Far Cry 2 Thread

Well the game is coming out like in days from now, so I decided to make a thead for it so we can talk about general stuff about Far Cry 2.

I think it looks very cool and all, but I have to be careful of what I buy because of some money shortage.
After so much 3rd person I need variety so I need heavy FPS games.

The gameplay is a sanbox game so its great, approach the mission how you want.
You can take some sleep to pass time for the night to come to go sleathly, or do it during the day.

But the day cycle changes so you need to make that count, make your missions more thought out.
For example, wake up 6 in the morning and then got the entire day to do your busniess.
Day cycle and weather changes is important in Far Cry 2.

The healing is something I find is very awesome, really adds the punch between you and the avatar you have chosen.

For example, you get heavy damaged from a explosion and you could risk getting a piece of metal hit you on your waist and you have to pull it out.
Or if you get bullet in you for example the arm you remove it and burn the wound to stop the bleeding.
There are like 60 animations with this, really adds to the brutal side of the game.

Then there are medicine you have to take against malaria...there are shots and pills. You must buy or get medicine to stay healthy. Now I dont know what happens if you dont take your medicine, but I think its not gonna be good.

The weapons...well there are tons, but one thing I don't like about it is that there is no M4 Carbine or G36C! *sad face*

But there are other awesome weapons to play around with, like molotov, flamethrower, Gustav rocket launcher, machete.

There are also various version of machetes, from real ones to customized ones, like from a vehicles.

The weapons will play with you, they will jam, so you need to clear those jams. Or if you wear the weapons out too long they will get rustier and "broken" and they will break in your hands, and if you are in a intense firefight, if those things happen you are screwed.
So make sure you pick up healthy weapons from the enemies.

There are alot of thing I like about this game and its concept and that why I want to pick this game.

The intense firefight, the punch the weapons have and the brutality that it gets, and the healing.

One thing that alot of people seem to be very interested in is the map editor, now I have seen alot of videos of it, and it seems very fun and fast to do, unless you want to make a real professional map.

Now this is Africa, but you still can get that Crysis/Far Cry tropical jungle if you want.
If I buy this game I know I will play around with the map editor to get that jungle warfare and blow stuff up and burn alot of things.
Plus the weather changes is great, really adds to the atmosphere and the fire, which seems to be one of their important gameplays.

Obviously there are characters, no Jack Carver as many of you know.

9 characters to choose from, each being very different, 3 unlockables...2 being females and one being secret.

You pick from the 9 or 13 characters and the rest of them well be AI...as a buddy or as a nobody, you are not forced to take the missions they give you, but you need their help if you are down, so you need backup.

The multiplayer aspect seem to be your typical one as usual, with 2 special modes.
The multiplayer video will be linked so dont worry.

For those who care, PS3 will have trophies, so don't worry they haven't forgotten you.
But other than that, all versions will be the same in terms of gameplay, visually well, thats another thing.
Between PS3 and 360 they seem to be identical, but with PCs they are better. I personally will pick up the PS3 version.

But in the end, the game looks amazing on consoles and very amazing on PC (obviously).

PS. All the high res videos on IGN truly shows the visuals while the ones from GT is washed out crap (HD my ass).
One Man War is a must watch from IGN, looks amazing!

But like I said, I am gonna be careful because I am gonna buy Resistance 2 next month so that is a must for me until Killzone 2 (what can I say, I am a sucker for sci-fi FPS games).

Of course it is 23 minutes posted after the most recent update in the Far Cry 2 thread right below :P But since that is a mix mash thread that started off about the game editor and Sath obviously put a lot of work into this thread and working on it while the other was updated from 3 pages down... Yeah the other thread is various, and I thought having a "official" one to have everything into one thread and have a discussion about the game even when its out is a good idea.

I am sure the other threads will go lower and lower by the time the game is out and beyond.

Now this is the closest title the consoles can get to Crysis, but I still want that sci-fi/modern theme, so I hope Crytek make Crysis for consoles.

So as far as big world FPS, this has to do, and to be honest so far it looks very great.

Also, I read that Ubi is planning on DLC after the launch, it didnt say what it was but Pier from the dev team said something like "its f****g great".

One thing I want as DLC is vehicles and weapons, missions.

Its Africa right, it means alot of off-road...dirtbikes and motorcycles in general, would be awesome.

I want weapons like G36C, M4A1 Carbine...only weapons I would use in terms of assault rifles.

And then extra characters for extra missions.

