I am playing this in small segments of 3-4 hours just like I played Assassins Creed which means something clearly isnt working in the game. Sands of Time, I finished in ONE GO! Combat is Fantastically done but bosses (which I actually quite liked in terms of character) are incredibly easy. Platforming is just a JOY to watch as well
It's such a shame really, Brilliant TECHNOLOGY (Graphics, animation, level design, soundtrack) is wasted on a repetitive receipe. I will finish the game and sell my copy on ebay straight away. I say, rent the game.
I will never get hyped up for a game ever again. This was my top title and it simple fell short of delivering, sadly. Let's hope the sequel, which clearly is inevitable, will address these issues but I aint holding my breath anymore.
I think Ubisoft has ONE BIG problem this generation and it all started with Assassins Creed .... the problem lies in the stupid phrase OPEN WORLD .... I say screw the open world! give me a linear game that's well orchestrated anyday. No wonder Splinter Cell went back to the drawing board and so is Assassins Creed 2 it seems and I hope Prince of persia will follow.

AC has amazing animation to animation switches, and whats weird about it is that the team who made the new POP and Sands of Time did the animation for Altaïr...unless I am wrong.
I played it a bit today again to see if I could sink in, but I just can't, boring as hell.
The combat is bad!
The attack animations take seconds to see them in action, but when the animation is done, it takes seconds to use another animation, no fluidness at all, which makes it bad and boring and unplayable at times.
Story isnt all that, doesnt pull you in.
One of the main reasons the story didn't do much for me is because its not about the prince at all, he is so unimportant in this game that it feels like he is the tool to you, not Elika.
Game be called "Princess of Persia" because Elika was the main character not the prince, and Elika being the only character to use persian language just proofs my point of how believe she was and the prince was not.
I am gonna return the game on Wednesday, such a huge shame for such a franchise to take such a hit.
What the hell was the reviews thinking of giving this game 8s and 9s?
Just to show you, you slap on a famous franchise title gives you high scores most likely.
There are better games out there with more content and such that gets lower scores, makes you think of how reviews actually think.
I did say I would wait for a few reviews (even though I dont care about them) for POP because I hesitated too much and I saw they were giving it 8 and 9 and such, so I said "what can go wrong, probably isnt what I think"...dumb reviews made me buy this game.
I seriously hope Assassin's Creed 2 has following...
Non repetive missions, more ways of doing the missions.
Skippable cutscenes and conversations.
The ONLY franchise I truly care from Ubisoft franchise is now Assassin's Creed, and I hope they don't fuck it up like they did with the new POP.
Just remove the bad things from the first game and make it better.
But whatever, a shame really, this game could be a epic next-gen Prince of Persia game, and with their new audience in mind it truly sucked.
*A New Form of Change*
I have never ever gotten bored playing this game. It is nothing like Assassin's Creed and to me it is even one of the two best games I've played this end of year (along with Tomb Raider). The sensations are great, the graphics are simply amazing, the game really makes you care about the two characters (at least that's how I feel) and the enemies are really classy The background of the game is also very rich and man, I just think this game rocks. :p
In short, however surprising it might sound to you, there is absoultely nothing I don't like about this game (except maybe the flying power which handles like crap). It sure could be a little more difficult but I'm having such a great time that I don't even care. I'm ready for a sequel, but judging from what I can read on the forums, it's not likely there will ever be one... Unless I am not alone. :(
No offense Sath, but Assassin's Creed both played and felt a lot worse than PoP. The combats sucked even more, the acrobatics were pointless in that it was even less challenging than in PoP (yes it's possible). The only things I liked about the game: the graphics and the historical background (though I think the story sucked, talk about a story that doesn't pull you in). I still managed to enjoy it but it's a game I sold the moment I completed it. Like I said, it all depends on who's playing the game. ^^
Je bannis, tu es banni, il est banni...
One ring of death to rule them all.
AC on the other hand I didn't find very good. It was just too big on the countryside (they could have left that out completly). The fights were really bad, the most effective way to win was to counterattack (because otherwise you'd get counterattacked all the time), and that's what I was doing all the time. The whole game was extremly repetetive, to say the least. PoP however picked me up at some point and it's getting better on every new level. The fights are good too, imo. It's not very responsive but it fits in the mood of the game perfectly.
I mean... Okay so you wanna make an accessible game and not be patronizing to first timers, fine. Make "Normal" rediculously easy and have "hard" be for those that actually wanna play the game.
It's one of the most fundamental truths about any game, that overcoming obstacles, being rewarded for your efforts is KEY. That doesn't have to mean Ninja Gaiden of balls-shurikenly satanic opposition, but it does mean risk/reward on the simplest level.
As recently as today me and my nephew played some Rainbow Six Vegas in co-op and decided to replay a few levels to restart using the "realistic" setting for difficulty. Because we're elitist assholes? Not really, but because there was no real reason to take it slow and be tactical. We sort of ran around gunning people down to left and right without communicating. That isn't stimulating, that isn't *fun*.
Different games can do this different ways. Mario Galaxy never goes nuts and redecorates your genitals, but there's the slightest sense of accomplishment woven into everything you do. If you spin around to knock out a goomba, there was the chance of not timing that right and instead being hit. If you thwirl up the stem of a flower, that's not just about pushing a context sensitive button once and watch it happen.
At every point in a game you gotta balance that sense of your participation against the hurdles the game produces.
So WHY not just fix AC by making guards kill you in one or two blows like they were meant to (said at one of the assassillion E3s that game was shown) and remove some of the stupid easy hiding places when the player choses "HARD" instead of "NORMAL". When did that stop being viable!? The result would be you running like a fucking nutter because guards would actually pose a threat, and getting away would be rewarded with yummy still aliveness and actually feel like it mattered.
In this game it seems like even less of an effort is required to make things more rewarding for players that know what they're doing, because Elika is essentially the sole.... cake... of which.. this.. is a walk.
I'm in the exact same position right now as I was when AC was out and I was equally disappointed by that game's critical reception. I ran out and got AC eventually and I'm sort of glad I played it.. but man it was dire. With this I really dunno what to do.
The irony is that now Assassin's Creed 2 has the opportunity to fix what I was sure this game would get right over AC.
Difficulty setting is your friend Ubi. You give us a rediculously easy open world BG&E2 and I will EAT YOUR HEARTS.
Various difficaulty setting, skippable cutscenes and conversations (fuck this shit was tiresome in both games), harder controls but still good.
If they dont fix these stuff in AC2 I have lost faith in Ubi.
But if they make a miracle of making AC2 in its own right then good.
I guess we will have to wait until AC2's reveal.
*A New Form of Change*
Sure, the games does not offer incredible cinematics MGS-wise, the editing is definitely not bold, it never feels like an action movie as in Uncharted. But the conversations offer a lot more than in other games, in terms of content I mean. It does a lot to add more depth to the characters. The players who don't use the on-demand dialog function are missing out.
I think you have issues with voice acting and dialogs in general. ;)
Don't get me wrong, I won't mind if the guys at Ubi decide to make the gameplay of the sequel deeper than it is now (by forcing the player to push more buttons to do things fro example, instead of simply making everything feel kind of automatic) but, contrary to AC, I have enjoyed every single bit of the game so far. I obviously hope that the sequels to both game will come with some improvements, but to me, they have more work on AC than on PoP. :)
Je bannis, tu es banni, il est banni...
One ring of death to rule them all.
If someone who wants to play the game again just for the fun part of it which is the gameplay, they should make us be able to skip the cutscenes and conversations...its up to the player, and its wrong to be forced on such things.
For example in Ninja Gaiden games, you cant skip the cutscenes unless you beat the game atleast one time, then you can skip them as soon as they show which I found is very cool of them to do so.
Obviously when someone buys a new game they want to see the cutscenes...etc. for the story and such right, but if they want to play again and they dont want to, they cant skip them, freaking annoying.
In AC the talking was so damn annoying and long that I wanted to shut off the game (on my second playthrough), but I couldnt, but once the conversations was done, I was happy again to go out and do my thing.

