You bet I'm a hater! I fucking hate what Warrior Within did! I can't FUCKING BELIEVE MY EYES that they're bringing back that emo bullshit and have the nerve to reference the infinitely superior Sands of Time in the process!

Jesus CHRIST there are enough grimy, charmless hack and slash fests around for the Slipknot crowd already. If you're gonna work on Sands of Time goodwill you better be prepared to offer up some actual NUANCE.
Right there with you mate... right there ........ I will await some gameplay videos but it stinks of WW and if it's the case. They can forget it, I aint buying.

For someone who says he likes good hit detection and responsive control, you're missing one HELL of a combat system in the 2008 POP, very easy yes but spectacular to look at.

We cant know for sure until we see the movie bt the signs are pointing to a quick cash cow half-as*** sequel-slash-prequel, insert "sands of time" phrase kinda of game....
Hit detection was good, but whats the point if you couldnt use it until one enemy showed up and waited like 10-20 minutes for another "one". And the combat was crap and too automcatic compared to the previous titles. It was good to watch yes, but they might as well could have QTEs to keep with the rest of the tradional scene-to-scene finishers. Hit detection wont save a good combat system, its not a one mechanic win you know. There are a few other things that has to be properly made to compliment with the rest, or else it fails to do its job or wont quit feel right.

I owned the game, such a regret, one of the games I knew I shouldnt have bought but got carried away.

I hate the Warrior Within myself, but the Two Thrones, thats a good art direction.

But combat and gameplay, Warrior Within was good, I liked it. Nice acrobatic moves, dual weapons anytime you wanted, finishers...etc. pretty ok. but the whole "emo rock prince" was not something I liked, at all.
Sure the dark atmosphere was cool and all, but the rest of the style failed.

As for this game...I agree, it does look like a fast cash-in, just in time for the movie.

This was absolutely always going to be a movie tie in. Nothing to do with 2008 PoP, which I infinitely prefer. Can't believe anyone thought different.

I expect it to turn out about as well as the Avatar game.

There's movie tie in and there's clever positioning. The game does not technically count as a movie tie in, I repeat, DOES NOT COUNT AS A MOVIE TIE IN.

It's blatantly obvious, just look at the title font. The Lego tie in with the movie carries the movie branding, the game does not.

It won't be Jake's character, and there'll be no continuity with the movie.

Then why is it coming out at exactly the same time? Watch Ubisoft when they are speaking corporately (i.e. not directly to consumers). It's very clear what they consider this to be.

They are making a PoP game to capitalize on the movie. Not because they thought it would be cool idea to go back to the pre-2008 universe and it just happened to be coming out at the same time.

Then tell me why the branding is entirely different.

I don't dispute that it's positioned to coincide with the movie, but after the bile that was thrown in 08's general direction, this kind of rollback isn't alien to Ubisoft at all. Conviction is an entirely different game from when it was first shown.

If this was a blatant attempt to funnel people from the movie into buying a game, the branding would match.

Yeah because I'm the audience they want gravitating towards a game with a movie tie in. :)

Seriously, even that old Wolverine game got stamped with the movie X-men 2 logo to sell more. It wasn't even remotely based on the movie, but when it's on shelves it's all about the brand recognition.

That's what they would've plastered on the box. Well, minus lego people obviously.

This is how the new PoP should have looked liked.

I havent read on this one, but is it confirmed if this is the movie-game or not?
I hope not.

I just remember the shadow art of the prince looked like the one from the movie.
i agree, POP08 just wasnt a great direction for the game imo, this looks a lot better. even the warrior within vibe doesnt bother me, while it was the weakest of the 3 pop games last gen, it was still far FAR beter then the way pop 08 looked and played.

Ask Yves! I don't know, but over the last couple of years, Hollywood has been all Ubisoft have been going on about. They told investors they are making this game specifically to go with the movie. Perhaps because it came from an Ubisoft studio with balls, they managed to retain a bit more creative control.

Hell it might even be risk management. Movie based games definitely do not sell if the movie does poorly, regardless of how good they are. I don't think this film is going to be smashing box office records and perhaps following Avatar, Ubi's marketing got spooked and want to play safe.

Regardless, I'm paying no attention to either unless they resume the 2008 direction.

Let's not hate the game before we know anything of substance though. For all we know, they could really nail it. Or not, but jumping the gun doesn't make sense either. There really is NOTHING to go on. No footage. We all love Sands of Time( I think that's a given), and because it's before the Warrior Within, perhaps we'll get the Prince we know and love...

That was of course the hope. Look at him though, look at his design. Its 15 year old getting funky design. Recall the utterly loveable LOOK of Sands of Time, that disney, almost Aladdin-esque flair it had.

This prince really isn't that prince anymore.

YUP! They are pulling a Two Thrones on us once again where u end up with a game stuck in between SOT and WW with literally no personality of its own.

I'm hoping it's just a familiarity thing, though. Seeing as that is the direction they had for the last 2 SoT games...

I never actually championed through Two Thrones. It was the biggest disappointment of the three for me because not only was the stylistic rollback downright jarring (decapitation animation but no decapitation :|) but the gameplay was garbage aswell. Even more combat focused than WW, and the jumping puzzles were largely as linear as PoP08 but not actually MADE to be, hence posessing none of the flow and grace.

Warrior Within is the most heartbreaking though because it's arguably a better game underneath than Sands of Time was. It just murdered any semblance of that fantastical atmosphere that made SoT so memorable, in favour of the "dark" stuff that was the trend at the time. A rare case where I end up valuing presentation aspects more than the underlying gameplay.

Ultimately though Sands of Time was a one-off. Despite trying their very best with the new one, it's impossible to have planets align that well again. It doesn't help that the new Prince was so Nathan Drake you wanted to rip his Mission Impossible mask off and expose him, and Elika tries to inhabit the place in your heart that Farah owns already. I loved what that game did with the gameplay and the surreal, sometimes bordering on abstract world it transported the player to, but a Sands of Time it is not.

I got a bit sidetracked there.. my point was that I never finished Two Thrones and thus dunno how feasible it'd be to set it AFTER that game. However, looking at this one I just don't really understand the point of setting it after SoT when they're clearly going with dark emo fighter prince anyway.

Although it's hard to derive anything particularly positive from Ubi's recent confession that yeah they'll be whoring their franchises blue in the face, I suppose it could potentially mean that there IS in fact a sequel to PoP08 in the works even with Forgotten Sands coming out.

I won't be a cynic about it, I think as long as the games they put out are good that hey, go for more games in your franchises. I certainly won't miss having to wait 2 years between each entry, and I genuinely love every Splinter Cell game including Pandora Tomorrow. Okay, not 360 Double Agent, because Shanghai kinda let fancy graphics tricks dictate the mission design, but my point is that for me, Montreal/Shanghai taking turns with the Splinter Cell games gave me added value, ultimately. I think Pandora Tomorrow is pretty excellent even.

Aaaanyhoo, Prince of Persia, yes. Yeah, I dunno how you'd avoid confusion in the marketplace when bringing out a Prince of Persia that isn't a sequel to Prince of Persia and then bring out a Prince of Persia that isn't a sequel to the last one which wasn't a sequel but in fact a sequel to the one before it, to which the other one wasn't a sequel. I can't even type this without confusing myself.

But it's a possibility in light of their recent comments I reckon. I liked PoP08 and I'd gladly have a bit more of that dreamy surrealism, thanks.

I didn't like the Wii version of this that we had in the office but I wouldn't read too much into that. I'm hoping they are just getting this out to position with the movie and capitalise on that and that the PoP 08 follow up is next year.

I'm a bit less optimistic than I was on that front though
