Oh, right, but one is a patent drawing and one is an actual thing Microsoft is screaming at us.
Well, up to you to believe whatever you want, but I don't see where the significant difference is between Sony filing a patent and Microsoft filing a patent. Sometimes patents include pictures and drawings, but there is also accompanying text. Like that reported Sony used games patent that some sites reported on, for example. The real dilemma some seem to have is not what the patent is about, but which company does the filing. I mean, I know how this all works so I shouldn't be surprised, but the console wars are truly here indeed. :)

At best it's just an intended compliment to the core gaming experience. It will never be as important as gaming itself on a gaming device. Despite what Microsoft showcased at the reveal event, that isn't their intent, either, but they specifically chose to show off that aspect of the machine before showing their entire hand on gaming at E3. Again, not entirely wise. I agree with those who say it needed more gaming, but they can make up for it at E3.

So apparently that entire kinect presentation wasnt even real-time and he was using a clicker in his pocket. This just keeps getting worse and worse for microsoft. I have a feeling theyre gonna blow everyone away with the games theyre gonna show at E3. Speaking of... what game announcements are you expecting, and what surprise announcements do you think are legitimately possible?

My guess is we'll almost certainly see Halo 5 teaser, gears of war 4, and then final fantasy 15.

Sony and Microsoft both hold a ton of patents for game related technology that they don't even use. There is no difference between Sony filing a patent and Microsoft filing a patent.

You're comparing a patent, for the sake of grasping at straws, to something very real and very much at the forefront of Microsoft's agenda.

And you try to make it out like it's all some kind of anti-Microsoft agenda. Surely such motives exist, but Microsoft isn't receiving unwarranted criticism. The only agenda I see is the scrambling for damage control.

I made fun of that very patent in the Sony thread. But that was just a sorry ass deflection.

LOL. And your proof of that is some random person telling IGN that he saw him put his hands in his pockets and they saw movement in his pocket. The demonstration wasn't faked. It was an actual real-time demo. You realize how skilled this man would need to be in order to accurately while going in his pocket pick the very specific things that he said with his voice on a remote control that he can't see? This wasn't some powerpoint presentation where it's just on to the next slide. This was jumping from one tv channel or console function to the next, and then tossing in some other stuff in between.

See, You lost me there. Very real and at the forefront of their agenda? Based on... a patent when you yourself say.

Just because you see it as being possible, as a lot of Sony and Microsoft patents tend to be in the current generation even if they opt not to utilize them, doesn't mean that it's happening in the here and now. A lot of the patents that you see aren't necessarily all things that anybody could completely cast aside as just theoretical applications, but most of them turn out to be exactly that when all is said and done.

It's possible that it could be set up to work like a powerpoint presentation, the whole conference was scripted, there is no reason to believe that Usef (or whatever his name was) had practised his 10 mins on stage many times to get it right.

It's feasible that Kinect 2 couldn't process the image on such a large stage also, especially considering it isn't designed to be used like that.

Of course neither of us know for certain so I guess nobody can say for sure what actually happened.

So you think it is pure coincidence that every single time he said something to kinect his hands went into his pockets? Seems odd to me, but maybe it is. I guess nobody really knows except microsoft... seems preeeeeeeeeeeetty suspicious. Why would he have to be "so skilled" at clicking a clicker? I do it all the time during powerpoint presentations. I dont consider my self "so skilled." But if you think so.. maybe I should put it on my resume?

Also, how can you be sure it wasn't faked? U seem pretty positive about it considering you have absolutely no clue...unless you work for Microsoft, which would surprise no one, lol.

It's possible, but that takes a lot of reaching, I think. This wasn't some demo reel, this was the live Xbox OS in action using live television broadcasts... and real-time Skype conversations. And even entertaining the notion that it was scripted, why wouldn't Microsoft be able to accomplish that level of voice recognition when Windows Phone can basically already do it, or that level of Kinect integration when Kinect One on the current Xbox 360 and the PC already works at a fairly high level?

And you'd think that of all the things that would be called into question about the Xbox One presentation, the Kinect functionality, something thoroughly tested out by the gaming press, probably wouldn't be one of them. I mean, so they probably weren't allowed to play with the Xbox OS to the extent this guy did, but that shouldn't surprise people that Microsoft may not have allowed that just yet. The new Kinect in demonstration after demonstration so far has been, at the very least, most impressive.

