They're both being technical in what their saying, but they're hardly objective are they. It would have helped though if they hadn't halved the poly count and dropped the resolution.

I'm more disappointed by how similar to FM4 and GT5 the game looks when in chase cam. Also, it seems to have adopted the twitchy ass steering wheel from driveclub. Seriously, it looks erratic as hell. They both need to fix that shit.

Weren't you the one claiming next gen consoles would be more then capable of blowing our minds with or without secret sauce?...devs are already making compromises and sacrifices and these machines aren't even out yet.

They're still nailing a pretty good IQ @ 900p. I agree it's all a little underwhelming but this really comes down to optimization and getting the actual games out.

I do think that moving beyond 720p is more or less a must this generation. Image quality must improve. This "coded to the metal" machine (apparently filled with a secret 280X now ;)) is running BF4 at 720p while PC's will be pushing it beyond 1080p. The next round of GPU's will drive content like that up to 4K with relative ease. I do think it's important that these machines aren't dated before they're even out.

Well, looks like Crytek's version of worse = better looking game. It says a lot that you're still making an issue out of this when there's a now superior looking game staring you right in the face. Remember what you said about that blurry looking version being the new one? Well, Cervat yerli posted a direct feed on his official twitter. It's not as blurry when it isn't a stream of a powerpoint presentation, is it?

Visual downgrades. You can see a poly decrease? Really, can you? Please point it out to me if you can. How about a resolution decrease? Ryse's resolution was never officially known in the first place until Greenberg's tweet. And according to the director's statement, it seems this was always the game's native resolution.

I want to seriously hear you say that plastic looking armor from the previous version of the game looks better than the newer one. The clear edge goes to the newer version. The newer version of the game has a better sense of depth, better shading, it's much better modeled. If the game was really once 1080p, and that older screenshot is what the game looked like when it was 1080p, I take the new version every single time. They decreased the poly count on the main character to 85k, not on anything else. I don't think you realize how high 85K is. All the game's cutscene models are also the same as the gameplay models.

And with regards to blowing our minds.



This a launch game, and easily one of the most graphically incredible looking console titles so far. Who said sacrifices would never be made? There are sacrifices in all aspects of game development. Unlimited power exists nowhere, not even on the PS4. Some kind of compromise has to be made somewhere, even if devs never tell you what those are outright. You give devs power, they are going to find a way to use as much of it as they can. And for the record, do you remember what resolution I said I preferred games to target on the new consoles? I said I preferred 720p so devs could focus more on raw graphical detail and effects. 900p is higher than that. So this particular game may not be the best example to try and make a point with. Does Quantum Break not look amazing? Look at Infamous or Killzone. Yea, I feel what we're already seeing so early in the new gen, on both consoles, does more to support what I said than it does the opposite. Have you played GTA5 on the 360 or PS3 yet? Have you seen what Rockstar is doing on these older systems? Have you seen that water, the waves? I'm stunned it looks that good on the 360 and PS3. Even the explosions and accompanying physics are better than what I would've expected, although Half Life 2 was already doing insane things with physics for much sooner than even that, but you get the point. :)

It's like the people claiming crysis 2 was the best visuals ever on current gen consoles, despite it running like shit and being sub HD. You simply can't be 'prettiest next gen game' when you're hitting non of the next gen standards. Even the animations are garbage. Aside from shaders, what exactly have they gained from being sub HD and running at 30fps (and reducing character models)

In fact, they look good when the player isn't rushing through or mashing away. However, if you mash, suddenly it looks very strange, and on top of that if you perform a counter, that, too, can cancel out whatever animation the main character is in the process of performing, no matter how far into that animation the character happens to be. So the issue at hand is not the animations themselves. Those are fine. The problem is Crytek making it possible for players to mash away as quickly as they desire, which can, admittedly, look a bit silly. There's plenty of footage of the animations looking quite a bit better when people actually take their time. Play with no skill or no flow to your attacks, and the animations don't get a chance to complete, and thus it looks like crap. Anybody actually interested in this game would have seen quite clearly that this is what's going on.

Now it's obvious you have no interest in the game or even the console for that matter, so there's very little about the xbox one in general that I expect to see you approach with anything less than intellectual dishonesty and willful ignorance. Ryse is a 'sub HD' game now, is it? 900p and you call it sub HD?

And am I seriously hearing about Ryse looking like a bad game from two people who think Deep Down looks amazing? Or is it just one of you? Most likely Korn. :)

It's been really something watching the Ryse debate all over the place. What's really funny about this whole controversy over resolutions is that nobody knew it was less than 1080p until Greenberg actually mentioned it in his tweet. Because 900p and 1080p share the same aspect ratio, it would have gone largely unnoticed. So while the game looks like it's going to make it through it's technical hurdles, there's still the game itself that's waiting to be played and reviewed.

Who thinks deep down looks amazing? that game looks INCREDIBLY bad. Even RYSE: son of shit, looks better than that game.

1a would be T10 could start by throwing out their current particle system and engineer a completely new on that doesn't make the world look sterile. 1b would be T10 needs to strip the game of the lighting engine, re-evaluate the options on the market, and implement something that looks more gritty and importantly players well with time of day as well as weather systems. And for giggles the car count should be much higher.

And that is just for starters.

Why are you doubtful? I'm pretty sure my GTX760 SLI could power a lot of today's games at 4K (especially at 30 fps) and I'm fully expecting Maxwell to trounce the 700 series.. which is a fair bit better than an Xbox already.

And then you have Mantle. The R290X is apparently already driving BF4 past 3K on a single chip. While the Xbox is @ 720p.

I'd say current PC's are already approaching "4K" ready status. Next year? Easy.