MGS4 is a interactive movie, so thats probably sealed to get it :)
*A New Form of Change*
They say they want to give the players authorship over their experience through the open world (this is the game's biggest problem, it renders the whole thing repetitive) BUT, but, but, give me athorship in the way I platform too, make me more involved .... Give me the choice to make the game harder through multiple difficulty settings.
One more thing ... WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PUZZLES ??? All we get are three simple, small and unimaginative puzzles which even can't be called puzzles at all!
All that said, The game is really not that bad, sometimes even brilliant. The characters are really likeable, the on demand dialogue is very well implemented (you get to learn more about the prince and Elika, the bosses and even the levels you are visiting). The characters of the bosses are very well made too especially the cuncubine. If only they made the fights harder ... watching the prince and Elika cooperate in combat is such an accomplishement. It's too bad this rather well thought out combat system is wasted on an easy game. This all takes me back again to what I said before "Fantastic technology has been wasted on a repetitive and annoyingly easy game"
There is some hope there for the sequel, these things are easy to fix. Please, pease, please do it right next time. Oh an Simon, I'll join the the hearts eating if they ruin Beyond Good and Evill 2. DONT TOUCH THAT GAME!

I purposely don't mention the game's flaws (I'm fully aware that there are some) because I wanted to point out the pleasure I've had to play the game. It's been entertaining and I'm really considering a second playthrough (I have almost completed the game, I only need to kick Ahriman's tree's ass ^^). :)

For me, the game is still worth buying at full price because of the experience it provides. I mean Ico was a bit short too and really not difficult and above all, there was no replayability, still not playing it would have been a huge mistake at the time. PoP is just the same to me. :)

Because if people going on about how easy it is simply refer to the way you get to re-do jumps with no punishment, then that won't bother me at all!
So the question is, to clarify; are jumps ever tricky? Have you guys actually borked a jump or a section of platforming?

it's still a wonderful ride and worth it just of the beautiful art/music/characters and the classy cinematic combat animations ...... that's rental worth though.
Honestly, I really dont know what to think when it comes to this game ... it's a mixed bag of Wonderful-ness and disappointment over its repetitveness/lack of challenge.

But like I said before, the visuals are so obvious of where you can jump and grab and where you can wallrun that you wont do much misstakes.
My "misstakes" for falling was because of the lightseeds, sometimes it requires for you to jump and grab them by then Elika helping you out.
You dont loose anything though by falling down, just getting back to the oh-so-called-checkpoint (last ground you jumpd to start your platforming), but thats it.
