Fable 3 (First Screenshots INside!)

I don't believe that, i think a lot of people got burnt with Fable 2, Fable is a bit of a mish mash of genre's and that might be why it does so well though, there isn't really much out there that offers the same sense of adventure besides Zelda and they only come by once every 4-5 years.

More than anything though Fable is too easy and is one of those games that sits well with casual gamers, no doubt another reason it did so well sales wise.

"A roleplaying game is all about this is me playing the role of a hero and a king or a queen" or "A roleplaying game is all about this is me playing the role of a hero with a gun shooting things in the face". I'm sorry, but that is a rediculous "definition" of an RPG, if you go by that every game in the history of gaming is an RPG. "Oh look, im playing the role of a line hitting a ball across a court" or "Oh look, im playing the role of a manager viewing these stats and managing my team".

Look, RPG's are very firmly rooted in D&D, it's about stats, items, inventory, character progression, improvement, adventuring, playing a role, combat, stories etc. When you start removing these things and watering down the definition you morph it into something else, an "rpg" with only an adventuring elements and a story is still classified as an adventure game NOT an RPG. ME1 for me, was an RPG, it had all of the required elements, ME2 for me was not an RPG, it was a 3rd person action game with some weak RPG elements (no inventory, very limited items, very limited customisation), the fable series very much falls into this category, only it was never a strong RPG to begin with.

Molyneux was on the 1Up podcast and specifically defined RPG as a game where you gain experience and grow stronger, explicitly said as a result of that he doesn't really consider Fable 3 an RPG anymore.

However there will still be character growth in the game that better serves a sense of "role", the way it's portrayed in a Fable game.

He goes on to say that the decision was made to create a new "currency" that better enforces every area of the game, not just ones associated with RPG statistics.

In fact, he initially does a convincing job of appearing grounded and reasonably reeled in. Then he starts ranting about touching your co-op friends to throw them in dungeons and it all turns a bit abstract from there, reminding you that yeah this is still Molyneux. Once the recorded interview is done playing, somebody points out (Garnett?) that Peter usually has two games going at the same time; the game in his head and the actual game. He kinda switches which he's talking about on the fly.

One of my big issues with Fable 2 is that, for a big budget title that's suppose to be a major story driven affair, it truly wasn't even close, in my view. It really felt as if there wasn't much of a story there at all. There didn't even appear to be a decent enough build up for the main bad guy. It was all very anti-climactic. But then, if it's anything like a number of the major titles this generation, the first one is simply just not nearly as polished and as fully realized as the same gen follow up.

I think MS were pushing him to launch sooner than he was ready, the amount of glithes kind of showed that.

I think Fable has the potential to be great, but for us to see a game like anything Molyneux envisioned would take 3-4 years to make and MS just don't seem to want to invest that amount of time in a game so it seems, quite the oppisite to Sony.

Hate to say it but it just seems to me Peter just wants the $$$ nowadays. The shit he says after starting off in the Fable franchise is just ridiculous to me. I don't ever remember him talking the way he does now. I think he's just as willing to rush out a sequel as MS is.

There will be a ton of quick sequels this year though. I dunno if that's just where R&D is at now, and they can do it that quickly, or if they want to go for broke while they can on this gen of consoles.

Yeah he's some sort of consultant for the "european divisions of Microsoft Game Studios".

It's not really a thing that'll be noticable on the "outside" though, so one has to assume it means that in addition to talking a whole lot of dreamy gibberish he's reasonably good at doing his job. The jobby job kind I mean.

Sure there is the odd one in this lit glass screen i am staring at, but some people dont have very high expectations.

like me, the second game has made me pretty aprehensive about the third. to a point i may just let the dust settle and see what's what before i buy it. i jumped right into the second based on the glowing reviews. but it seems you can't really count on them when it coems to fable because i was massively dissapointed by it. .

Same with most AAA titles though Korn, reviewers just spew out random crap, you got people slating it for the sake of slating it (to get more hits on there site) and people praising it to get on the box art and some advertising in there mag/site.

I trust my own hunches over reviewers and word of mouth, i know what i like and fable 2 was close with the style but pissed it all away with the content (oh and the achievement if you bought there arcade game...fuck off)

Just look at bards tale.. no one really liked it, but good god the game had me in tears.

SPROUT WINGS AND SHOOT BEAMS OF LIIIIIIGHT, AND YOUR SWORD IS CHANGING INTO AN EVIL LOOKING SWORD THING AS YOU BEAT HIM OVER THE HEAD WITH IT!"

The meetings they're having regarding this game has to result in a whole mess of moments where everyone is at a loss for words.

Or overlord, where you collect totems or whatever at different sections through the game to give you the next power. Would hardly call it collecting or equipping either, its just an alternate mechanic to the game unlocking a power at a different portion through the game.
