Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)
Loakum By FAR, the upcoming Game of Thrones King’s Road was the Game of the Show! It plays like God of War Ragnarok! :) (> 3 Months ago)

The game, in many ways, reminds me of other sandbox experiences. The plot seems to have been sacrificed for a more open experience. I'm not sure that will bother most, as narrative often takes a back seat to action in this genre.. but it's worth noting that even Crysis has a (much) more interesting story.
The performance, so far as the games visuals are concerned, is very good. It runs on average a good deal smoother than Crysis, but it's also worth noting that the game looks significantly worse than its rival. On "Very High" (note: I have not tried Ultra, but I do think it would run well on this PC @ that setting.. so I'll report back on that later) it looks great, but Crysis actually looks nicer even on "High" (or "Gamer" if you're playing Warhead).
Lets get unfair comparisons out of the way first: In terms of gameplay (movement + gun play + weapons) Crysis > Far Cry 2--In terms of story, character, and appearance, Crysis > Far Cry 2..... and now that we're done with that, I'll try to focus on the game's strengths (of which there are plenty) in my next post.
Mods, stop changing my SIG! I'm going to end up banning you!
Not bad. Let's try the benchmarking tool. It's so obvious by the folder structure, size, and general appearance of the game world that there is FC1 engine code floating around in there. That's not a critique though. COD4/5 has Quake 3 source floating around.. so what?
My gallery is missing a good night shot.. and yes.. the map is enormous.
The ambitious nature of the game almost reminds me of a more interactive (but less.. multiplayer), shooter version of Test Drive Unlimited. The defining difference here is that the game is actually extremely polished. The gunplay, while I wish it were bit deeper is tight. It's not the defining characteristic of this game, and perhaps a bit of a fault, really, but it's solid enough to entertain the idea that each conflict is filled with action.
It's light on direction, it has a cheesy, chiseled from cliche plot.. and the narrative is even worse.. but it's a pretty damn good game anyway. You can get lost in its world. Fighting your way back to Mike's Bar, only to be sent across the entire map for your next mission seems almost tedious, but it's fun.
It's still far from my favorite FPS I've played this year. But it's pretty unique (also note: so are a handful of other 2008 FPS) and it's easily recommendable.
I'll still say.. I honestly think Crysis is a better game (right now, at least), but it's comparing apples to oranges, really--well, apples with guns to oranges with guns. This game offers up a take on the sandbox action genre with an action FPS flair and that's enough to make it really stand out.
Oh, and it seems long. I'm 5.5 hours in and less than 10% done.
Kudos.
When this is coupled with enemies that can take a million shots before they go down, it can get a little frustrating.
I'm sort of hoping this is something I can get used to, and doesn't become the major detraction from the game.
BTW, graphics are pretty kick ass. The sunsets are jaw dropping. And the game froze on me the first time I played, within 1 minute of actual gameplay (after intro).

I swear I have shot some guys way too many CLIPS and they just won't die. Sometimes they fall but they are still alive and it just never ends.
So, I think that is my main gripe with the game. Other cons would be the AI (which surprisingly it isn't that distracting), and the LONG travel times, especially when you realize that your objective is behind a huge rocky hill that can't be "climbed" so you have to go all around.
Having said that, some weapons are extremely satisfying to use, and anything that causes an explosion is always awesome. Any sniper is my favorite thus far. Graphics are top top notch, probably the best looking FPS on consoles this gen. Overall I'm really liking it, it is addicting so far and supposedly the first few hours are a bit slow.
I'm 12% in, and 5 hours or so. Done a few side missions, but have tried to keep to the main "story". If you like shooters, I don't see how you wouldn't like this, I think that is all it comes down to.

I saw different scope's in some pictures but wanted to know if there's more to customize......
"Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing. "
The story doesn't keep you invested in the experience--the gameplay doesn't even keep you invested in the experience--it's just.. an experience. There's so much damn ambiance (note: Soundtrack blows, I'm playing with it off), you could, and will.. get lost in it. My current motivation is simply to better equip myself. My only fear? That it might get repetitive after a while.
But you can get some weapons with silencers and scopes that you couldnt do so before, but they cost more or something.
*A New Form of Change*
This game just keeps getting better and better. There are so many things I wish were included in this game--so many things I find either missing, or childishly simple in their execution--yet what is included is just so damn polished that it's hard to hate on.
I just had one of the coolest, most random things happen to me. I was approaching this camp, sporting a pretty heavy population of baddies. I figured I'd make some noise, and start a few fires before things got too heated. So I find this propane tank, and hurl a frag in its general direction. As you might expect, both explode, sparking a pretty gigantic brush fire. So what was unexpected about all that? Well the propane tank was sitting next to a case of ammo, which promptly started exploding in the fire. "POP! POP! POP! POP," exclaimed the ammunition.. as tracers shot off in every direction.
What a show. Good f'n game.
Are there scripted events where buddies must die? Read on...
I just finished the mission where you have to ambush a supply car in the train yard, and your buddy (Warren, in my case) attacks the supply train on its way into the station. By the time I get to Warren, he's dying. I tried to revive him, and injected him with several shots of morphine... but he ultimately kicked the bucket anyway. Could I have saved him if I got there sooner... or is was it just Warren's time?
Maybe someone knows. It's currently holding me up a bit.
The game is kindof useless if I cannot even bind the movement keys I want to use..

