U never know Optimus. MS are partly financing Infinite Undiscovery so they might be doing the same for star ocean which would mean both would HAVE to remain exclusive.

In my theory, Microsoft gave up publishing rights for IU in order to gain FFXIII on their platform as well as some sort of exclusive deal for SO4. I doubt they are financing SO4 or have all-time exclusive though - probably 12 month exclusive window, like usually games with that sticker have. Probably Tri-Ace's engine on PS3 is in baby steps anyway.

It's actually kind of good :)

AI party members are a bit stupid at times and the time they take to heal can leave running around with 1 hp hoping not to be hit at times >.>, graphically it's not that impressive really, but there is a lot of attention to detail in terms of gameplay and little extra things like the crafting for example.

Some of the area's are massive, I normally like fill as you go maps but this one is really annoying you have to search every part just to fill the map for a tiny tiny area of a massive map, it really becomes quite annoying.

The equip menu could have done with a quick equip button there are a lot of characters to go through and this becomes quite time consuming, you have to make sure all characters have good armor because they will be used, perhaps not in your party but part 2 and 3.

As for slow down well, I'm not convinced its actually slow down, its more like stuttering, and only happens when characters use special moves, its kind of odd really, its not that annoying thankfully even though it happens constantly during battle.

I deffinately think ToV is guna have to wait til I finished this :P

5.5 hours in and I am really liking it, the story is quite unbeat at the moment, the emotion the characters show in cutscenes is really well done, a few of the cutscenes have been a bit akward acting wise, but overal its quite good.

It's impressing me a lot more than I thought it would.

Just got to a part where all characters break up into 3 parties in a huge castle, the castle is like a maze and the 3 teams are seperated by mesh like walls, you have to figure out how to get around the castle by passing orbs through the walls to other teams to allow them to progress through doors, when you find an orb that belongs to a different team you send a message pigeon to tell them and they will meet up with you at certain points, very impressed how they have done the puzzles in this game, you have to always be on the look out for items you can't see unless you use the flute to uncover them also.

It's kind of irratating later there are so few save points and the area's are so big that if you die you just feel like you have wasted 30-60 mins for nothing.

played about 7-8 hours so far, which i have a feeling is only scratching the surface, but im starting to enjoy it now, first 5 or so hours where pretty painfull, story started off slow as hell (as do all JRPG's), voice acting was, and still is terrible but i've got used to it now.

gamplay wise its a mixed bag...action wise its a pretty standard affair, 2 attack buttons, hard and soft, but its decent enough, reminds me a lot of crisis core combat wise, although im sure there are better comparisons out there. scale and feel wise it reminds me of FF12 in the sense that it feels like a single player MMO, MASSIVE areas with few save points and generally a very baron feeling game.

the main issue i have so far is the amount of running you do in the game. this is no exageration.... there was this one section where i ran for about 20 minutes without even coming across any enemies. and ALL areas are like that, there is needlessly long section of corridor, pathways, staircases etc that feel like they've been put there just to make the game longer.

another problem thats slowly becoming a bigger and bigger problem as you progress is the character management. the game has 12 characters (i think) and you have to micromanage EVERYTHING they have item wise. if you want to update everyones weapon, you have to buy each one individually, and then equipt each one to their respective memeber, same goes for head gear, body armour, boots and rings. you spent most of the time in menus making sure everyone is combat ready. all the game needed was an "auto asign" button, but i guess the devs wanted to increase the games length artificially. i mean, whats a JRPG if it cant tick the 40+ hour box.

overall tho im enjoying it, its not amazing, i wouldnt even say it was "good", but its enjoyable enough if you give it a bit of time (i was gonna stop playing about 20 mins in i thought it was so bad) if i'd have bought this i'd have been pretty damn dissapointed tho. but so far its been a decent rental.

Well I actually through it started off great and has headed down hill fast :O

Well perhaps I'm exagerating a tad, but my god the story is all over the place, you really have to give Tri-ace credit for thinking up the most bizarre storyline you can imagine.

