You can. In the demo if you press RB (or R2 i'm guessing on the PS2), you can go to 'player options'. This shows costumes, lightsaber, upgrades etc.
Yeah I figured that out on my first playthrough, because it says so on the screen of what buttons you can press for what type of menu.
But all of them was greyed out, so I am glad you can pick any outfit and lightsaber anytime you want in the full game, as long as you unlocked them :)

Poor camera mechanics. Combo/melee lacks any sense of urgency or need to string together attacks/combos to be effective. VERY bad AI. Some mechanics are a little rough. With no MP I am concerned how long this will be. I love SW E4-6 but this game looks like a poor mans Heavenly Sword from the demo.
Wow, I completely agree.

The combat felt simplistic to me, like you just go there, grab the enemy and he's practically dead. AI is boring indeed. The camera is VERY problematic. Combat feels weak also because there is no "combat", there is just kicking ass over and over--I suppose that is what you mean when you say there is a lack of urgency.

Now, just to add something you didn't say. Why didn't they allow you to walk while grabbing something? It feels limited and you just get shot all the time while just standing there....TRYING to grab something, although it has very little consequence on your health. And that is another thing, the targeting system is a problem. How many times have I tried to grab something but the pointer is somewhere else?

But once you grab something, the enemies are dead as well. You just point in the general direction and it will always hit. Again, no "combat".

Lastly, the boss fight we get to play, plus the others we've seen thus far also feel very underwhelming, using the light saber doesn't seem to have any effect on bosses, they just stand there. In a way enemies in this game are nonreactive as those in TH......just not as bad.

On the positive side I will said that the game is really good on the technical side (excluding AI). The environments, from demo to videos are really cool, physics all over the place, very nice character models, etc etc.

So I was disappointed, it's still a cool game, but not a buy, perhaps a rental or a good bargain bin buy later on.

theres this weird issue concerning killing and then picking up their bodies.

if you force grab an enemy, and kill him, so his life bar depleats, as long as you pick him up again he will come back to life and start shooting you while you keep him floating about. its seems as long as you hold an enenmy in the air, dead or alive, the euphoria engine will kick in and he's start shooting you.

The fact that I can finally pick up people and throw them to their death again with the force may be blinding me, but come on.. when is that ever not fun? You're not wrong Acert.. but.. force grip! It's like, force choke, but it can pick up exploding barrels too! ;)

I am not saying the game isn't fun, but it has a lot of flaws that detour me from purchasing. No coop or online play, which would add a lot of true replay, are big let downs. Jedi show downs or 2 player coop (combo jedi power linking!!!!!!!!!!!!) would have been very cool. Heck, even a GeoW2 horde mode (or whatever they call it) where you and a couple friends fend off increasingly difficult waves of attackers would be cool. Throw in some different environments and context sensative force powers/interaction and at least you have something to do after beating the main game.

I think the core concept in the SW:TFU is really good. And while I can nitpick not being able to run+lightsaber block or move and force grab, overall the mechanics and play are fun enough.

If this was an Action RPG ala Diablo or Too Human I could overlook some of the issues (camera, targetting), especially if there became a rhyme and reason for the importance of using different attacks (e.g. Heavenly Sword has the color indicators for the type of attack or whatnot that you should employ). But for an action game this game is a very, very mainstream game that lacks any learning curve.

But you are a super bad Jedi/Sith who knows no bounds to your power.

So it is cool and you can do stuff you wish you could do but never will be able to. So rent it for $5 for a weekend, spend 20 hours shocking, force gripping, etc enemies until you are so sick of it you never want to play it again :P

Btw, if they did a sequal how cool would it be if:

A) you could really customize your Force powers: don't like lightning? How about custom mix and match force powers to make your special player ... and then take him online for quests or duels.

B) Combat that matters. A risk system on light saber swings (light, medium, strong; high/low? use an analog stick and trigger for such??) for some depth... but more importantly is some VF/SC style combos that really matter.

The game has potential but the demo felt broke to me. Even the link to the open area hints at the same problems: the AI is dumb, but even when they shoot it barely hurts you anyhow (no urgency to block anything). You essentially are in a big play ground with dumbies and told, "Go play with these cool force powers." And they are cool but there is no skill and I am already sick of shocking people.

There seems to be hints of custom progression in this game already. I agree it's far from perfect, but I still want to play it. I'm more critical of Vader's goofy voice than most of its more glaring gameplay flaws. I agree that it doesn't seem to represent much of a value though, especially at todays cost of gaming. That's why they invented rentals, bargain bins, and second hand gaming.

Hehe Acert I wish Too Human had this game's camera system, one of the game's most glaring flaws and I think the targeting is more intelligently handled.

Also I prefer the targeting be done the way it is because it encourages you to find creative ways to take advantage of the force. Sure you might not have the time to bother to target a specific someone in the heat of combat, but then you force grip something else and make it useful.

I can see Jedi fights being pretty fun in this game. Yea Vader's voice was one of the bigger flaws for me. The less he talked, the better it was.

This game doesn't need any online, BioShock which is a FPS didn't need any, why should a 3rd person action game that focuses strong on SP need any.

