you did was take what was a rather flattering piece written BY Respawn and tried your negative best to spin it into something ant-Microsoft. As usual.

What? Show me where someone says it's actually free. Saying that it's priced aggressively implies that there is a price. That's as straight forward as you're likely to get.

Okay, now I see where we're missing each other.

Microsoft paid $50 Million for exclusivity to Titan Fall, I'm finding it hard to imagine that they didn't provide free servers for Respawn as an added incentive. I know Azure Clouds aren't free, this wasn't me making shit up. This was me speaking specifically about Titan Fall. EA won't even be running the game off their servers and it's their published title. So Microsoft is going to pocket a fee for their servers and Respawn provides them with an exclusive? That doesn't sound right.

Well I'm sure it's all embedded into the licensing deal. The kickback they get for the exclusivity contract may just be a separate thing. Their own language implies a cost.

It's also not entirely exclusive. There are Azure services for Windows.

And you may not be perpetuating it, but there's definitely a perception that Azure is free and that dedicated servers are standard. We don't actually know that Call of Duty Ghosts does not have dedicated servers on the PS4. I sorta hate that MLG goes to consoles at all anyway. Call of Duty had a good competition scene once upon a time. But the lack of LAN support for modern shooters, coupled with the lack of real competition modes and all of this "everyone wins!" design.. makes the whole thing a little silly.

But competition goes where the money is too.

900p (1600 x 900) upscaled to 1080p (1920 x 1080).

Confirmed now is Forza 5 at 1080p/60fps, Ryse at 900p/30fps, Killer Instinct at 720p/60fps and unconfirmed is Dead Rising [3] supposedly having a dynamic resolution at 30fps.

How many times have we heard that Ryse was confirmed to be 1080p on forums now? I guess confirmed on forums means... well... not true ;)

Oh... Microsoft has confirmed it to be 1080p several times. I guess we know that means... not much.

I'm not surprised by Dead Rising 3's dynamic resolution. Hopefully it can hold a framerate.

Their "eight core" CPU's aren't really eight core CPU's and they're frequently outperformed by quad core Intel CPU's.

"Sucks" may be harsh. They still make some good stuff on the low end of the price/power spectrum. But they haven't really been on the same page as Intel for a bunch of years now.

I'd be more likely to pick them on the GPU side, but nvidia has been sticking it to them pretty consistently too.

What are you planning on playing with this thing? Crysis 3 in 8000p and then downsampled?

I guess the days of playing games smooth with my GTX670 are gone soon. But it'll have to suffice for GTA.

GTX 670 is fine. It's better than next-gen fine even. I'd worry more about optimization with GTA.

One 760 is fine too for 1080p/60fps. I just wanted two. You get Titan levels of GPU performance for a fraction of the cost.

c'mon - you'll never squeeze 8-10 yrs. out of your 760's for double the amount of money compared to XO ... think about it :D

And what do you mean by wasting? I am buying consoles for the games [exclusives], not for the technology. Otherwise I would remain PC-only