The later levels get infuratingly difficult, and the save points are so far appart it makes you wana switch the game off out of annoyance (which I have many times)

I agree that they should have added a auto assign button for equipping armor and weapons, I have got to the point where I am just using the same characters (Capel, Aya, Rucha and Komachi) you should always keep Vic or Komachi in your party if you want to unlock chests and disarm trap. (seriously the stone trap can kill your party if you are all standing too close to the chest)

I am enjoying it, even though its difficult and the save points are far between it's quite challenging, I'm 15 odd hours in, at the last chain, although I don't think this is the end of the game, I hope not, Disc 1 was very short (6 hours)

I just died after fighting 2 really hard bosses with no save points, and the last save point was so far back ... Sigh ... damn this stupid game :(

One thing I didn't like about the story though was how Capel was the underdog and how everyone treated him like the child of satan, I mean whats up with these people lol, it really stops you from getting involved with the characters I thought, even now I still think they are a bunch of assholes.

I dont know where all the framerate issues come from. There are barely any framerate drops.

There a couple things that bug me a lot about the game.
--Creating food items are not worth it, You gain very little effects from them.
--MP wastes like crazy with the ai on "free"(the best mode).
--Spells/techniques take too long to level up; by the time you even get close to levling up you'll have a new spell/technique.

I would like to know how the game would have turned out with a big budget as FF.

Got the game on thrusday and have been playing it a little. I am having a proper sit down with it now. I am at the castle currently and I keep dying and I hate the fact that u have to start all the way back when some of the areas are just HUGE!

Still enjoying it very much so far :D

I didn't bother to read all the posts, but is the game alright? I watched the video here, the 10 minutes thing, and the animation was laughable but if the fighting works alright and it's as inventive as tri-ace games usually are i'll be happy. Also is there a option for japanese voices? The englis ones are horrendous.

I'll have bought the game before i have the chance to read any replies but still :P

Sounds like some bad design decisions. One of the better things about tales is that all the saves are pretty intelligently placed and generally prevent frustration moments like having to start all over.

Go into skills magic menu and turn some of their magic off by pressing Y, I set one as a healer spells only, otherwise you will end up dead fast.

You can turn characters skills off also, but it can be a pain when you hit a boss fight, It annoys me that you can enter the menu system but it doesn't puase the action, if your party members die you are pretty much screwed, as you can't stop and use items.

Very true. I suppose they just want people to really get into the idea of long travels and actually having to sit your party during travels and such.

so far i've had no issues in terms of difficulty or save points. the areas ARE huge, but i've found that there are save spots throughout, you just have to find them (i usually stumble across them by accident) im about 12 hours in now and im enjoying it more and more....despite the fact every part of the game comes across as average at best (crap voice acting, crap script, crap story, crap characters, crap character management, crap design choices, and basic combat). it could have been so much better. also, the side quests (usually involving rico and his ability to talk to animals) seem to be really illogical imo, makes me just give up and ignore them altogether.

but so far its been ok. i've played this more then i'd ever play a FF so far. i even think i may complete it, which would be the only square game since vagrant story.

Well as cool as sitting whilst setting your party may seem its really quite annoying.

What would have been cool is that you could regenerate health and mp whilst sitting, or rearrange party members at save points.

There are a lot of things which could have been done better in this game and I kind of knew it would be rough around the edges, It's about what I expected of the game though.

I don't understand how this game feels so rushed though, because its been in development for ages, I hope that Star Ocean 4 isn't going to be released in a similar state, spring 09 would be shorter dev time than IU, I guess its using the same engine though.

IU does some really neat things I have to admit the interaction with the other parties is quite cool and the puzzles are well done, the story is a bit strange and the cutscenes, voice acting and lip sync are awful at times though.

Korndog where abouts are you, when you get to the underwater palace you will see what I mean about the lack of save points, I found the spiders nest annoying also.

Even with almost all but a few on, it takes forever for a spell to level up. I'm already on disk 2 and I only have one spell leved up and it's volt.

I'm not finding a problem with dying, infact the game is too easy. The only time that I got the game over screen was when the bird steals the boy away.

Why wont the twins use their taming and summoning techniques but 2 characters will use their charm techniqes? It doesn't make sense.

I know it sounds like I'm complaining so much but the game really is great. Too many good things about it to type.

Ok I have reached the end of Disc 1 after about 9 hours of play and I must say I am really enjoying it so far. the combat system is a hands off system but I knew what I was getting so I am quite enjoying that too. Story is okay with a couple of very nice moments though and sad moments too.

There is not much control over all the skills of all the playable characters which is a shame really. the connect aspect is practically useless and there is absolutely, SO FAR, no need to bother about it at all. I am starting to see the IGN's review point of hacking and slashing yor way through - there is not much strategy involved and this is WHy I like turn based.

Bosses are quite tough though, graphics are sometimes very nice but most of the time, passable.

All in all, I am enjoying it very much though. Definately what I expected.
