GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

We particularly liked The Surge 2 back when we reviewed it before its original release in September, but we have been concerned with the performance issues we have been facing since then. While our review code allowed us to play in 4K with an 80/85% resolution scaling without witnessing a single frame drop, we now cannot go over 1080p with our RTX 2080 Ti and i9 9900K and it's been the case for months. Lowering the settings makes no difference, neither did our many attempts at reinstalling the game and switching to another SSD. With that in mind, we were afraid we might not be able to enjoy the new DLC which came out last week. In the end, we did have a pleasant time with it despite the occasional drops (in 1080p!!!), but we didn't expect it to be so short. Quick explanations inside.
Note: If you're interested in The Kraken, stay away from the second part of our video, which shows its final boss.

Verdict

As eager as we were to go back to The Surge 2, the first hour left us with the feeling this was going to be a solid first DLC. Little did we know that we only had about 30 minutes of gameplay left after that... As you can imagine, the storyline, though not totally uninteresting, does not truly have the time to become substantial. Some will say it 's not the franchise's main strength, but since the DLC is so short, gameplay is affected too somehow. The new area is pleasant to discover, and though some enemies are merely clever recycling of Jericho's soldiers with a skull instead of a real head, it leaves a good impression overall. That being said, there are no few places to explore than even the shortcuts don't bring as much relied as they normally do. On top of that, the 2 bosses are not particularly challenging in New Game + (that's how we played the game as you need to reach half of the main story to be able to play the DLC) and they lack originality, especially the first one. In the end, added to the performances issues we now have to face, it's hard to recommend this first attempt at extending the experience of The Surge 2, and we really hope Deck10 will be back at the top of their game next time.
  • On the upside
  • Gameplay is still excellent
  • A new area to discover...
  • New enemies...
  • New gear
  • 2 bosses...
  • On the downside
  • Far too short (90 minutes tops)
  • ... but pretty limited in terms of space
  • ... but some recycling too
  • Performance issues ever since September
  • ... but no real challenge or originality

nostradamus massive downgrades coming from the staples achieved w/ the Halo 3 sandbox/physics, with Dice/BField it should never be a trade-off, ony thing they should be trading its engine if it isnt up 3 the job (1 Day ago)

nostradamus Halo keeps being this Sonic title bait & switch "will their next title be able to Look up par with its current gen counterparts"? Never. Even Halo 4 who was pretty good on Campaign suffered from (1 Day ago)

nostradamus tech? I dunno, go get some insight of Activision (the good input, not the misogyny), all they COD devs make evident generation leaps tech-wise. Do they keep being the same core IP? I think so. (1 Day ago)

  • nostradamus

nostradamus so Halo must be thet bottomb of the barrel FPS to keep its identity. Add some negligible subsurface scattering reflections or some other tech only possible now and call it the day copy/pasting the ol (1 Day ago)

nostradamus Halo Infinite sure is one ugly damn game. Pretty obvious nothing is going to massible change if the Ip doesn't die and start from the ground up with another publisher/dev that doesn't retread the ol (2 Days ago)