You have to go to your "options" while in multiplayer and hit "default" then re-map them. HOWEVER!
DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN "mulitplayer" as it will reset your keys back to "wasd"
Silly bugs. Who Q&A tests this shit?
It still bothers me that I can't change crouch to hold and zoom to toggle.. but whatever. I'm still having fun with the single player portion of the game. It's far better than I had expected, having negative expectations :)
I still worry that it might get repetitive. The big criticism I see relates most strongly to the respawn rate at enemy checkpoints. This in itself does not bother me, as I was concerned that there would not be enough action. This game could seriously use an Oblivion-like fast travel system though.
I could go on all day about Far Cry 2's flaws, but.. I won't.. because it rules.
I think I figured out my problem stated in my previous post BTW. There seems to be a limited number of times that you can revive a buddy. I think Warren may be permadead. Bummer.
Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been five years? Six? It seems like a lifetime.
The PC version controls fine... for the most part. The fact that you can't change toggle/hold options for certain inputs is almost insulting. Call of Duty still gives me this option, and it's just as much of a "console" game as Far Cry 2! Well, no, it's not.. and that's the problem. It's a pretty weird mix, really. The game design is console first--the technology is PC first. What gives?
The mouse movement seems a little jittery too. It hasn't really effected my accuracy, but I have noticed that single pixel movements can be a little more difficult than they should be.. or than they are in other games. It's especially noticeable in the game's menus, where the cursor seems extra-not-smooth.
I wouldn't want the game to feel like.. well.. another game. I'm fine with how the gunplay functions. I just wish I could toggle to zoom. Other games give you options, that's all I expect! I sort of model all of my FPS controls after the default input for BF2 (except for crouch).
So far I'm pretty satisfied with the PC version. The game has pretty awesome performance for an Ubisoft PC release. I guess the engine's heritage doesn't hurt. I'm running it @ 1920x1200 + Ultra + 4XAA, and it's pretty smooth. My first batch of screenshots lack AA.
PS. Halo has different sensitivity for the X and Y axis too, I'm pretty sure ;P
I'm waiting for my 360 copy, should arrive begining next week. from your comments what is making me not so positive is the enemies taking lots of damage. that's so bloody anoying. It's also like this in BF: bad company (MP) that i found it a bit difficult to get adicted t the game because of this, whereas if you compare this to CoD which seems to have the perfect amount of damage not to make it frustrating (for the one getting killed) and at the same time super fun (for the one shooting). BF: Bad company just feels you're like 2 minutes unloading a clip before the guy dies, even with a LMG...just no fun (well, unless you have a sniper pistol, then it's just one or two shots lol). well, but it drift from topic.
Curious to see the game...

I had a hell of a lot of fun with the map editor yesterday. It's instantly familiar to anyone who used the one in FC: Instincts but also adds a ton of new helpful features. People made these insane levels for Instincts which were essentially giant obstacle courses with varying degrees of difficulty. I can't wait until people make some for FC2 as they were a ton of fun. Some of them were so well designed despite a very limited and glitchy map editor.
PS- Which is exactly why I used COD as an example. I'm actually not a fan of the aiming in Halo.

And well, the editor is unlike ANYTHING ever on consoles as far as I know. It's like a garry's mod only you can't create new objects, but you can form geometry, etc etc, so it is different editor. This is an actual map creator basically.

The single most important thing that the PC version offers over its console cousin? Quick save. I can't imagine playing this game without it. The safe house system could work, but given the number of encounters I've had where something just goes wrong for no particularly good reason, I think I'd find it maddening.
Well.. that and my mouse and keyboard ;)
I'm hoping for some mods.. hopefully.. sooner than later. Someone needs to rip off Oblivion's fast travel, and give me more input options! Give me a prone stance, while you're at it.
Other than that, I'm glad to hear the positive impressions. Have you tried out the PC version of the map editor Grift? Is that something that interests you?

This is pretty well optimized runs amazing on my new PC.
Gameplay is quite fun, firefights can be quite intense sometimes, and fire rules :P
I was amazed how big the map was, and today reached a new map with the same size :o, quite big game. Awesome sandbox FPS :)
I was afraid of geting it, but it didnt disappoint me. Its lots of fun.
I was just expecting more animals :(, feels very empty the world.
Theres bit too much driving, but we can use the buses to fast travel, and we can always avoid the guard outposts to dont delay our trip. :p
Really enjoying it.
