Star Wars: The Force Unleashed thread

I just played through the demo this morning and I have to admit I was disappointed. I'm not a Star Wars fan but the premise of the game looked interesting. The intial screenshots were also very beautiful so I was interested to check out this game.

The game felt a little bit too easy for me but I suppose they were aiming for a general mass market appeal. But what surprised me the most was the graphics. While there were some nice stuff, it certainly didn't look like the screens from before. I was disappointed because I thought this would be a very graphically beautiful game.

What added to my disappointment was Soul Calibur 4. The render of the 'Apprentice' was done quite well in SC4. When I saw the 'Apprentice' in Force Unleashed, I was disappointed as well.

Is my TV special or something? The graphics looked stunning for me.

Other than a little screen tearing I really couldn't see any glaring problems with the graphics. I think they look quite good.

Like some have said already, I think this will be a nice rental and that is it. The game is fun but the combat and enemy AI just don't seem to have enough going for it.

As far as mulitplayer goes, I just don't think it's that necessary in most games. Most people just play certain games for multiplayer. So a developer spends time and resources, taking away from the single player because the budget is only so big, just so they can have a bullet point on the back of the box and reviewers can't complain about a lack of multiplayer. Then the game releases, people are busy playing other multiplayer games, and they make fun of the lack of a community for the game. Just seems pointless for me for a lot of games. Especially action games like this one.

I really have to mention how exciting it is to finally have you posting here in a full 360 owner capacity, Acert. Although your musings "from afar" have always been interesting, reading considered gameplay impressions and whatnot is a true delight.

Yeah same here, I thought it looked very good.

You know that in that second long hallway right before you have to force push a door open and from distance you see a bunch of Rebels coming at you.

I always pick up the extra damage thing next to the door, and then when I see the Rebels coming at you, I use full charged Force Push all the way and then "unleash" it and see everyhing just crash down and fly all over the place like glass the boxes...everything. It looks so damn awesome to see that kind of destruction.

I also read in the TFU official forum at LucasArts that you can upgrade your Force Grip and then be able to pick up multiple enemies at the same time, like that Pre-Vis tech demo.

Graphics is a hit or miss. Some parts look good, some parts doesn't. I had to cringe when I saw the cutscenes...I really hated the way the Apprentice looked in the cutscenes. He looked like the generic bald space marine. I guess my standards for this game increased after I played Soul Calibur 4.

I think they are some of the best graphics we've seen this gen.

There is so much to praise that I don't even know where to begin.

I've thought his character design was exceptionally boring from the start, but I think that's pretty forgivable. I agree though, to some extent. On the other hand, I did think it was pretty easy on the eyes.

He's the same actor that was in Assassin's Creed :P

Not referring to his voice, but his look. He seems to be landing some major roles. First he lands Altair in Assassin's Creed and then he lands the lead role in a new Star Wars videogame. He's doing fairly well for himself.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe he's also the lead actor for Infamous and will play as Brett Farve in Madden 09 :)

It would be funny if he was just some public domain model that all of the developers used.

I don't understand why people are complaining so much about his character design.
He's an actual person so...I'm not sure what people were looking for this guy to look like.

They wanted to keep his design basic and not terribly evil looking because the audience has to be able to sym/empathize with him - so alien features and evil looking characteristics had to be cut from design. The way Vader raised him was very harsh, kept in the dark and tortured for many years - his clothes are tattered and his hair is short, being raised to be a killing machine doesn't grant you many luxuries. When you actually see the story play through, you'll understand why the secret apprentice could not have been someone that looked like darth maul or a cyborg or something.

I don't have much of an issue with him, just messing around about how similar he looks to certain characters in other games.

And he was uninteresting enough on BSG to be disposable too ;P

He wasent used as Altair, it was someone else.

Francisco Randez "Altair"
http://www.gamongirls.com/IMG/jpg/altair3.jpg

And the SC4 of Starkiller looks shit to be honest.
He looks all blurred out and to "japanese" version.

I like the one from The Force Unleashed because he looks actually like the real actor, which is the point.

i think they where being sarcastic since the guy in force unleashed looks a lot like altair and even walks a lot like him...lol

btw, i hate the way his mouth animates in the cutscene, he looks like he's chewing a bit of toffee...lol

They do somewhat look the same, but he looks a bit remaked in SC4 while TFU actually looks like what he is suppose to look like, the real actor.

But I just prefer the one in TFU because thats the more detailed one in my opinion.

i think the SC4 one is more detailed for the simple reason there is less going on in the game, so the character has a higher poly count, better textures and more detail. TFU character cant be as detailed cos its rendering not only the main character, but 20 enemies, environment, physics etc

SC4 version looks better simply because it doesnt have to do as much.

Strange, since it's the same design with a lot more detail.. also funny, since you haven't actually played SCIV.
