You think steambox will be cheap? I think that's almost guaranteed to be fairly expensive. Isn't it going to be much more powerful than either Durango or the PS4?
There are three tiers of the steambox concept. The streaming tier will be "cheap-to-free." Gabe's own words.

Steambox isn't a singular platform. It's an umbrella label for a group of standards.

I think i see it as less of a big deal because everything i have runs through a receiver. So this "managing" or "juggling" inputs doesn't exist. I turn on my PS3, and my TV turns on itself, switched source itself, and the sound source switches itself. It would be more hassle for me to use the new BC box since i can only have 1 disc in the drive at a time. At least separately i can have 2.

I'm not sure how it'd work in regards to being network connected at distance either. I mean, by your method, this thing is processing everything on the 360 you have upstairs, but the disc is being read via the 720 downstairs, but the 720 controller downstairs is controlling the game that is being processed on the 360 upstairs. I don't see that happening. I think they'd need to be wired to each other and in the same room.

I mean, just think about what it's doing. You press A on the 720 controller, the signal is then sent to the 720, which is sent to the 360 upstairs, the signal is processed, and marcus fenix steps forward, the 360 then sends a video signal BACK to the 720, it is processed, and it is then displayed on your TV. That sounds like a recipe for input lag. Especially when the 360 isn't really geared up for it all (a BC stand alone box probably would be though)

So now the latest rumor is it does require online access to play games or local app access and it will not block used games, that's excellent if true, but I won't trust anything until the official announce.

I think it's time to face the bitter truth: The NextBox will not be a gaming console (!)...

Its like MS want it to fail! They certainly think that once you established a brand's name, which they did with the 360, you can sell donkey shit under the very same brand name.

Okay, I guess donkey shit might be a bit too harsh, but the Durango and the 360 seem to become 2 products so different that it's a joke to both call them Xbox...

Kind of what they also do with their games.

P.S. And all those "neat" *cough* TV features wont work outside of the US anyway, will they?!

P.P.S Reveal the thing already, I lost track of all the rumours...

The point though is that it will have all the big next generation games, ones that won't be exclusive to the PS4 anyway, and it will also have its own set of exclusives, which I'm sure will include some new IP announcements. Sure, we only have one example of this, but Microsoft did introduce a few new ip when they moved to the 360, so I expect that trend to continue on the next xbox. They know Xbox is about games. Just because they choose to also highlight other features doesn't mean that they are suddenly now ignoring games. Keep in mind that they aren't the ones announcing this stuff. It's far easier for stuff like this to leak compared to what Microsoft is hiding relating to their first party efforts.

New IP released on 360 were.

Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Alan Wake
Forza Horizon
Gears of War
Crackdown
Kameo
Viva Pinata
Mass Effect (the first one)
99 nights
Infinite Undiscovery technically started as an MGS game and then was passed off to Square, I think.

And I believe Microsoft might have partially funded dead rising and lost planet also, or at least put marketing dollars in the games, but I'm not sure about that.

Microsoft has opened up quite a few studios, so clearly they intend to try and up their first party content, but all of that stuff is far less likely to be leaked. But most of my purchases have always been third party, and clearly the next xbox will be well served there also with Watch Dogs, Destiny, BF4, Witcher 3, the list goes on. The fact that it will play such high end games on top of all these extra features is what makes it look so impressive to me. You guys might want a pure gaming console with none of the other attempts at being a big entertainment device, but I want to have my cake and eat it, too. I want them to go all out on entertainment and internet connected features as well as games.

Here's a couple I've read.

#1 On PS4 I'll be able to do BC through Gaikai, without raising my electricity bill by plugging in two different consoles, thank you very much.

#2 Wow, I thought we were done with these kinds of devices, Microsoft.

I think people are seeing that MS have literally stopped dead in their tracks when it comes to new IP's on current gen, and as a result they are apprehensive about getting behind them next gen. I'm sure MS WILL announce new IP's for the 720, but their current (and previous gen) plan off attack of just completely dropping support with new titles doesn't exactly paint a shiny happy future. I want peace of mind when it comes to exclusive titles and new IP's. to know they will continue to dish them out right up until the dying breath of the system. But history is evidence they don't do that. But i suppose this time could be different?

lol, it's the second, smaller, sega genesis system that came with Sonic 2 with a 32x attached in the cartridge slot. It was the first system I ever bought on my own, if I remember correctly. Saved for a whole year to get it.

All fair, Korn. People want to know their purchases are secure and, for lack of a better term, have something unique to offer them that isn't anywhere else, so I definitely see where you're coming from. Microsoft's game plan is pretty documented now, but we'll see if their first party makes the kind of strides that their third party development support did with the 360. They dropped all support for the original xbox in a similar way and then focused it all on the 360, so I kinda expected them to do the same when moving from 360 to their next console. Microsoft has clearly been in prep for their next gen system for quite some time now.

Durango itself will also always be online like any other device (correct with rumors), but it will not be a requirement to play local content and it will not prevent playing used games. Putting in an Xbox 360 disc into Durango will prompt the user to attach the supporting device that is sold separately.
So has this vgleaks info been gleaned from the old docs they had, or is this new info?

