GSY Video PS4 Xbox One PC

Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 in native 4K on PC is not a piece of cake, even if you own the best graphics card and best CPU of the market. The game is very generous when it comes to graphics settings, but Rockstar included a bunch of presets to choose from. We gave the balanced preset a try to see if it would allow us to enjoy native 4K and a perfectly smooth framerate (some options are even set to low on that preset, among which lighting quality). In gameplay, it is pretty much the case, except for some close-ups during the muddy and rainy fight against the colossus outside the saloon, but cutscenes see a few frame drops. We only had time to try the preset in Valentine and in the wild so we're bound to encounter areas where framerate will suffer, but what is certain is that playing in native 4K offers much crisper background landscapes compared to playing with an 80% resolution scaling and most settings set on high and medium (and a couple on ultra).

We're back with the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 and a mix of ultra, high and medium settings this time. We also set resolution scaling to 80% so it's not native 4K anymore but at least, the framerate seems rock solid for now. We'll keeping searching for the best possible settings with the best possible image quality, so stay tuned.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on PC but those who thought they were going to enjoy high frame rates with ultra settings will have to think twice before they launch the game. You see, this port has clearly been built for the future and as Nvidia stated yesterday, it's demanding as hell if you want to push everything to the maximum. We've tried the ultra settings with a 66% resolution scaling and our RTX 2080 Ti struggles to maintain frame rate above the 40s at times when some effects kick in. We'll need more time to tweak the settings to find the best results for us, but until then, here are 2 videos we recorded tonight.

Red Dead Redemption 2 patch 1.09 brings a new HDR display mode called "Game Mode", supposed to modify the rendering of the game compared to the old "Cinematic Mode". The difference is indeed visible and here is a video captured on Xbox One X, as usual in 4K HDR.

You've already watched our Red Dead Redemption 2 videos on Xbox One, here is now the PS4 Pro version, in 4K of course.

While our PS4 Pro footage of Red Dead Redemption 2 should arrive shortly, we have a bit more Xbox One X gameplay to offer. Inside, you will find a bunch of videos showing some of the secondary missions and a little stroll during which we ran into a certain klan. Enjoy the 4K content and happy Halloween to you all!
Update: One last XB1X video added, focusing this time on the beautiful landscapes of RDR2.

GSY Video PS4 Xbox One

Red Dead Redemption 2 is clearly one of the most impressive technical achievement for this generation of consoles (except on the OG Xbox One...), but there is one disappointing thing about it: its HDR mode. It's of course there, and it's even possible to calibrate it somewhat, but at its best it doesn't really had much, and I'd say that at its worse it makes the image slightly less believable than without it. You'll be able to see how it looks through these 3 videos from the first 30 minutes of the game, captured on Xbox One X. We are also finally moving to a fully HDR capable editing and encoding toolchain with these videos, so right now our "intro" looks way too saturated. Everything else should work normally, and as usual we recommend copying the files to a USB thumbdrive and playing them on your smart tv, or even using Youtube.
Update: Added one last video, just because I found a way to fix the intro colors :)
