That's all. The internet can keep ragging on Adam Orth. It's good ammunition.
Inscrit depuis 6649 JoursThen this guy comes out, a senior MS employee and in an effort to defend his own work he throws out the most childish arrogant comments to the equivalent of "I know you are but what am I?"
It just smacks of a company so focused on a new market and so sure they dont have to bother with the people that supported them in the first place. It is like the 2005 sony E3 conference in slow motion spread out over a period of months.
Sure, he as a person is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but how much of it is bred out of the company he keeps and the place he works. Are MS REALLY that deluded that they just have to turn up and shovel shit in our face and we'll eat it?

Transcript of his and Jaffe's conversation 5yrs ago that got him trouble. http://criminalcrackdown.blogspot.com/2007/09/shit...
and 2, they really expect people to become that invested in the halo story?
i guess i just really dislike halo and that ad aint helping
Adam: halo = meh
Adam: well, i guess i have a different insight than you do having sat with veterans and taklked about their experience and how it relates to the games... [extremely douchey]
ADAM: fuck halo
This guy was a douchebag then, and is one now. He wanted David Jaffe to post that on his own blog WITH his full name. He thought he was being edgy and cool.

Microsoft: No! Why would you want that?
Customer 1: My back room in my house where I have my xbox, the wifi is spotty
Microsoft: well sorry we don't want you as a customer
Customer 2: My internet drops multiple times,
Microsoft: We don't want you as a customer
Customer 3: I actually have great internet, but I have a second xbox at my parents house I play when I visit, they go to bed early, and they don't have internet.
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer
Customer 4: This seems to be a form of DRM and I am uncomfortable supporting it
Microsoft: WE DEFINITELY don't want you as a customer
Customer 4's friend: Wait, I don't have a problem with DRM, but I have 3 kids in my home, each with their own xbox. I recently bought a Lego game and they each took turns playing it
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer unless you want to buy that game 3 times.
Customer 5: I buy used games from time to time, but I also buy new games.
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer, unless you only buy new
Customer 5: But some new games I buy with used money...and others I buy new after playing them used..like Gears 1 I bought used, but I bought Gears 2 and 3 new
Microsoft: We don't want that. We don't want you as a customer
Customer 6: I am in the military and play my xbox, but can't connect
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer.
Customer 7: SO the only reason always online is a form of DRM...
Microsoft: no comment.
Inscrit depuis 7469 JoursAnd, Grift, I don't need to "skirt" around the actual issue, because the "actual issue" of a required internet connection is a total non issue that doesn't seriously impact me, you or anybody else that has a fairly reliable enough internet connection that has managed to consistently keep us all online for the last 7 years without very much downtime, and in that same span of time Xbox Live has managed to maintain a very strong record of reliability. The biggest argument against a persistent connection requirement is all hypothetical in nature. Yes, we all know sometimes there are circumstances beyond people's control that may cause our internet connections to go off, but how rare are those occurrences? And in situations where things become serious enough for us to lose our internet connections, we also tend to lose power also, which would still mean no console gaming either way. So, people can fairly say how pissed off or fearful this change makes them (if it's even true at all, although signs are leaning towards yes), but if everybody is being honest in this discussion, we know full well how few people on this site would have seriously been affected by this if the 360 required a persistent online connection this entire gen. If there's one truth about the regular posters on this site or on gaf, it's that the large majority of us clearly have solid and reliable internet connections. We're a generally very well connected group and we rarely, if ever, have issues with gaining access to the internet. We have people with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of time in Battlefield 3's MP, and we are worried about a persistent internet connection? We aren't being serious.
And, Grift, I'd still take those games, particularly NBA Street, over any of the stuff Orth has worked on, unless I'm missing something. Turok really was shitty though. And, anyway, Josh now has a AAA with Halo 4, and it couldn't have been easy taking on such a position for one of the most famous franchises in gaming with all the pressure that had to be on him and the rest of that team. The fact that he pulled it out as strongly as he did is a compliment to both him and the rest of the team that he had helping him.

Inscrit depuis 6981 JoursFrom gaf, and probably the best, non-joke explanation:
'mandatory online is like forcing a variable into a formula that already works perfectly well...'
with consoles as they are right now, there's only one potential problem - hardware failure. but to the extent that it's the hardware that lets you play your games, it's a possibility you're willing to accept. so there's an upside (play games) & a downside (potential hardware failure)...
mandatory online offers no upside whatsoever. it only introduces a second downside - potential 'game over', owing to internet failure...
why would any reasonable person feel that it's a good idea, or no big deal, to introduce a feature that has absolutely no upside, but does have a downside?...
life's already full of unpleasant surprises. & it's reasonable people that prefer minimizing the chance of them happening :) ...
Inscrit depuis 7577 JoursBattlefield is an online game, silly. And it's certainly not as profound as an entire, online-only platform. This just shows your inability to understand this issue. Why don't you start making electricity and cellular analogies? And no, talking to Phaethon does not make your single player game an Xbox live experience.
Spin away. I'm not sure you're capable of grasping reality.

I think I might be missing some others. I have no idea why this person is suppose to be credible, but GAF is acting like it's somehow confirmation. Either way, not sure if true, but wouldn't want to get in the way of anybody's high standards as they are busy taking it up the ass (not my words) from EA ;)
But, hey, don't worry. Some of us here have principles and standards! LOL. (clearly joking btw, relax) The guy saying that I buy EA's bullshit probably has hundreds of hours in Origin. The irony.

