I understand. However I still think some reviewers are just being picky and incredibly intolerant with the game.

I guess some would be happy if they released a patch that gave the possibility to tweak the gameplay (so we can have something less forgiving timing-wise- for the jumps for example).

Dont get me wrong, I like their titles, AC and POP franchise alot, but they rarely do good contents or fixes on their games...so I have heard.

I'm not even under the impression that reviewers are intolerant, on the contrary they miss things to tolerate. The game seems so apologetic in its design, all sense of reward is gone.

I loved King Kong.. like.. I really loved that game to bits. I don't mind that that game essentially didn't have you do all that much besides throwing sticks at various things. King Kong was a visual journey more than anything, and climbing up to Kong at the end of the island bit was freaking amazing (I thought).

Now, I could have gone into Assassin's Creed with that mindset and I might actually have derived some pleasure just from how convincing the cities were and the absolutely INSANE tech and sheer effort behind it all. But that's just it, it wasn't what I was looking for in that game.

This new Prince of Persia had my complete faith for one major reason; Sands of Time is fucking epic. It's easily one of the best games (ie. gameplay!) last generation, and its biggest hurdles were emo prince, emphasis on one-note combat and blood stains in its somewhat mistreated sequels. With trailers of this one showing a GLORIOUS return to form in terms of atmosphere and the general fantastical motif, I thought for sure we were home free.

So imagine my utter devastation when I hear that the thing that fundamentally made Sands of Time so fucking awesome even stripped of its superficial qualities is essentially reduced to Wii Sports-esque "slight suggestions" from the player.

I mean, I'm sure going into this new game with the right expectations - and I can even rationalize the decision to make this something everyone and their dog can play - has you set up to enjoy it thoroughly. My problem is that the thing I wanted this to deliver, at some point it stopped trying to deliver that and the target audience shifted.

I can be excited for this in a brand new way, in a way that it's something I'd recommend for my brother who just can't deal with the precision jumping and puzzle solving involved with the old ones. He'd really enjoy the setting and visuals and the sense of adventure here, because it'd be his introduction to this type of game.

For me, I was counting on this for my super sharp platforming fix, but I guess it's the prince of another audiences' persia now.

I'll pick it up eventually when my disappointment wanes. Right now it's full steam ahead for Valkyria Chronicles, Banjo and Tomb Raider Underworld.

I finished the game, the closer to ending, the levels became cooler, longer to the platforming, and the ending for the story was pretty cool.

And the music was great against some of the bosses in the end really nice, especially when you require a new Elika platform power, so Inon Zur did great on those tracks.

But I checked to see if there was ANYTHING new, and guess what nothing.
All you could do was to start a NEW GAME and begin from start.
And not being able to skip the cutscenes is a pain, would ease the long wait and faster to the fun stuff.

But replayvalue in this game is zero, only thing it got is trophy/achievement, and I am not one of those collectors.

Returning it as soon as possible.

Good first time experience though, but thats where it stops,,,for me anyways.

I have to agree with Sath here. I'm about 1/2th into the game, I like the vistas very much, I also like some of the platforming, the tower was very cool. But it's very Assasins Creed'ish, you do the same thing over and over again. And just like in AC there are no plot turns untill you eventually reach the end: There is story at the beginning of the jurney and hopefully at the end... in between all you do is jump around and fight... and talk a little (which is very well done, imo).

I can't quite put my finger on it, but PoP seems so refined and polished that they forgot to put in some edgy stuff. There are puzzles and they are well done, but that's not enough imo. I miss some twists and turns in the story, everything is planed trough, there is nothing unexpected... as of now anyway.

Alright. I have not been able to sit down properly with the game since I got it. I only played about 1-2 hours and I have to say that FOR NOW BASED on What I have played which is 2 hours tops, that I agree with the general sentiment in this thread. The game offers LITERALLY NO CHALLENGE AT ALL!!

This is such a BIG BIG BIG shame because everything else is TOP NOTCH. I will report back tomorrow when I have played more but so far the lack of challenge is honestly incredibly annoying. Never in my entire life have I played an easier game.

This was the TOP GAME on my list for this year and these first few hours have disappointed me a bit.

Let's how I'll feel when I finish the game.

Alimo, it will change a bit within the game towards the end I give you that, but dont expect anything "whoa, what a transformation in the gameplay".

What you get in the beginning is what you get in the end...gameplaywise.

I wish I had your way of thinking for this game Alimo.
Some parts of the game were the platforming is so damn long that it gets intense is great, wish they had tons of those things.

Kind of like in Warrior Within when Dahaka starts chasing the prince and you have to move quickly without thinking.

One way to make this work in the new POP would be like corruption is starting to take over a healed spot again, but it is starting to chase you by surprise, so you have to quickly do some platforming if you miss like 2-4 seconds of anything you will die.

I guess chases would be great.

Ubi could even add something like DICE did with Mirror's Edge.
Some sort of a time trial with a loooong platforming, you cant touch the ground or die, if you die Elika wont save you to your last platform, you have to start all over again.

Or a mode were you fight all the corrupted enemies and bosses in row without any break.

Things like this would make POP have some replayvalue which would be great.

I decided to keep it a bit longer, who knows, a miracle might happen with me liking it.

PS. I tried the skins.

