Inscrit depuis 6765 JoursXbox One’s cloud framework will update on a regular basis and this could lead to the system rebooting mid-session, according to Xbox Live lead program manager at Microsoft John Bruno.
Bruno hosted a presentation at GDC Next yesterday entitled “On Demand Compute: Power For Games,” and IGameResponsibly was apparently there to hear what he had to say.
During the session, Bruno said that cloud-based system Xbox Live Compute has been in development for 18 months and is derived from Windows Azure tech. He conceded that the tech initially received criticsm from publishers such as Ubisoft early on, but that Respawn Entertainment was an easier sell.
Now, the studio is using Xbox Live Compute to offload many facets of Titanfall’s online play to the cloud, such as NPC AI, an more.
Touching on the issue of the Xbox One’s cloud-based updates Bruno explained, “Once in a while, rather frequently actually, the host OS will require an update, meaning the physical machine is going to get rebooted, whether your code is running or not. That’s a problematic thing for a game, and is oftentimes is in the middle of a multiplayer session, we’ve worked very hard to overcome that, but that’s not to say it’s going to be a reality in every case.”
This could be very problematic indeed. The site pressed Bruno on this issue and asked how disruptive these updates will be given Titanfall’s status as an online-only release. They also asked him about the worst-case scenario of Microsoft’s cloud servers failing altogether.
He replied, “I can’t answer that. I don’t know what the guys over at Titanfall have built into their game. It’s up to the game developer. If they want to rely more on our XBLC service, we’re happy to support that. We do provide a platform for them to persist data, but that’s up to the developer to utilize that.”
It begs the question of Titanfall’s performance without the cloud. Will it still run without cloud servers?
Inscrit depuis 5548 JoursIt will be interesting how the devs use the cloud , and i would have thought there would be a number of clusters and auto failovers setup with the thousands of Azure servers?, will be interesting to see if and how this effects live gameplay? come launch.
Anyway back to football.

It will take some time before the devs use the special kinks like Tiled Resources, which only the One is capable of hardware-wise [and PC of course with DX11.2]. So the One will catch on and maybe, even surpass PS4 in terms of visuals. But would that stop you from buying your beloved Sony Santa Monica, Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Quantic Dreams etc. franchises? No, it shouldn't. Because it's about the games, not the hardware.

So because if only you say so, we should all take that for granted? Did you even bother to look-up "tiled resources"?

I saw some guy posting how he was conflicted about buying the PS4( This is a real example, not some dig, btw) because he was interested in a couple XO exclusives. The kicker was he wasn't buying any games for the PS4 because he didn't feel drawn in by the available exclusives. So instead of getting the one with the games he wants, he gets the "more Powerful" one because of spec sheets. All the power in the world doesn't mean a hill-'o-beans if you don't like what's on it. I don't know how that's a tough decision, really. Just weird.
Reminds me when I said I played RYSE and combat played like Batman games and you also said no [though you never played it]. Frozpot had the same impression a few posts back btw ...

Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
Inscrit depuis 5996 JoursUltimately are any of us really super excited for RYSE, Killzone (well I am, but most people probably aren't), or dead rising 3? Well, maybe some people really are.. but overall I'd guess that no we aren't. We're buying the XB1 because Halo and Titanfall are coming and PS4 because the Naughty Gods are making something for it and we want to play whatever that might be (and to be our dedicated FIFA, CoD/BF machines). So I find the argument that the XB1 has better exclusives at launch rather stupid ... the games that people will be playing primarily are multiplatform to begin with, and the exclusives we're really excited about are coming next year.
Console launches are a funny thing. We try to justify our $400-500 purchases with these games that ultimately are kind of shit.. and yet we convince ourselves that they aren't just so we can justify buying something new and shiny. Never really thought too hard about this before but I think there's truth to it.
Also found this article studying the most "beloved" brands. Funny to see both Sony and Microsoft so high up, wonder if that's entirely due to the console wars?

Inscrit depuis 7244 JoursI don't see me getting a PS4 until sometimes next year. I don't buy a console to be loyal or because of specs but because of games and right now neither console has a game worth plunking that much cash down for.

If you have been observing gaming trends over 5-10yrs it is pretty easy to know . For me and some other it is pretty easy to know what is going on and what Microsoft has been doing for a long time now. Actually there was an important article somewhere I read why Microsoft came into gaming consoles. Sony made PS4 as a gaming console first that can do some other things. Microsoft did the other way round.

Inscrit depuis 7120 JoursI have a Gaming- capable PC, but I would still rather play on console. It's weird, I played Bad Company on my 360 WAAAy more than BF3( though I did have fun with it) on my PC, and BF3 is arguably the better game. I'm actually playing Batman on PC as well( just fought DeathStroke, and It was pretty awesome!)
I'm one of the people that is really, really glad MS is doing the Multimedia hub, and it's another major factor in my decision to go with the One first.
On another note, after playing Ryse myself, I am absolutely excited for it. It went from a "neat" to my first pick. FM5 will also be awesome. I would have bought DR3 as well if it weren't a launch title as I loved the first two, and what I saw on the One Tour was impressive... So your assertions on those fronts are flawed, at least from my perspective...

The other 10% usually involved craziness like igniting and flattening hundreds of zombies at once with a steamroller-equipped, fire-spewing motorcycle – and in those cases I didn’t mind so much because of THE STEAMROLLER-EQUIPPED, FIRE-SPEWING MOTORCYCLE!"
