Jesus CHRIST there are enough grimy, charmless hack and slash fests around for the Slipknot crowd already. If you're gonna work on Sands of Time goodwill you better be prepared to offer up some actual NUANCE.
We cant know for sure until we see the movie bt the signs are pointing to a quick cash cow half-as*** sequel-slash-prequel, insert "sands of time" phrase kinda of game....
I owned the game, such a regret, one of the games I knew I shouldnt have bought but got carried away.
I hate the Warrior Within myself, but the Two Thrones, thats a good art direction.
But combat and gameplay, Warrior Within was good, I liked it. Nice acrobatic moves, dual weapons anytime you wanted, finishers...etc. pretty ok. but the whole "emo rock prince" was not something I liked, at all.
Sure the dark atmosphere was cool and all, but the rest of the style failed.
As for this game...I agree, it does look like a fast cash-in, just in time for the movie.
I expect it to turn out about as well as the Avatar game.

It's blatantly obvious, just look at the title font. The Lego tie in with the movie carries the movie branding, the game does not.
It won't be Jake's character, and there'll be no continuity with the movie.

They are making a PoP game to capitalize on the movie. Not because they thought it would be cool idea to go back to the pre-2008 universe and it just happened to be coming out at the same time.

I don't dispute that it's positioned to coincide with the movie, but after the bile that was thrown in 08's general direction, this kind of rollback isn't alien to Ubisoft at all. Conviction is an entirely different game from when it was first shown.
If this was a blatant attempt to funnel people from the movie into buying a game, the branding would match.

Seriously, even that old Wolverine game got stamped with the movie X-men 2 logo to sell more. It wasn't even remotely based on the movie, but when it's on shelves it's all about the brand recognition.
That's what they would've plastered on the box. Well, minus lego people obviously.

This is how the new PoP should have looked liked.
I havent read on this one, but is it confirmed if this is the movie-game or not?
I hope not.
I just remember the shadow art of the prince looked like the one from the movie.

Hell it might even be risk management. Movie based games definitely do not sell if the movie does poorly, regardless of how good they are. I don't think this film is going to be smashing box office records and perhaps following Avatar, Ubi's marketing got spooked and want to play safe.
Regardless, I'm paying no attention to either unless they resume the 2008 direction.

Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
This prince really isn't that prince anymore.

Warrior Within is the most heartbreaking though because it's arguably a better game underneath than Sands of Time was. It just murdered any semblance of that fantastical atmosphere that made SoT so memorable, in favour of the "dark" stuff that was the trend at the time. A rare case where I end up valuing presentation aspects more than the underlying gameplay.
Ultimately though Sands of Time was a one-off. Despite trying their very best with the new one, it's impossible to have planets align that well again. It doesn't help that the new Prince was so Nathan Drake you wanted to rip his Mission Impossible mask off and expose him, and Elika tries to inhabit the place in your heart that Farah owns already. I loved what that game did with the gameplay and the surreal, sometimes bordering on abstract world it transported the player to, but a Sands of Time it is not.
I got a bit sidetracked there.. my point was that I never finished Two Thrones and thus dunno how feasible it'd be to set it AFTER that game. However, looking at this one I just don't really understand the point of setting it after SoT when they're clearly going with dark emo fighter prince anyway.

I won't be a cynic about it, I think as long as the games they put out are good that hey, go for more games in your franchises. I certainly won't miss having to wait 2 years between each entry, and I genuinely love every Splinter Cell game including Pandora Tomorrow. Okay, not 360 Double Agent, because Shanghai kinda let fancy graphics tricks dictate the mission design, but my point is that for me, Montreal/Shanghai taking turns with the Splinter Cell games gave me added value, ultimately. I think Pandora Tomorrow is pretty excellent even.
Aaaanyhoo, Prince of Persia, yes. Yeah, I dunno how you'd avoid confusion in the marketplace when bringing out a Prince of Persia that isn't a sequel to Prince of Persia and then bring out a Prince of Persia that isn't a sequel to the last one which wasn't a sequel but in fact a sequel to the one before it, to which the other one wasn't a sequel. I can't even type this without confusing myself.
But it's a possibility in light of their recent comments I reckon. I liked PoP08 and I'd gladly have a bit more of that dreamy surrealism, thanks.

This is actually the screenshot that puts me the most to ease. Those are clearly stylised skeletons with just the tiniest tinge of goofy, not emo goth bullshit "scary" skeletons.
I'm allowing myself to look forward to this, officially.
