E3 2014 though.. that was full of promise.

I imagine next year we'll see Halo 6, which shouldn't let the faithful down.

They learned their lesson though. I'm curious.. which lesson did MS learn?
When you look at XBO's initial showing on E3 you heard a lot about TV, always online, Kinect and wanted to punch Don Mattrick into the face. Since then they began focusing more on what the fans want. Dropped forced Kinect, added fan requested features on the OS, dropped always online, brought cross play and play anywhere, brought back-compatibility, resurrected fan requested franchises (Killer Instinct, Gears, Halo Wars, Phantom Dust), brought Gamepass (and EA Access earlier) and are working on more diverse exclusives for the system. Scorpio will enhance your old games as well, downample to 1080 or bring you real 4K and HDR and is compatible with all Xbox One acessories.
If that isn't learning your lesson, then I don't know :)
This E3 they only had few 1st party AAA games, but Xbox One X (god I hate that name) had a very good showing.

You said it yourself: they needed to show that X1X is the best place to play multiplatform games and exclusives. I don't think they achieved that at all. What fans wanted was more exclusive titles. Not exclusive launch titles or whatever that even means. I guess not announcing games "too early" is a lesson learned, but it doesn't turn not having anything compelling to show into a win. Consumers didn't demand a specsheet war.
The only people sold on Scorpio are people who were sold on Scorpio before E3.
:D
Personally I was expecting more new AAA IP. That I didn't see. Forza is amazing as usual and sure Metro Exodus is great but multi, Anthem seems to be what Destiny promised to be, but also multi. Ori and Minecraft in 4K didn't do it for me personally. So in terms of current games I think they could have done a lot better.
What I really liked was the mostly absence of aliasing when they showed X games. I will be able to live with that.
And as for Destiny and more of the same. If I recall correctly, your presence in the Destiny thread here on Gamersyde was mostly mocking. What has changed? But you don't need to... we all know what has changed ;)

Go ahead and try to dig up some embarrassing quotes. And Scorpio will not be the best place to play any exclusive or multiplatform title, considering they'll all be on PC too. Including releases from Microsoft Game Studios. Which I still can't be bothered to care about. Even though they're on PC too.
The games aren't there.

I really don't know what they're doing with 1st party, but the situation continues to get worse year after year. I'm starting to think that they simply don't think 1st party games are important.

I won't play FPS on console unless I "have" to, as I did with Halo.
A year from now they'll have a new Halo, a new Gears, a new Forza to show off. As predictable as these sequels they churn out are, it will at least give Xbox fans something to get hyped about.

My thoughts on the Microsoft 1st party situation is basically this: if you're only going to churn out Halo, Gears, Forza every year, then how exactly do you expect to build your playerbase, and get people talking about Xbox again? These games like Halo/Gears aren't getting more popular, they're selling less with each successive release. Why aren't you letting your 1st parties try new things? They'll stay in this rut until Phil green lights some new IP from his 1st party devs.
You know how hype it would be watching the Microsoft conference, seeing the 343 Industries logo, and a brand new fucking game that has nothing to do with Halo shows up and blows us all away? Pretty fucking cool. You know what's going to happen when we see Halo 6 next year? "Oh, they're making a new Halo, that looks alright."

That's not where great games come from.
