I actually dont care much about any of these rumours until I see something concrete. Some of this stuff seems to float the boat for so many of you so Enjoy but honestly there is no need for some of the trolling in here...

Part of me wonders if it's all just a tactic to keep people talking about the new Xbox over PS4.
It's certainly brilliant if they are.
So many times rumors of no reusable games or any number of things that would obviously be offensive have surfaced. Only in the end they never materialize

Wouldn't the guy who leaked all this shit have been fired by now? If he hasn't I'd say this is just a way to get people riled up and paying close attention to what Microsoft is even doing.

I highly doubt it. And if you're talking about Adam Orth, I really don't think they should fire him. He was responding to leaks, inappropriately, but for his sake and his families I hope he gets a slap on the wrist. I think we're going to see a lot of this stuff come true. I'm really curious, but I would have been without all of the negative rumors. Always connected, subsidized, and integrated into a set-top-box. Could be? Who knows.

I want to see Microsoft succeed too, but not at what I view as the expense of the consumer. Which makes this a bit hard to swallow. Because Ballmer a win.

One thing's for certain, this discussion has literally eaten up a ton of the next gen conversation most everywhere. However, there are better ways to go about doing it if this was truly something they intended. I feel you turn the tables around, Microsoft announcing before the PS4, and we would have the same anticipation and heated discussions over what the PS4 might be doing. Even if not the same drama or controversy that you're getting from the new Xbox, everybody always wants to know what the other guy is doing. What could they truly be up to that they would push back their event an entire month?

If Microsoft are confident in their direction or know that certain things are being taken out of context, then even potentially negative news is something they might welcome, as it means people are still talking about them and they have a chance to earn themselves some completely unwarranted, in my view, positive praise simply for showing up and not doing some of the things they are rumored to be doing, which ironically would have been an opportunity created entirely by this shitstorm. Specs talk and the fact that the PS4 is stronger is not as hot a discussion anymore. If it's somehow all true, then maybe they feel like they've softened the blow because people are now more or less conditioned to expect the news, and then from there they can use their presentation to sell people on their features, showing some games, and perhaps making a huge announcement or two.

I'm sure turning a profit is important to MS, but I don't think they are willing to do so at the expense of the strength and popularity of the xbox brand, the most successful consumer device they've ever produced.

It just seems like a smart marketing strategy to shift focus from the PS4 to me.

No one cares about good news because everyone prefers to bitch and criticize. Especially when it comes to games.
Look how few people even talk about PS4 anymore.

I think they're willing to momentarily hurt their brand, if they're even doing that, to keep all the attention on them.

I have mountains of respect for Steve Ballmer. And I admire his passion for Microsoft. You would be hard pressed to find someone who cares more about that company.

But he came in when Apple and Google were about to explode. And they've been getting beat up a bit for most of his tenure. He needs a win.

Indeed, he does need a win. You constantly have all these calls for him to step down and such, so the next xbox does need to be a pretty big deal. In fact, if things work out right, it may be the Trojan horse that ties together all the things they've been trying to gain traction for, but couldn't, which would end up looking like a master stroke in a series of chess moves that didn't seem to make sense until the next xbox. At least I think that's the impression they want to send, that everybody was looking at a long term plan that is just now ready to come together.

Also 500$ ? that has to be with Kinect2. Buying it seperately for 150$ will make it even more expensive. Talk about digging your own grave.

I don't think it's bad for them. Look at this environment on Gamersyde for example. How much are we talking about PS4?
How many people on your friend's list on FB are saying oooo check out this PS4 vid? Or are they saying WTF dudez, always online no reusable games blahblahblah.

Speculation isn't going to HURT anything. They're just rumors and until the system sees the light of day it will continue to not harm them.
If they reveal and all these rumors prove to be false, everyone will forget very quickly and lap up 720.

I'm not a gold subscriber right now, at least not on my own account, as I pretty much don't like paying for gold, but if Microsoft were to do more than give people those free gold for a month cards that come with 360s currently, and instead maybe included a whole year that they price into that $500 (if that's what it cost), they may find that they attract more subscribers or generally have more people wanting to play online.

Think about it, just because MS likely built a very affordable system, it doesn't mean that they'll actually sell it as one.

They may have even went for a cheaper to build system primarily because they wanted to price in not just Kinect 2, but also significantly more than a month's worth of XBL I know there's already tons of gold subscribers, but I suspect they want that marketing feather in their cap by being able to say, honestly, that all next gen xbox owners have xbl gold. At least it will be true for the first year, and it likely increases their chances of getting some of those folks to maybe subscribe. Because there's no way in hell that I'm buying gold on my own, so their best bet is to throw a year evaluation at me in hopes of somehow getting me attached to it, because as of now I don't feel I need or want it.

A month really isn't a good evaluation, I feel. Because sometimes you can be so damn busy in a month that by the time you look, you've only got a few days left and you hardly played anything. Even 6-9 months worth would be more suitable.