Altaïr looks great as usual, but I dont understand why they kept the princes ugly hair and face, annoying.
But a cool skin non the less, which I use more than any other skin right now.

Classic Prince...well its classic prince model with the new face attached, again, why the face!?

Farah...Elika looks better with the Farah skin and hair, I prefer that one.

Jade...Didnt try it, dont want to.

There is one single unkown skin for the prince left and one for Elika, yet to be known.

If Ubisoft could make the cutscenes and conversations skippable I would forgive them.

Okay here is something very interesting.

One member in the PoP community forum said that Elika speaks persian/farsi in the game.

Now on my first playthrough all the "magic" stuff she uses, she usually speaks jibbers, but after that person in the forum said she actually says a few words in farsi I had to check it out.

I did, and it is in farsi, I as shocked.

I cant believe I didnt notice it, the accent is very heavy so it was a bit hard for me to notice.

I am persian myself (my real name even means prince in arabic), this is very cool of them to add this.

For example if you use the direction magic she uses words like "nigashkon" which means "look at it" or "in ra dorosteh" which means "this is the right way.
But then she sometimes uses a bit more complex farsi which I am not familiar with, but my mom understood them.
Elika has also a pretty heavy accent when saying it so its a bit hard to understand it sometimes.

Too bad the prince doesnt say a few words in persian, he is gimped :P

I havent tried the platforming powers though, she usually says stuff when using them, even when she is about to heal a ground.

Anyways, cool stuff they added, thought you guys should know what she was saying, if it was fake language or a real one.

That's very good to know Sath. Thanks. SO far so very good, still enjoying the game very much and to be honest I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with the prince's character .... the voice fits in extremely well, remember he is NOT a PRINCE in the game, in fact he's a mess of a man!

The only reason why you think it's so easy is because you get rescued every time you screw up. But without that the game would be too difficult, and I'm serious about that, because I would have died a lot. I guess the devs thought that if you die you would load the game anyway from the last checkpoint, so why should they break up the fluidness of the gameplay with a loading screen?

The fights are also very challenging at times. My last fight against the concubine lasted for well over 5 mins, because every time I screwed up she recovered, that's also a way to avoid a loading screen. I like it that way.

btw: I think the game is really emersive. What I don't like very much is that Elika can show you the EXACT way you have to take. I would have liked it a bit more challenging, like she points to a destination and you take the route you think that leads there.

I have been replaying the game just to see if my mind would change about keeping it or not...it has changed.
I changed skin to Altaïr and removed the voice and subtitles from it (too bad you can skip cutscenes) but the game is actually good if it doesnt interupts you with dialogue and cutscenes.

I dont mind the dying and Elika saves you, its another way of load up checkpoint screen, this is a better way anyways.

The combat, I get some lengthy problems in the combat, the queen and that giant rock thingy, but the combat is good.
Trying to do various long combos to see how much I can pull off.

There is a trophy/achievement were you have to get 14 hit combo, I know the combo but its a bit difficault to pull it off, but I will manage to get a hold of it.

The music is actually much better than I thought (except the healing places were its on loop).
I turned off all the volumes except the music, and some of the places has such a awesome ambience feel, one of them was like Assassins Creed in Masyaf, really love it, with some female choir, reminded me of The Two Thrones OST as well.

The track I am referring to is in CITY OF LIGHT, you can hear a female vocal in the background now and then, I just love these type of tracks, gives me the chills to the bone :D
Its two version of it, and both is amazing.

Somehow playing as Altair with no voice and subtitles to interrupt me, just me "cruising" around and get the feeling of the amazing environment and ambience music is just great, dont understan why I couldnt feel like this when I used the old prince.
I guess Altair design is still my favorite design because of AC (one of my favorite games) and he fits more in the environment than the new prince design does, IMO.

BTW Viginti, you dont have to use Elikas destination magic if you dont want to, its up to the player.

I sometime use it, but I try to refuse to use it so I can do more gameplay and thinking of my own.
If you keep using the magic trail the gameplay will be shorter because you know where to go without much thinking...even though you can see it on your map.

But right now, my liking to the game has increased with some adjusting.
Too bad you can skip the cutscenes, like AC. But unlike AC, the cutscenes and speeches arent long.

Well there is no way to tell how you gonna reach the next fertile ground, unless you go to the "map" and always check... and do some guessing. I want there to be some guidance, Elika knows this places and it's just common sense she told you where to go. But I just believe she's helping a little too much.

I dont know, I played it once, and this is my second enjoyable atleast run, and I dont have any rush to complete it. I do check the map once to see where to go and then I just go and try and explore and look around to see any fertile grounds.

I dont do any set destination for myself, makes it a bit more enjoyable.
And no, I havent memorized them

My favorite place is CITY OF LIGHT, everything is good in that section.

14 hit combo made me realize how many variations could be.

What I do is, I wont let the enemy kill me, so if I hit them and their life is getting lower, I will do misstakes on purpose so Elika can help me and they will gain health for more combat training.

I did my 14 combo move, got a Sword master trophy :)

I am still wondering if its a keeper or not, but atleast this time I am having a bit more fun than the first time which I find awkward.

Thats not a theme, doesn't belong to POP.
Its a trailer music made by Boomerang company, track is called "Drive He Said". But thats not the one with choir included...I know I have it but with so many tracks I cant find it.
If I do, I will tell you :)
