First 10 minutes PC Xbox 360 PS3

As you all know, Crytek decided to finally release Crysis on consoles and the game is now available to all 360 and PS3 owners for $19.99/€19.99. A friend of mine did not resist the temptation and bought the 360 version, so I asked him to come over so I could capture the first 20 minutes of the game. Beware though, the first video is rather small (because it takes place at night) but you'll need extra bandwidth for the second one for sure. As a bonus, I also captured a few extracts from the good old PC version so you can have a 1080p video in 30 fps. If you compare all versions, you will have to admit that, even though the PC version is the best, Crytek did a very good job with the console port.

Everything is a good, a great port.

My issue is shadows looks like big moving dots when its cast toward say rocks and you check the shadoww, and it looks grainy.

And the Ps3 version, by no surprise, is the lower resolution, Crytek dont seem to learn how to manage to pull off a native 720p on PS3, even after their crappy Crysis 2 attempt.

That being said, great port in gameplay.

On consoles, you can not use Strength mode to have a much more stable accuracy when shooting (it usually drains energy when doing so).
And you can not drop weapons, so think twice when picking two pistols.

Yes,its a great port indeed,i like it more tehn crysis 2 already, the ai on delta also is above the veteranin crysis 2.There are some bugs like repeated animations, but, the most annoyning one is that sometimes the music stops, only ambient sound,i dont know hy(spdf connection on 5.1 system)
Why are you sure that the ps3 counterpart is still lesser resolution than the x360?I have nt seen any comparison that justifies this yet?Where have you seen that?Or you assume that from the crysis 2 differnces?Just curious

It indeed looks great from a pure graphically standpoint, for being a console game. No doubt about that. However, I think the framerate issues are quite unacceptable at times, and overall I think gamers are too forgiving with that kind of technial shortcomings. For me it kinda ruins an experience, a game should run smoothly if's finished and released - end of the discussion, you know. The slow framerate does just make it feel sloppy and unfinished... Makes it more difficult to enjoy the experience as it was intended.

So, basically: less details and better framerate over breathtaking graphics and sloppy framerate any day, if you ask me. But of course it's all about optimizing as well; a game could look fantastic and run at a smooth locked 30 frames per second, with the right developer behind it.

I bought the PS3 version a day after the 360 came out, and I actually played the same level at the same time on both.
PS3 version looks lower res than 360 version.

One advice I have to give to PS3 owners that have 1080p HDTV is to uncheck 1080p and ONLY have 720p checked in Display Settings.
If you have 1080p on and play a game that "supports" 1080p, the HUD, text, visuals all around will be lower resolution, but if you play 720p only the TV itself will force the upscale, its a MUCH better way, you will see the difference even during the main menu, logos...etc.

yeah, i really dont like the look of the lighting. it creates nice shadows, but the lighting itself seems far too oversaturated and yellowy.

They could ofcourse have opted for 60 fps, and cut heavily in graphics, but then it wouldn't be Crysis anymore, would it?
Sure, but I don't think that's an good excuse. If you have a game that doesn't run smoothly enough, you'll have to make it do. For me it's not really a technial achievement to create stunning graphics if it's clear the console, engine or whatever can't really handle it.

With that kind of thinking, we could just as well just accept all developers to pack more details, effects and textures that any console can handle - just as long as it LOOKS good on stills.

What I mean, basically, is that the graphical power lose it's value if it doesn't run as it should. It just doesn't matter how good it look then.

I honestly have no problems with that. I also have 1080p checked, But then again..my tv auto-scals to 720p, it does it all by itself, it notifies me of that on the upper left of the screen when i start a game. So maybe that's why its fine here?

It's actually closer to the brown color. Almost all consoles games has that "brown and bloom look".

It didn't come out of nowhere lol. Farcry 1 and 2 have been on the xbox, it has just not been like all over like the other big hits. We live in the CoD era, so if its not Cod you won't hear about it like that.

I wonder if Crytek handled this reprogrammed port (since it would make perfect sense using CE3 instead of 2) themselves.
I wonder because it makes me wonder if they really care that console gamers get interested in Crysis or just buy the game based on old PC gamer hype and C2 hype.
Not that I would expect a 1:1 conversion but the whole purpose of CE3 based on the consoles is to easily make games using Crytek's software that should be taking advantage of each console's hardware and give UE3 a major challenge.
I am all too aware of the major flaws in the 3d engine that some people don't want to hear like over-rendering water animation that you cannot see when on dry land or super high polycount on useless non interactive objects like roadblocks as was found in the investigation by that French site.
But my opinion is that Crytek should have handled this and done their best possible job without thinking about the PC versions while also gaining experience and fixing the wrongs that were shipped in the retail C2, otherwise gamers will just not care, I mean console gamers of course because if the game does not feel tight and does not have its old flaws addressed its just not going to be like the hype magically sells it when this game is being released in a killzone of FPS banner months like now.

The whole point is to get console gamers into the story started in the first game since earlier this year they just got a "sequel game" but were not offered the prequel first.
