My impressions so far (about 6 hours in) is that the graphics are VERY uneven, the voice acting is TERRIBLE, level design is frustrating, story is just a big "meh", the character building is dumbed down from brilliant games like SO2 and VP but the combat is pretty sweet.

So all in all i want to like this because it takes the gameplay conventions of jrpgs and throws them out the window, but unfortunately that's about it.

Previous Tri-ace games have been like freaking lighthouses of quality in a sea of muck, but this? Well, the combat is fast paced and what i do has an impact now, more than just rolling dice. On the bad end graphics shift from looking great to looking like something you'd see on a PS2, the voice acting is very uninspired and i really miss japanese voices, the story so far isn't anything special...while not exceptionally bad in any way i've seen it about one hojillion times already and now for my absolutely worst gripe about this game: Level Design.

Okay, so i find myself wandering through these HUGE and barren fields, getting lost and accidentally backtracking, not knowing where the fuck i'm supposed to go, just having to mow through an endless hoard of respawning enemies until my goddamn MP runs out and i eventually start dying. Maybe i'm a retard but i want a freaking direction to walk in in a game like this. I solely play to progress the story since i assume i won't be stumbling upon any side quests or inhabited caves around the place, oblivion style, but going from point a to point b in the world is just a pain. The maps are big but there is NOTHING to see anywhere! I just wish i could do a fast travel or something to get to the interesting parts.

All in all the combat and crafting makes this game stand out enough that i consider it worth playing as it's by far better than stuff like Blue Dragon, but really...game will be seeing a return of this one, that's for sure.

I'd say about 5/10, and that's with a REAL scoring system where 8 isn't the bare minimum of playable.

whats pissing me off most now is the lack of direction or information given to you. theres an area of woodland with lunar rain, and i was in this area about an hour before i noticed the place had a sort of direction system pointing the way. for that hour before hand however i was wandering aimlessly, warping all over the place when you reach these mist like portals, and i felt completely lost.

and all areas are like that, whether it be city hub sections where you have to explore everywhere to simply find a shop. or the large combat areas where your given no help as to where you suposed to go.

even the combat is annoying me a little now becasue the targetting is so slow to react, you can be slashing at mid air just cos the thing wont target the wasp thats right next to you.

and yet despite these problems i still enjoy playing it.

Yup I felt that way too, although It seems I have motored through this game compared to some others. (looking over at GAF and some of them have been playing it for 30 hours or more :S)

To be fair though Tri-Ace games have always been like this about exploring an annoying fill as you go map and havng no real direction to travel in both VP2 and SO3 were like this.

The misty walls in the woodlands had me stumped also, I just happened to get lucky and remembered where which one teleported me where, I didn't find it that bad though, its just one of those puzzles that has little logic.

It would have been nice for the city area's to have filled in maps so you could see where you had to go, and a quick button to the map would have helped a lot also, having to sit down to select map and then have the controls mapped back to front is just annoying :S

I do think the combat is very fun and it keeps you playing and remains fairly interesting, there is no chance I would have played this for 60 hours though, so I am glad it was short and sweet.

5/10 from eurogamer
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=23...

Read the review. he raises some valid concerns but the complaints about framerate are overly Exagerated. They are by no means game breaking. Also his comment about not being able to freeze gameplay when the menu is brought up, he actually said that the same was the case in Star ocean .... what a load of crap. in Star Ocea , you can freeze gameplay when the menu is brought up and IU should have had that to be honest. It's just hard to fiddle around in the menu when in intense combat.

In general, I do agree with the sentiment that the game tried to achieve so many things but failed to make any of them fuse into a compelling experience and instead we ended up with an average game.

Anyway, I am enjoying it very very much so far. it may have its flaws but something good is still underneath it all

well thats me done with infinite undiscovery, such a fucking badly designed game. i got to a section underwater city where its IMPOSSIBLE to buy any healing items, and there is only 1 save pioint which is before several "bosses" and there are non in between. i realise its getting near the end of the game and all that, but fucking hell. just as it was getting really interesting story wise as well (although all the "twists" where predictable as hell), but when you lose an hours+ worth of playing and have to fight all those boss battles all over again, it kinda kills your enthusiasm. so fuck it, its going back to lovefilm.

If you saved before you go into the underwater city you can run back and find a portal active to the north of the marsh, there is the ninja guy left of it also who will sell you items.

The underwater city is ridiculously hard, but only because its stupid.

its got nothing to do with it, the games always being a poorly made pile of shit (look at my previous posts), i just forced my way through it all...untill the underwater city of course. i wouldnt endure this sort of crap design in a fantastic game, and certainly not going to endure it in a completely mediocre one.

Ok almost 20 hours in and I am REALLY enjoying it. Lyp sync is a disaster though and it takes away from the immersion. add to that some awful awful lines which probably were just badly translated. Narrative is definately pretty good and the story is quite meaty.

The combat system could have been so much more. there are so many restrictions to party changes when in the battlefield. the secondary characters are pretty much useless because you never get to use them and you cant even put them in your party rendering taking care of the in terms of equipemtn and battle skills pretty pointless which is a real shame. Some of them are very compelling and interesting, Dominica, Savio for example and could have been so much more.

I finished the game yesterday after about 30 Hours and I really, really like it. The ending was a bit straneg and some bits of it were unexplained at all. The idea of the story was pretty good and overall the game is GOOD! an 8/10 from me.

Oh and those reviewers complaining about equiping your party. PRESS Y and your party member is autoequipped in a second!!!!!!

My biggest disappointment is that you cant put some characters in your main party at all meaning you dont get to see what their spells, skills look or play like. it also renders upgrading their equipment useless.

All in all a good game. those put off by the mere fact that it's just a JRPG should definately give this game a chance because clearly it plays NOTHING like a JRPG.

this game is worst rpg on 360 I ever played
ridiculous plot and characters, bad combat, stupid level design, bad animations, bad voices or no voices at all, and wtf? no pause when I go to "inventory" screen?
even trusty bell was better
I am so upset((((
good things - nice grafics and music sometimes

No way is it worse than eternal sonata. The game is pretty good, but I'm putting so much time into Tales (beat it already, but playing through it again) that I don't spend too much time on anything else.

I touched on IU for a bit, but not for any extended period of time. Tales is just really addicting. Best experience i've had on the 360 so far.

The story was actually just ok. My biggest gripe with the story is the ending. It had some nice parts, specially the truth about Sigmund and Capel. But the real ending sucked bad and it destroyed the overall plot for me.

Aya is a complete pain.

I thought the game was terrible. Earlier I said good things about it, but that was before I actually put serious time into it.

One of the most disappointing games I've played in years.
