I know what you mean about previous game him being a bike messenger and he was kind of "homeless" to do much changing and all.

I still dislike the tattoos.

"Infamous 2's presentation starts, oddly enough, with the game's director, Nate Fox, practically apologizing for its protagonist's new look, which hasn't been particularly well received by fans. "We read the blogs," he says, before reminding us that the game is, "at the midpoint on a two year journey." It's a statement that doesn't actually commit to anything, but we can infer from it that there's a good chance Cole will be getting his appearance retweaked a bit before the game hits."

Gameplay
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-chase-...

Very awesome, seems to offer more stuff that appeals to me than the first one.
Nice cool melee attacks, nice upgraded powers, MUCH better running animations and "attack stance"...and the end power was awesome LOL.

This video was very appealing, can't wait to see more!

i'm proper psyched for this after seeing that. it'a like infamous with 'awesome factor' turned up to 11. i see what they meant when various places where comparing what they saw behind closed doors to uncharted 2, they've really upped the cinematic feel of the game.

it looks really nice (still got some pretty awful pop-in tho) and a lot better then the first (which i already thought looked great for an open world game) and the gameplay additions and refinements look wicked. when the buildings started falling to bits and that very last uber power my jaw was on the floor. wall sliding looks cool, lighting looks amazing. i want it ASAP.

I hope it still retains the benefits of an open game though, so that you can play it with a sense of agency, and not just walk a narrow path they intended for you. The brilliance of the first game was that they set you up with a FLAWLESS control system and introduced powers that each fed into your playstyle, and then you could tackle the game as this genuinely flexible and awesome combat force.

The nature of your powers, evil or good ones, accomodated your particular approach to a problem, and it'd be a bummer if that stuff is played down.

I'm really wary of the impact UC2 is having on games. When I was a kid I used to hate it when toys had an automatic function.. like walking or driving by themselves, or flapping their arms if you pressed a button in the back. I feel like this strain of games is that thing, that the developers decide how we play things for us. I still have imagination, and I still like using that when I play a game, especially a very character control focused, open game like this.

There's a place for the authored roller coaster ride for SURE. I love Modern Warfare 2 and I love Uncharted 2. My concern is that it's being applied to genres with their own inherent strengths that are reduced by it.

i saw infamous 1 as the opposite of that almost. it was open only in the sense that it was a single area where the linear, focused, and quite limiting missions took place and where accessed from. but that is the reason i liked it as much as i did. it felt like the areas in which the missions took place where designed and crafted to be approached in a very specific, and linear way, be it the sewer systems where you pick up powers, or the trash tower, or rescuing zeke from the shipping yard etc. the only time it really deviated from that was the side missions, which felt like typical open world fare in the sense they lacked the impact and structure of the main story missions.

infamous did open world in a way no other really has. games like prototype and spider-man and crackdown lack focus. they give you options and abilities, but ultimately let you use them in a very samey way. setting a mission on one rooftop doesnt differentiate itself enough from another rooftop. infamous however crafted areas almost akin to a more linear game, like uncharted, but set them within the open-world landscape. but that is why it worked as well as it did. it had the exploration and sense of freedom that comes with an open-world game, but the main story was handled in a very linear, story driven fashion. its the best combination imo. and GTA is the only other game that comes close to the way it does things.

infamous 2 will no doubt be the same, but by the looks of things, it's upping the cinematic flair that games benefit from imo. dead space is doing it and it looks all the more impressive for it. infamous is the same. it looks very linear in the way you have to progress through this mission in particular, but then most of the missions in the first where the same as mentioned above, not to mention it's a chase sequence, you can rarely deviate from a set path when you're doing chase missions.

if they can give infamous that awesome uncharted 2 touch of magic, while keeping the sense of freedom, character progression and good/evil gameplay, then this is gonna be seriously impressive.

Yeah, I - emphasis included - agree. I do kinda think Dead Space 2 looks like bullshit from the scripted shit-hitting-the-fan demo from E3, because that's seriously not what I want from that game, but that's another matter.

I love love love love the first InFamous. I said already when I played that - and InFamously gave it top marks on M7 - that if a sequel were to be made to address my admittedly fairly minor complaints and add things I don't even know I want, it's going to be scary good. I don't even know how my body will react to it.

I like the old cole much better, he seemed edgy. This guy just seems like every other typical nub with hair gel wearing a t-shirt.

And the old guy looked like a generic buzz cut character we seen multiple times already.
And I dont see the "hair gel" guy with this new one, you want hair gel you take look at Japanese characters LOL.
Only thing they need to change IMO is the body design but keep the voice and head design.

I think the voice is alright, but the real bummer is still how.. I dunno.. well adjusted he looks. Anything about him that suggests he's JUST A ZANY GUY DOING HIS ZANY THING - HEYOOO BABES, LOOKIN' GOOD, SMELL MY MINTY FRESH, SHAVED ARMPITS just seems completely out of character. And I don't mean that as a personality thing, I mean HE'S AN EFFING ELECTRIC SUPER HERO OUTCAST THINGYMA-MAN. He doesn't have to be brooding or anything, but he should definitely have a much more casual style.