Inscrit depuis 7577 JoursBF4 and Destiny wouldn't bother me much, since they're both more or less online-only games to begin with. But you don't get that. It's totally the same as an entire platform designed around online-only.
Assasin's Creed and Watch Dogs? That's pretty sour. But Ubisoft and EA are primed for this kind of BS. Not surprised. And not worried about missing either.
Inscrit depuis 7423 JoursUbisoft has been trying out different shitty DRM methods for a while now. They announced last year they'd abandon Always On DRM for PC, but said nothing about next-gen consoles.
Destiny is an MMO. Battlefield 4 is an online multiplayer game with some cutscenes that can be accessed at the start menu.
And this is very different from an individual game and an entire platform. For example Origin, only game I own that uses it is BF3, and if I'm playing that I'm going to have to be online. Would I ever buy anything else for it? Not likely, I don't like Origin.
Let the publishers try what they will, only way they'll learn is by failing, but mandatory Always On DRM is a death sentence. No other piece of tech on the market has this, so whose success are they attempting to emulate?
Inscrit depuis 7577 JoursI can play Steam games offline. I can play Android or iOS games without an internet connection. Crazy isn't it?
Optimus is also all about the reliability of Microsoft's servers. Mind you, he doesn't play online games or have Xbox Live Gold. First hand experience would tell you that reliability aside, you're still going to be the victim of the occasional maintenance. But hell, let's talk about reliability. Tell me, Phaethon, did Xbox Live always work for us when we were playing Halo 4? I can recall multiple instances where match-making was down for hours.
But hey.. Someone who doesn't even use the service thinks it's rock fucking solid..

Inscrit depuis 7469 JoursYou are a fanboy, full stop. Me? My favorite console this gen is the 360. There's no problem with that. Having a favorite doesn't make you a fanboy. Loving the PS3 doesn't make you a fanboy. Inventing reasons to hate the other platform/platforms and anything they have to offer, as you have consistently done on this forum regarding the 360, however? That makes you a fanboy. One minute saying what's off limits and terrible, then the moment sony seems to be confirming the same thing, you suddenly approve? That makes you a fanboy. Between the two of us, I'm not the one that has consistently gone around this forum trolling a specific console and its exclusives. I also own a PS3 and a Wii that I often buy games for when any grab my interest, but simply owning other consoles doesn't make you immune to a fanboy criticism. It's how fair minded you can be in your approach to the other systems, their games, and anything else they have to offer. I haven't needed to invent reasons to hate the PS3 the way you have the 360 or Durango on this forum. I've been extremely fair regarding ALL consoles on this forum, even the Wii and Wii-U, which can hardly ever seem to catch a break. People may not like how stubbornly I defend things that I like on this forum, but what can't be said about me is that I've somehow been jumping into threads for games that don't interest me in the least, and then badmouthing them based on the platform the game exists on, the way you are well known for doing. I mean, deny it all you want, but we've all seen it. So, knowing what you are like from experience, why wouldn't someone be extra suspicious of things you say? You're the same person that said once in criticism of anyone thinking about getting the new xbox, that it doesn't have any exclusive games. Who the hell actually makes a serious attempt to get people to NOT buy a specific machine? What is that? Now anyone can admit sony's first party is stronger overall, but to say xbox doesn't have any exclusives to offer, simply because you have chosen to ignore those exclusives that do exist on your least favorite plaform, that are solid games, that sell well, and that people are clearly big fans of?
In fact, my heaviest criticisms for any system on this forum has been for my favorite system, the 360 and its own exclusives, particularly Gears of War, which I think was nice in it's first outing, but was exposed in sequels. or the criticisms I've made about refusing to pay for xbox live gold, because I don't think it's worth it, and how stupid it is that we have to pay for some of the things that are free everywhere else, even on Windows 8. Hell, I'm a big Halo fan that doesn't think Halo's MP was ever as good as people were saying it was. I say that proudly and don't care. When I see something good or worthwhile on the PS3, I acknowledge it as such, and usually go out and buy that game. I'm a stubborn person that may defend something more than people think makes sense, but I approach every console fairly and with an open mind. I don't come prepared, waiting for an opening to say what I really want to say, which is to get in as negative a shot about the system or the exclusive game in question. You aren't the only person criticizing the next xbox, but of those doing so, you're the only one with as long a history of a negative agenda against anything remotely xbox. Defending always online doesn't make you a fanboy. If I had a choice between the two, would I prefer always online? No, of course not, because better to be safe than sorry, right? However, if they do go ahead with it, I just don't see it as this humungous deal breaker.
Grift may not be calling you on it now, because you're providing suppression fire, but he knows what you're about, just the same as I and others do. He has also called you on it before as well in far more straightforward and personal terms than I ever have, so I guess that means I'm not the only person that's childish. Did I miss something? Who said fuck off granddad? lol :P
Haha, and yes, Phaethon, a file was labeled in the demos section of xbox live, and it had the name blue dragon with the description for the game, with Sakaguchi's name included. I started downloading it and it failed more than a third of the way through. Is it really that hard to believe there was a fuck up on xbox live, because I know what I saw, and I don't play when it comes to Blue Dragon.
