Inscrit depuis 7424 JoursI guess what I'm trying to say is that if PoP is good, it's automatically better as *a movie* than Silent Hill, and one that should appeal to anyone regardless of his or her familiarity with the game it's derived from.
I have actually been enthusiastic about this ever since I saw the workforce behind it and read that Disney's intention was to create a franchise to shoulder the Pirates mantle once that trilogy bowed out. Of course now it's evident that Pirates will stick around, and hopefully that hasn't impacted how much they'll be backing this one.

This sounds more like a tie-in to go with the movie release. I believe it has nothing to do with the new trilogy.

Inscrit depuis 7424 JoursThat said, it'll have no bearing on this upcoming game, I'm sure. To me, the wording in the press release suggests that "The Forgotten Sands" picks up the story threads of Two Thrones, but as many point out it could easily be a movie tie in. "Return to Sands of Time series" to me sounds like Ubi - like they've done in the past - has heeded the call of many gamers and returned to the old format.

I'm a little (lot?) cynical, but I don't see any reason to buy into it just yet. I'm not saying it won't be a good game or anything.. I just think they're feeding the fans what they want in terms of PR and that's little reason to raise expectations. I'm curious, when has Ubisoft heeded the call of gamers to return to an old format in the past? I enjoy some of Ubisoft's modern efforts, but I'm not sure they've shown much love this generation for their roots... at least in terms of their "legacy" franchises.
Inscrit depuis 7424 JoursIt seems out of character to me though. Sure, turn a valve and the cynicism will come flooding into this thread courtesy of the usual suspects, but I really don't see Ubisoft "selling out" a franchise like Prince of Persia deliberately. As much venom as one might spew over 2008's free roaming shenanigans, I don't think there's ever been any actual carelessness, lack of ambition or willingness to let quality slide on their part, and putting their Prince of Persia eggs all in the same basket seems contrary to that in my eyes.
But then again, perhaps the movie has screened awesomely and this is totally the way to go. I suppose time (of which there are sands or otherwise) will tell.

Look at the prince, well a shadow of him really. Looks like the Jake, the guy playing him in the movie. I call this a 100% game based on the movie, clearly
Inscrit depuis 7424 JoursEDIT: Yeah based on the site, it's legit. So now it's even more of a tossup, but I'm still going with it tying into the old games rather than being a proper Jake Gyllenhaal faced movie complement.

Inscrit depuis 7267 JoursThis time, sorry POP team, you cant fool me with this nonsense, as much as I like the universe.
But we will see, but I wont hold my breath for it.
PS. The prince image seems to look like how he did in Warriors Within, and yeah I agree with Alimo, but I am not sure it will be based on the movie, if so....even worse :P
Besides, coming out May 2010, isnt the movie out sometime then as well? Obviously movie based because I doubt a full POP game would be out this early.
Meh.

Inscrit depuis 7401 JoursIt happens more frequently than you might think. I mean, come on.. the timing.. it's perfect marketing. Even if it's not The Movie: The Game, it seems likely that the movie probably had an impact on this game.
Inscrit depuis 7331 Jours1. Prince of Persia was never released in May before (Always Christmas). Movie hits theaters in May: Coincidence, I don't think so!
2. Putting aside the new storyline to go back to the sands of time story, to go along with the sands of time themed movie..... I don't think I need to add any further reasons now, do I ?
I am willing to bet the storyline will even follow the story of the movie and you will get a prince that looks like Jake. Just wait and see!
Ubisoft is fighting for movie based games every year. This is the perfect opportunity to score one given that it's their franchise to begin with.
I have nothing against the above obviously as long as it's a good game BUT I still want to see the new trilogy continue and I need them to fix the mistakes they did in that one.

I'm actually curious how this one turns out. I was somewhat disappointed with the last one - I know what developers attempted to achieve, but t didn't work for me (or majority of people apparently). I don't think instant respawns were a mistake though, the game just needed better and more varied environments as well as real puzzles. I don't know what they could do new in the Sands of Time storyline, The Two Thrones' ending wrapped up pretty much everything.
The Sands of Time remake with better combat might be cool though, it's one of the best game ever and everything in it was perfect except the combat.

Inscrit depuis 7424 JoursI'm certainly curious to see where the current trilogy would head with a sequel that expands on the ideas in that game, but at the same time I do miss the SoT prince. If giving him the name Dastan and handing him a semblance of the charm and gusto he used to have is their intention, I'll readily sign whatever document makes it happen!
