GSY Video PS5 Xbox Series X PC PS4 Xbox One

Like several others before it, DOOM Eternal got its free next-gen update allowing to play with ray tracing on consoles. We took our Xbox Series X version out for a spin to show you what it looks like, but as we thought when ray tracing was first shown in the game on PC, we do not think DOOM is the kind of game where you have the time to notice such details. We've also recorded some PC gameplay, in HDR and with DLSS Performance (DLSS quality worked like a charm on our rig but the capture with Mirillis Action! was too demanding). Check out the videos and let us know what you think, if there's still anybody alive in the comments. :)

The DOOM Slayer’s Saga comes to an end tomorrow with the release of The Ancient Gods - Part Two, the second expansion for DOOM Eternal that features new locations and new challenges. Trailer and screens after the jump.

Bethesda and NVIDIA have decided to showcase the benefits of the upcoming RTX 3080 in terms of framerate compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, the GPU we currently own. In a game like DOOM Eternal, needless to say it could make the experience even more satisfying in 4K. The images per second speak for themselves.

The first part of DOOM Eternal's story expansion The Ancient Gods was showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new trailer. Releasing October 20 free of charge for Year One Pass and Digital Deluxe edition owners, the DLC will also be made available as a standalone for $19.99.

As promised, we are now fully equipped to propose HDR content on PC thanks to Mirillis Action! which can now record such videos. Since we were sent a PC code for DOOM Eternal, we decided to show you how the sequel looks in HDR, despite the fact that this is now a DirectX 12 game. We recorded the following gameplay with all graphics options maxed out in 4K and we played with a gamepad (don't give us that look) in order to show some nice and smooth tracking shots of the scenery from time to time. Oddly enough, even though we were using a controller, we found gameplay to be much more dynamic on PC than on Xbox One X, so either it's more responsive or we simply got the hang of it the other day as we were recording the console gameplay. Anyway, we remind everyone that HDR videos are only available to download on the website, but will be up on our YouTube channel soon (just be patient so they are done being processed). Last but not least, you obviously need to own an HDR compatible TV to be able to enjoy them.

The embargo on DOOM Eternal's reviews is now lifted, but because we were only sent our Xbox One copy of the game yesterday, we didn't have time to write anything. As a compensation, we've prepared 2 videos showing bits of the first 2 missions on Xbox One X. Right from the start, this sequel is pretty challenging so you are likely to die a bunch of times in the sequences which have you face several waves of enemies for a given time. If you want to survive the game, you'll have to use the new mechanics wisely, as using the chainsaw will grant you ammo whereas shooting down demons or punching them to death will allow you to refill your life gauge. As for armor, a new tool makes it possible for you to burn down enemies which then drop armor (and even more if you keep firing at them). The only problem we had was when we found ourselves without ammo while the last remaining monster could not be attacked with the chainsaw, which was a bit tricky as the game never thought it would be wise to spawn trash mobs to avoid such a situation...
Update: Second video added.

GSY Preview PC PS4 Xbox One

It may have been pretty quiet here since we left 2019 behind, but we got to be invited to a preview event concerning DOOM Eternal not that long ago and we are now allowed to share the gameplay footage we recorded on site. Let's not beat about the bush, this sequel to one of the nicest surprises of 2016 is looking very promising, with new mechanics that make sense and the same overwhelming pleasure only the mass killing of demons from hell can provide.
Note: We are sorry but the following footage was recorded in French as it was the language set up by the publisher for the preview event.

The first 2 months of 2020 may be pretty quiet on terms of big releases but don't forget that some highly anticipated titles are coming, among which DOOM Eternal. We have recently been invited to a preview event and should soon be able to share some of the gameplay footage we recorded at Bethesda's Parisian headquarters, but until then, check out the new trailer inside.
