If you read the wording in all of the official statements so far they explicitly say the game is going back to pick up the storyline of the past games. I swear to you in the very least it won't have Jake's likeness.

The Art looks BRILLIANT at least .... please please dont be like Warrior Within.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother's kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost.
Game features include:

* Return of a Fan-Favorite Franchise: Set between Prince of Persia The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will provide fans a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe and deepen their understanding of the Sands of Time series.
The versions for Wii, NDS(i) as well as the PSP will feature a different gaming experience from the versions for Xbox 360 and PS3. More details will be unveiled in the near future.
On one hand, the outcry over last year's game has been all but unanimous among gamers and critics alike so it's nice to once more see proof that Ubisoft are keen to listen to them. It was obvious back when Two Thrones made a complete turnaround that the series' fans and its "status" are more important than sales, necessarily, seeing as the Slipknotted prince of Warrior Within did make for a bigger sales success than either of the two games surrounding it.
For me personally though I'm sad to see them abandon the fluid, on-the-fly platforming they were on to with the pop08 - a set of mechanics I would love to see expanded on and perfected. It's always sad to see new interesting directions halted in favour of sticking to old ones.
But bright side is.. this is totally pre-angst Sands of Time prince. Hopefully they bring back his original accent aswell. Also, though the trailer kinda shows a dorky looking metal jerk flipping out, this is a good opportunity for them to recapture the fairy tale charm of Sands of Time. I really, really enjoyed the surreal atmosphere in PoP08, but since we get no more of that, it's nice that we at least get to revisit a time in the SoT continuum when it wasn't all about metal g-strings and decapitations.

Now as for the this new game, not sure, they are doing it for the Fans Simon. It's all about the movie which is based on the SOT storyline so they said, hey insert sequel/prequel here just so that we have something related to the SOT storyline. Releasing it in May is a dead give-away that it's an attempt to cash in on the hype. I just hope to God, they don't sacrifice quality. I am holding my breath for which studio is responsible... if it's out of Montreal, Good Lord HELP US!

I have to say, It is looking rather very good. They have a really good cast Jake/Gemma & Molina are some of my favourite actors ....
There is no mention of the movie in the game's title and no crossover in terms of presentation or story setup.
The timing for the game is opportunistic for sure, but it's far from a blatant attempt to have moviegoers associate the game with the film. Consider the usual overdone signposting for movie tie-ins where you have the director and THE OFFICIAL GAME OF THE MOVIE slapped across the box.
Ubi Montreal is the good one by the way. Sands of Time, Two Thrones, Rainbow Six 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell 1, Chaos Theory and Conviction, Assassin's 2, et cetera.

is that I hope IT IS made in Montreal. by "out" I mean development is done outside of there ;)
Sure, it may not have the official game of the movie on the box but it still is PRINCE OF PERSIA + SANDS especially the sands part. I really think the only reason that they went back to the sands of time story is the movie... Well you said it Simon, they are capitalizing on the movie anyway, it doesnt matter if they change the name or not.
I have hope though that the new direction they took in 2008 is still alive and kicking. They are very limited by how many games they can pump out that would fit between SOT and WW. I'll just make myself believe that for now :(
But yeah, I think going back to the sands name could indicate two things, or both at once. Like you say, it ties nicely into the movie title and raises awareness that it's connected somehow, but I also think they may be trying to evoke the feeling of this actually being part of Sands of Time and not the latter emo prince endeavours.
But it could be the relentless optimist in me that keeps trying to see this from a positive angle. I think Ubi can do an enjoyable-if-flawed PoP game in their sleep at this point though, so I'm fairly confident I'll like what they're putting out. I just hope they're not rushing it and end up with a glitchy mess like the Xbox version of Warrior Within this time.

Watch the mentioning of movie... I like his focus on SOT though meaning we can hope it will be as good as that one.
This is how the new PoP should have looked liked.
I havent read on this one, but is it confirmed if this is the movie-game or not?
I hope not.
I just remember the shadow art of the prince looked like the one from the movie.

.... Those sands should have honeslty stayed forgotten ............
I didnt like the cartoon direction they went with thats all, especially the gameplay.
Some effect DID look cool with that art, but thats about it for me, stylish, but I dont prefer.
But artstyle wasent the issue for me at all considering it grew on me with time, but gameplay...meh.
So, non of you answered my question, great! :P
So I guess this has nothing to do with the movie right?

They say the game isnt based on the movie but I call bull. Look at the prince or should I say look at Jake. It may be a different story but they are clearly after the movie public in this one. Spitting out a New prince of Persia this soon isnt a good sing in my book.
We cant know for sure until we see the movie bt the signs are pointing to a quick cash cow half-as*** sequel-slash-prequel, insert "sands of time" phrase kinda of game....
Jesus CHRIST there are enough grimy, charmless hack and slash fests around for the Slipknot crowd already. If you're gonna work on Sands of Time goodwill you better be prepared to offer up some actual NUANCE.
I WISH it was based on the movie at this point. That looks to have some HEART.