This is definitely not from the old documents, because the old documents don't have this info or anything remotely close to it, but there are more recent documents from this year that do mention an internet connection being required. You don't really know what the heck that means, however, because there isn't enough context, but being honest, you were led to believe that an internet connection might be required to play games, but it didn't seem like something they were 100% decided on. A lot of their plans from newer stuff I've seen seems so interchangeable and wide open, almost as if just about anything could change. Their considering all kinds of things. For example, the specs that we all know about may just be a baseline for early development provided by MS, but newer documents actually have Microsoft seeming to consider a set of specs, in some cases, wildly different from what we know. I would say exactly how the stuff is different, but people are worried that some of this documentation has information that may purposely be misleading in order to identify exactly where leaks came from, and you really don't want to get anyone in trouble. On the latest documents, there is a disclaimer stating that devs should stick to approved development guidelines until advised to do otherwise.

So yea, it's all very confusing. Unless you're speaking to a developer, a developer willing to actually confirm specific things that isn't public knowledge regarding the general direction of Microsoft's thinking (of which none of the devs I know are willing to touch with a ten foot pole), then you have a lot of information without added context, context that might have been provided in an accompanying audio file, or maybe through direct talks with the devs. If you know some people well enough in development, they are probably willing to give you pdfs or powerpoints, but almost none are willing to give you accompanying audio from those talks, maybe because it's very specific to their dev studio and games they are working on, which would be a red flag to Microsoft that someone in this studio leaked it. Part of me suspects, however, that vgleaks might have a development source that they are speaking to directly, because none of the stuff I have is as clear cut and specific as they seem to be in their latest article, and I'm quite confident the stuff I have is pretty damn recent. So vgleaks is either pulling this out of their rear based on the fact that Microsoft's documents support their take somewhat, but then they also clearly entertain the alternative. So, if they are being this specific, someone must be talking to them that knows for certain. Or maybe they actually have the accompanying audio files to go along with the stuff that I and others probably have, which provides them with much more information than someone out of the loop such as myself looking at some pages, mostly with info I can't understand, and trying to get something from it.

Well, that's true, but there are some fantastic games on that list. How lucrative they are may matter to MS, and to some extent, probably should matter to gamers also, especially if they want sequels, but I'm happy to have gotten the chance to play Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. They don't make them quite like that anymore. This gen you thought you would see far more major jrpgs, but there wasn't, so Mistwalker's work stands out even more.

It matters because nearly none of them will see sequels. Alan Wake probably will. Not sure how likely Microsoft is to publish.

And frankly, the quality isn't stunning across the board there either. How many of those games could you not live without? I know it's Blue Dragon, for you. for me it's.. none of them.

Alan Wake and Mass Effect aren't even exclusives.

The only games I could not live without on that list are Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. I love Alan Wake, I thought it was a fantastic game, but I can live without it. Mass Effect, yet another fantastic game that I feel can live without, but I'm glad I experienced that game. Essentially, if not for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, I would have never played Halo, Gears, Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Forza, PGR, you name it, so those are really the first party titles that did it for me. There's no way in hell I would've bought a 360 if not for Sakaguchi's games.

Well, the original Mass Effect and Alan Wake both 360 console exclusives and both published by Microsoft Game Studios. That's what I mean. We know the situation with Mass Effect changed, but Microsoft definitely gets credit for funding, supporting and then publishing that title. We know their first party management needs work, but they did get some good new IP off the ground successfully with both Mass Effect and Alan Wake, so we know they have no trouble getting new IP made for their consoles, which is a big concern about the next xbox.

New Xbox to also play games confirmed !? :P

Halo doesn't count, as it isn't a new IP. I was mostly referring to the new IPs that they created since the 360 released. The First Party list would be longer if I included existing IP titles that I enjoyed.

Last Remnant is a third party game by Square Enix. I didn't like that one so much. And Crackdown, I really had high hopes for in the beginning, but when I finally tried it out, I was pretty disappointed that more work wasn't put into it. I thought it would be like a super human cop equivalent of GTA, but it was nothing like that in the end.

And, grift, there are just as many, if not more crappy first party releases on the PS3 also. I just don't want to have to name them all, but if I mention Lair, I'm sure there's a number of them that should immediately occur to you. And then another thing is that quite a few of the PS3's terrible first party games were existing IP. It also goes without saying that I think Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, along with Alan Wake and Mass Effect (the first game) are far from average. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are true throwback style games. Maybe they weren't "next-gen" enough or something, which some reviews claimed, but they were truly fantastic games that were really well done on so many levels. Shit, I don't even want to get into a long rant on this, but I have nothing but amazing memories of those games. I'm actually playing BD through again as we speak. The biggest weaknesses of those games, and I don't really consider it much of a weakness, is that they weren't mainstream enough for most audiences, and I like it that way.

Adam Sessler was totally correct when he said that the whole idea behind metacritic and companies believing it's proof of anything regarding their games is a gigantic joke that needs to end.