His hairstyle literally suggests that he spends time styling his hair in the mornings. That sucks. That sucks so hard he might aswell add it to his list of super powers.

Old Cole wasn't a standout character either, but new Cole is indeed pretty shitty. His look and voice are just terrible. I can already tell no amount of play time will change the fact that I already hate him. Lucky for them everything else about the game looks boss, so one can look past such things.

I will have a laugh every time I die though(SHITTY COLE DIED WOOOO!), which judging by the first game, will be a lot.

I can tell you that falling into the water while stubbornly going for the chards on top of poles in the water was my number one cause of death in InFamous. I ALWAYS got nervous and spazzed out at the *last jump*.

Don't forget the Reapers with sniper like accuracy. I didn't die that much from them, but the fact they were so god damn accurate always pissed me off. Didn't matter how far or how high they were, they always hit you dead on first shot. As for the shards, I eventually stopped bothering. They were too damn troublesome, and you didn't even need that much extra battery cores to beat the game. Also, that damn trophy was only a bronze. Fuck them.

those images are from the original (and now old) gameinformer issue that revealed the game. the footage we've seen since in trailers and gameplay is the more recent version of cole. i guess they wanted to retain the skinhead look from the first, but then decided against it (makes sense since hair styles tend to change over time)

either way i'd be happy tbh. i just dont want them to change what he's wearing now. i've grown to really like it.

Simon, you seriously think the old Cole was a hair-geled guy? wow you must only look at buzzcut characters only then.
Just because they have hair doesnt mean their hair has gel in it.

My hair is somewhat similair to Cole with hair and I dont have one hair product in it at all.

I think you are just making an excuse to hate it more because you got attached to the original Cole.
I really hate hair gel douches as well, but the redesigned Cole looked nothing like that, except the whole tattoo thing which I hate.

I dunno how to approach your post really. I know the difference between Cole's standard issue faux-hawk hairdo and somebody without hair gel, thank you very much.

They've left the old design so far behind that it doesn't even cross my mind anymore, but as I've been saying over and over in this thread I think Cole should look like a no nonsense kind of guy. I think anything about him that makes him look like he spends longer than 2 minutes in front of a mirror in the morning is a bad idea. Buzz cut at least says "I don't give a fuck", and I like that as a quality in what's meant to be an outcast, reluctant super hero.

I will *never*, *ever* make an "excuse" to hate something. In my time here, if anything, it should be obvious that I try my very best to be as honest and fair as humanly possible on these topics.

I still dont understand why they re-designed Cole though, gameplay, world...sure thats given, but a entire main character design? Not good.

IMO, the original design didnt bother me that much to begin with.

Are you bald? :P
Guys with hair gel is infront of the mirror for atleast 30 minutes to get that "perfect shape in place".
Every guy with decent short hair will always fix their hair right every morning to make it look good for like 2 minutes, you dont expect everyone just waking up and leaving their morning grizzled hair just be like that do you?

Sorry but that is a silly thing to say TBH.

But still, his entire rest of design is BAD.
Thats just me though.

So everyone with a buzzcut is "i dont give a fuck" type? LOL hilarious thing to say.

they redesigned him because they couldn't get the orignal voice actor. coles forced batman voice from the first game fit the way he looked. but take the voice away, and you basically have 2 choices. have a new voice (as heard in the trailer/gameplay) but stick it on a visual appearance that doesnt work at all (it'd be like the terminator talking like jet lee. doesnt fit) or you redesign the character to better fit the voice. they did what they had to do given the circumstances.

not to mention the amount criticism the original voice got. most devs would have simply found a voice actor with a similar voice to the original, but seeing as it was so disliked in the first game, they didnt really have that luxury either.

just put it down to bad luck i guess. but for me at least, this is a happy accident. you have a visual appearance that doesnt look so generic (it looks like old cole got a job in red faction armageddon for those who miss him)

and he has a voice that sounds like it could be a lot more emotive...not gravely-tastic ala all christian bale roles. win-win

You know I'll give you some leeway here because you're clearly having problems comprehending what I'm typing, so let's just pretend your snotty comments don't exist.

You're saying everyone spends 2 minutes on their hair? Guess what, Sherlock, that's what I'm saying. That's precisely my point. Cole looks like he's gotten ready for a fucking Levi's commercial, spending a damn stretch more time than 2 minutes on his minty fresh appearance. That's been my issue with this "pretty boy" version all along.

And yeah, buzz cut is the absolute lowest maintenance haircut you can POSSIBLY have. If you don't wanna spend time fixing your hair, that's exactly the kind of cut you go for. HEE HEE HILARIOUS LOGIC! LOL LOL.

God damn you piss me off sometimes.
