By and large though, my 2008 gaming will still be done on the 360 and I would recommend that platform to anyone who wants to play games. Hardware is now reliable, it's a bit cheaper, library is excellent, cross platform titles will not be any worse and first party this year is not an order of magnitude worse than the PS3 to swing it that way. Apart from Home, Little Big Planet and maybe Killzone 2 there is not a lot I'm personally looking forward to whereas my 360 list is in double figures.

see thats whare im the opposite. ps3 this year completely demolishes 360 for me. where my list of "do want" exclusives dwarf that of the 360's 2 titles im looking forward to (SC: conviction and alan wake). my 360 will still get the most love in general simply becasue its my 'go-to' console for multiplatform titles (unless for some reason it runs better on the ps3, like DMC4 is rumoured too). but in terms of the exclusive titles that can make a system really shine, it is definately ps3's year. at least for me.

I can totally see how you would think that as well In fact, I'm sure many people will. 2008 seems to be a bit thin as far as MS exclusives go, especially from a business perspective but what they do actually have interests me personally a bit more than the PS3 stuff.

Again, it's my first playstation and all of my friends have 360's so I've little investment in existing franchises (like MGS, GT, Killzone) and it's very much my third party go to platform for lots of reasons.

Still we'll see. I have the nasty feeling that lots of games will slip on both sides this year so I'm expecting a bit of a drought post GTA:IV (assuming that doesn't slip in itself)

Sonys biggest problem this year, is they don't really have any decent exclusives until MGS in May or June and everything else got delayed and that makes it very easy to kill any momentum the got from the price drop.

Every start of the year, starting from the time these next gen consoles got announced, people kept on saying "Its the PS3's year!" or "The PS3 will overtake all competition!".

Well...Hasn't happened yet.

RAZ is correct. While the PS3 may have some anticipated titles up in the horizon, MS and Nintendo have price on their side. Any price drop from those two companies will slow down the PS3. I don't think Sony will be having another price drop soon considering Blu-Ray is actually making some headway.

I agree with FearThatMan (hehe).

I LOVED 360, but almost all the good games they had rushed quickly out without waiting for couple to conflict when MGS4 or Killzone 2 comes out or FFXIII, but no.

Ah well, I for one LOVE my PS3 more than 360 anyway, today just opened my eyes which console is better.

Mind you though, Microsoft isn`t going to go without a fight and seeing as the last TGS/GDC they never showed their hand for 2008, I suspect that A:) They haven`t got any new ideas and ran out of good things, or B:) They have yet to show what power lays ahead on their platform.

I seriously hope that it`s the latter though.

Yup, PS1 and Dreamcast came out around the time I discovered Beer and Girls at 16 so gaming kinda got put on the backburner around that time untill about 2002 when I played Halo...then I had an Xbox and occasionally played some Gamecube round a mates.

Asides from a few bouts of Soulblade when I was at college, didn't really get involved with Playstation stuff at all till I started my present job.

Both the PS1 and PS2 were great consoles with a huge games catalogue I'm sure the PS3 will come good soon.

my gf bought me a ps3 for xmas...its a really amazing piece of kit. spent alot of time on her brothers xb360 and i have to say there is a massive difference in experience...im really impressed with what sony has done with the console. it cost them alot initially, but in the long term its paying off big time. guess thats what you gain from long term planning

I do. But ever since these next gen consoles have been announced the 'fortune telling' has always been in favor of Sony.

In 2005, people were saying consumers will hold off on buying a 360 because they were waiting for the release of the PS3.

In 2006, people speculated that the PS3 will be the holiday winner and overtake the 360 / Wii in holiday sales.

In 2007, analyst said that the PS3 will overtake both 360 / Wii based on the momentum of the PS1 and the PS2.

Guess what...it didn' t happen.

I'm not going to discount there are certain things that appear in favor of the PS3 at the moment (MGS4 and Blu-Ray) but for me its too early to tell if the other two platform are just going to roll over and die while the PS3 tramples them on 2008.