And more multiplayer modes, so far i think there is 4?

But we will see what their plans are, hopefully they support the title alot as DLC.

I can't believe that Ubi haven't added choppers in FC2.
I mean, not flying it but actually fight against it with machine guns, rocket launhers...etc. would be great.

But so far Ubi have said there are no air vehicles, maybe they meant useable.

Far Cry 2 + Fable 2 = Not getting a lot done.

The first thing I am gonna do is go to map editor create a huge jungle with big leaves and bushes and trees, and then add tons of explosive barels, RPG, molotov, anything that will go BOOM and start burning and then I will switch to night and watch the visuals in awe.

Then its SP time.

By the way, there are no predator animals in the game (shame) and from what I understand is that you can't kill animals.

I hope we can kill animals, go long range with a powerful sniper, and shoot them.

I personally would say get it on PC if your PC can handle all settings high and maxed out because games like this is only good like that.

I guess its up to the individual to decide what they prefer, PC or consoles, controller or keyboard/mouse.

this is game that is up in the air for me atm. i like the look of it, game looks great visually overall, but i cant shake the feeling that if i do buy it it'll surcome to what i like to call "open world syndrome", where you have a big expansive environment with either very little to do, or very repetative things to do. need to see more reviews tbh. so far it looks like one camp assault after the other.

I imagine that the choice of control is still up to the user on the PC version. I mean, Crysis even has default controls for gamepads, and that was without an immediate need (or demand) for such support.. so I bet Far Cry does, as well.

I'm on the fence on this one myself. I think it looks okay, but not better (and I'm not just talking about graphics) that the game that it's bound to by comparison (you really can't avoid it). Sure, it's more of a sandbox FPS than any other game, sure it's less linear, etc.. but is it fun? The games pacing and action can't become a backseat priority to environment. Pretty, burning set pieces won't save this game from itself if the fight sucks.

I guess I'll have to base my decision on peoples impressions, including reviews, which I often value more than forum impressions. A demo would have been really nice. There's no reason that you can't make a demo for a sandbox game, it's been done before.

Chances are it's the next new release I play.. by chance immediate after Crysis Warhead.

Grift, yeah the PC gamers can hook up controller, that is actually how I played Crysis at my cousins PC.
And as you said, maybe Far Cry 2 has the same thing to go at it.

From my understanding, the game is suppose to be around 50-60 hours of gameplay, and that means unlocking and finding everything.
Side missions, weapons, diamonds...pretty much everything the game has to offer.

Now I know when they estimate a time like that it depends from player to player, so I wouldnt say all players will take that long.

In terms of demo, from what I heard, there wont be any because they don't want to put "wall" on the map for a demo.
I say BS on that to be honest, they can easily add a small map and then write in the end of the demo how big the map in the actual game is and show a good trailer of it.

But all in all, I seriously want to play Crysis/Warhead than any other FPs out there (except Killzone 2), because the modern/sci-fi of it is just good, and the huge scale of the game is nuts.

I guess I have to keep wishing Crytek does some sort of a Crysis title on the consoles.

Besides, with Crytek showing Cry Engine 2 running on consoles on some event, I am sure a game like Crysis but a bit "dumbed down" would work on consoles.

Anyway, so far I am just waiting for Far Cry 2, and take one step at a time of what I want and don't want.

In terms of fun, well from all the stage demos, and trailers...etc. it looks (for me atleast) a very fun game, alot of ways to approach a situation.

Well my second and last Sixaxis got busted by my uncles kid (long story), short in short, I have to take FC2 off my buy list and add a DS3 controller and buy R2 (which was more important than FC2 for me anyways). Good thing I got a few giftcards from my trading games so I dont have to pay for a DS3.

So much for plans *sigh*

I will probably be in the R2 beta that starts soon so I am not gonna be gameless until R2 comes out :)

I just pre-ordered this today. Looking forward to playing it at the end of the week. After all the positive press around Dead Space, I kinda wanna get that as well. There are so many games right now....it's awesome.

I think it shows what I think will be this game's weakest link--which could even break it completely. I know it's just an animal, non-essential AI, but it did show a very rudimentary level of AI. Basically, the AI was given a very limited path with no more options. It's pretty much a very narrow line they can't get through, instead of a big area.

I expect to see something like this--maybe not as bad--for the AI soldiers. The videos have shown bad AI, but they are PR videos (controlled), when it goes in the wild it will show its true colors. We'll see.