I didn't make it up, someone that works for IGN said it and its on the front page of neogaf. Doesnt mean its true, but who's to say it isn't given the evidence? Go watch the demo, he puts his hands in his pocket every single time he says something. Tell me thats not odd.

lol ya probably, i was just bringing it to the discussion since other boards are talking about it. Conferences are faked all the time so they don't mess up in front of a live audience and all the media members. To brush it off like its not even possible is a little close-minded don't you think?

So? maybe he used a clicker, I don't see a problem there. Maybe Kinect isnt built to properly work in huge room filled with hundreds of people.

There are videos of what Kinect 2.0 is capable of and I dont think it has problems with simple voice commands.

That beeing said, I think the whole idea of Kinect is shit. Talking to gadgets in your living-room...not my cup of beer...

What i found more suspicious was the big screen version of his phone doing things when he wasn't touching it. As for the clicker in his pocket...who knows. I wouldn't put it past them. They tried it with milo, why not now. Ultimately it's a small issue in a festering sea of shit atm.

Well thats what the post above is suggesting, games will be cheaper because publishers and MS can make more money from second hand games.
No, the prices of games will cost the same. The only fatter wallets, will be game developers & MS wallets, and their shareholders.

They will not pass the savings on to the consumer. Watch and see.

The Xbox One will not require gamers to pay a fee to reactivate a used game, but it will require a regular online spot check to verify the authenticity of games being played, according to sources familiar with the system.

While an internet connection will be required for the console, the company is also experimenting with special exemption codes that could be given to select people in very particular, internet-free situations, like active-duty soldiers serving in war zones, sources tell Polygon.
The Xbox One will automatically authenticate a game using an encryption code built into a game's disc, when it is installed on the machine. That authentication on the console's hard drive tied to the game is then verified regularly through an internet connection.

When a person sells the game or it is installed and played on another system, the game is deauthenticated on the original machine until the disc is brought back and used to re-authenticate the installation.

I don't get what or why they're "experimenting" with anything tbh (assuming those statements from polygon are even accurate) just leave it as it is. It works, we don't need a new system. Just let us sell, lend and rent games like we can now. It's not that difficult. And if you can simply input a code to exempt you from online checks that sounds like destination #1 for hackers.

If those quotes are really whats going on, i have 2 responses.

1. They finalised their plans enough to notify retailers but the extreme and justified backlash has made them change their key policies. Hopefully enough to allow for lending, pre-owned and renting in a non MS controlled, non convoluted way.

2. If they indeed never had a finalised plan for their used game policy, why oh fucking why did so many MS employee's, be it harrison, nelson or any number of others actually even comment on it, why did they go into detail on it, why did they open their mouths at all? Are they morons? "No comment" would have saved them a lot of bother, and maybe gamestops stocks would be a little higher.

I mean, THIS is the problem

So they don't know what they're saying, and they don't know what they're doing.
The ultimate system that Xbox One will use for used games and online authentication sounds like it is still in open debate on some level internally, which may explain the company's reticence in more directly clarifying the matter this week. Microsoft executives have been discussing the reaction to the confused messaging surrounding used games and internet requirements and plan to detail the console's take on both sometime before E3, according to our sources.
At this rate I don't think anything they confirm or deny will hold true until the consoles are on shelves. They cannot make up their minds.

Ahhhhhhh, now I see what's up. You can sell your game, but not going to be able to keep the installation on your HDD. Okay, basically the same used game principles with a verification process. Well once you've sold that game then you're pretty much done with it anyway.

There's only a 500GB hard drive in this console. If I use an external, will the Xbox One treat it as an authentic drive?

You also need to consider that this if from polygons unnamed "sources" whereas all the "used game fees" info is direct from MS themselves. Hence why i think they either changed their mind due to gamer backlash (after all, making the publishers happy about used games means squat when no-one is buying your console) or this is just a bunch of damage control. It's kinda lame either way tbh. What company has so many different and conflicting answers to the same god damn question...lol.

Hence why following all this information so closely has its drawbacks. Because if come time of release, a good deal of what people were so concerned about isn't actually there at all, or either isn't anywhere as bad as people assumed, then all this hand wringing was over nothing.
