GSY Video PC

We received yesterday afternoon our own Geforce RTX 2080 TI and after some technical issues (this is Gamersyde after all) we got it at work on Metro Exodus to check its raytraced Global Illumination system. As expected the difference goes from very subtle to quite flagrant depending on the scenes, with a maybe slightly more natural lighting and much more contrast (same might say too much) in the darker part of the map. Let's start with these two videos of the Volga level, running in 4K Ultra Preset, with DLSS enabled and RTX in Ultra mode, showing a game that almost manages to get up to 60 fps in these conditions. 2 more videos will follow shortly, with more within the next few days hopefully showing direct comparisons between RTX on and off.
Update: Added two videos with this time RTX on High.

Can we get some 4K footage without DLSS? I suspect you thought of DLSS as of improvement but it's basically another upscaling/resonstruction technic that tends to make picture less detailed and introduce various visual artifacts. Game was rendered at 1440p and then upscaled to 4K hence why you've managed to get 60 fps. Watch GamersNexus' video about DLSS for more details.

I suspect they deliberately used DLSS to improve framerate enough to hit 60fps with raytracing at fake "4K".

We will do 30 fps videos at actual 4K resolution later.
As for "we thought as of improvement", even if it's rendered at 1440k it's still better than your average reconstruction (which can be perfectly acceptable depending on what you are playing on), so you bet we are going to use it. I watch gamernexus too and I highly respect their ethics and methods, but the way they simply ignore DLSS altogether is imho wrong.

Not sure what you mean by that, they did indepth DLSS analysis previously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpd5j5W1NZw I don't think implementation differs from game to game.

Looking forward to 4K@30 videos! Thank you.

I mean that DLSS should still be included in the benchmarks they released today of Metro Exodus.

its interesting to think that, to be fair, i honestly dont know the difference between ray tracing and non-ray tracing games. It begs the question - are the RTX cards of this generation worth it when there are so few titles actually taking advantage of it, and when they do, it hits the framerate hard?

Thanks as always for the top quality videos - although ive never been a mega-fan, I think I may purchase this metro at full price.

tbh, Nivida would not be able to know the specific amount of RT cores that would be necessary. be that it's uncharted tech. by default manufactures load as much recourses up to the price tag and size of the card. AMD claims currently that RT cores are still too expensive to implement.

Any chance on some gameplay videos from the normal Xbox One? I'd like to compare it to PS4 but all youtube videos have low bitrate and since the Xbox One version has dynamic resolution I don't know when they show it's true version..

Seth sry my mistake, ye i wanted to say that they are huge fans of first parties and ready to move on and wait ages for eventual pc port. (2 Days ago)

  • KORNdog

KORNdog there are people out there who are going to wait for PS5 before playing last of us 2. but even that sort of wait sounds far too excruciating to me. (2 Days ago)

  • KORNdog

KORNdog @Seth: i mean, it's a viable option, but if you were a big fan of sony exclusives to begin with you'd need to have an insane amount of patience to wait 3 years to play it on PC (2 Days ago)

  • Seth

Seth @KORNdog: yeah i don't see this happen anytime soon. it's why i find funny some people suddenly say ''i'm done, after 25 years with ps, moving to pc''. (2 Days ago)