It's like they not putting any sort of co-op or versus on Ninja Gaiden or DMC or even God of War...these are single player experiences, and they should remain and such-

Unless they had online focus since day one, online would just be a gimmick and flawed.

But whatever I am happy with it.

I don't know. I think it's probably what, an easy ten hour romp, which while fun, is it really worth $60? Multiplayer adds additional value to a game. I wouldn't want tacked on multiplayer either, but it's not hard to see the potential for good multiplayer in a Star Wars action game, especially when it's been done before.

Plus you're comparing it to games that are like.. GOTY sort of titles. Do you really expect that much from Force Unleashed? I think it's going to be good too, but I'm not paying full price for it.

Well to a lot of people it really will be worth $60.

The fact that it's suppose to be an official Star Wars Universe story of what really took place between episode 3 and 4 should more than justify it's price for many people.

Most important, people have different opinions of worth when it comes to a game. To some people, Star Wars Force Unleashed is the best game coming out this year. I don't believe that to be the case, but there are those who definitely believe that.

Well obviously, loads of people are going to buy it. But tons of people buy shit that's totally not worth the cover price anyway. When you spend a significant portion of your budget on entertainment, it becomes important to budget what's important, and value becomes a significant issue.

10-12 hour games with little replay value just aren't worth $60 to a lot of people. You can't blame them for that. I don't think there's many gamers who think this thing is GOTY material either, and I happen to really enjoy Star Wars quite a bit myself.

When you can rent a game for a fraction of its price and easily complete it in that rental period, why buy?

This is my take: you remove the SW license from the game and it is a pretty poor game. Obviously the license makes it more appealing and piques a sense of nastolgia, but you slap the license on any number of underwhelming games and tweak the gameplay to fit such and you get my point. Call this game "God of War III" and you have a really, really bad follow-up to GoWI/II, or even Heavenly Sword for that matter. A strong story may be a strong point (lets see the entire package before we start praising the story though) but so far the gameplay has some real big issues. AI is really dumb, the camera is very poor for an action game, Euphoria and DMM don't appear to really be a big part of the gameplay itself so far, the combat is remedial, and so on.

But it is Star Wars, so people will love it and buy it. The fact it doesn't totally suck is the icing on the cake!

SW is Cars, Barbie, Finding Nemo, GI Joe, Power Rangers, etc for adults. ;)

They haven't focused on multiplayer since day one when making this game, so the MP side will be tacked on.
And GOTY...I am not expecting GOTY at all, I am just saying that even a FPS didn't have online, and thats crucial to the gaming market if they want FPS's to succeed.

But enough of FPS, this is a 3rd person action game.
You want a real comparison...ok.

Ninja Gaiden, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry...all of them are 3rd person action games that didn't need MP at all and look how people like it...and dislike it.

Different people see their value of games differently, I...will happily pay 70$ for this game, because I thought it was great, and that was only the demo.

But different people have different economy, different taste of what is worth and whats not worth within the game.
I think it is worth it...for ME.

Besides, you can't just "strip" away the SW licence...people will buy it anyways when they see all the Jedi/Sith abilities, lightsabers, stormtroopers...so it's not like they can just add "Star Wars" and make it sell.

To be honest, NG doesn't have any replay value at all.
They practically just throw in infinite enemies and you have to kill them...if you call that replay vlaue, I call that a cheap shot of an extra mode.

But whatever, I have alreayd pre-ordered this game and can't wait to play it.

There's is no multi-player--so it won't be tacked on. Your backwards logic work both ways. And FYI, multi-player is not mandated by camera perspective. Just because you think that a 10 hour action game is worth full price, it doesn't really change the fact that Acert is right--if this game weren't a Star Wars game, you probably wouldn't be comparing it to games like Ninja Gaiden and God of War.

And lets not try to pretend that every action game is on the same page with those high profile releases.

I didn't say this was shit--I said that people buy shit--and that's a fact. So regardless of value, this game will sell, for a variety of reasons. It's in no small part because it's a Star Wars game.

Of course it is: it is a mammoth license that, regardless of the quality of the product, people will buy it because of the license. Being good quality is only a plus. Further, the trend is to maximize appeal with the license therefor accessibility is a prime principle in design as well as initial "cool factor" to draw consumers in.

Parents will buy their children Cars et al branded games because kids want products, regardless of quality, because there is an emotional attachment to the license.

Star Wars is no different and the sales history of titles in light of their comparative quality, puts a pretty big exclaimation on this point. You throw the Red Dwarf license on SW:TFU and I bet (a) it gets less than 25% the exposure that this title has and (b) at the same quality the reviews would be lower and the title would sell substantially less.

Grift, I would still compare it to NG and God of War, because they still fall in the same genre..3rd person action games.
But, all of them have different formula so its different to be compared, but if you would compare it to any title it would be Devil May Cry because they use the same attack button layout and mechanic.

But whatever, this game will sell ALOT, one way or another, and don't forget that it is a multiplatform title, from next-gen to Nintendo DS, so it will sell.

But like i said before, every person have a unique way of looking at games, mine is different from yours...and vice versa.

And people have different budget within games so they know what is worth and whats not.

But from the videos and definitely from the demo, I had tons of fun with the game, so I am buying it for sure.
