Theoretical is 192gb/s is not surprising. I remember in the conference they said 200gb/s of total BW. Which I thought was nothing but smoke and mirrors. Not sure how the 32mb edram now from 102gb/s to 133gb/s effectively now ? + 5gigs of ddr3 which has only 68gb/s work without any bottleneck.

Yeah, lots of graphical glitches but they'll probably get to them. Will probably be the best launch title really the way things are looking, for either console.
Wow. Did you see the mirrors, how bad were they just like this gen games if not worst?, smoke affect was also meh. I honestly don't see a gen leap at all. But we will see how the retail version will be. Surely they need to have more cars on track with so much memory. Had they show some weather or amazing night race with lots of light, beams of head light or so it would be better.

Even though I do think it looks great. I also agree is not that big of a leap compare to Forza 4. This is the first Forza for this gen, so is something to be expected. This was the case also for Forza 2 where it didn't represent a huge leap coming to this generation, but if you compare Forza 3 with 2 the graphical jump was huge, so I expect Forza 6 to be the big leap on this generation.

I'm sure Forza 6 gameplay will look as great as Forza 5 car vistas.

They make it easier to make use of the ESRAM, so they play an important role, yes. It's especially helpful that the move engines work in parallel with GPU computation and are carefully limited in the amount of bandwidth they can use at any one time even if you use more than one move engine. This is good because then much needed bandwidth can be used for other things.

And that memory performance info is fantastic news. :)
Yeah it was along those lines.

Great news for dev.

New BIG RUMOR from Digital foundry - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-x...
Bandwidth is at a premium in the Xbox One owing to the slower DDR3 memory employed in the console, which does not compare favourably to the 8GB unified pool of GDDR5 in the PlayStation 4. The 32MB of "embedded static RAM" within the Xbox One processor aims to make up the difference, and was previously thought to sustain a peak theoretical throughput of 102GB/s - useful, but still some way behind the 176GB/s found in PlayStation 4's RAM set-up. Now that close-to-final silicon is available, Microsoft has revised its own figures upwards significantly, telling developers that 192GB/s is now theoretically possible.

So how could Microsoft's own internal tech teams have underestimated the capabilities of its own hardware by such a wide margin? Well, according to sources who have been briefed by Microsoft, the original bandwidth claim derives from a pretty basic calculation - 128 bytes per block multiplied by the GPU speed of 800MHz offers up the previous max throughput of 102.4GB/s. It's believed that this calculation remains true for separate read/write operations from and to the ESRAM. However, with near-final production silicon, Microsoft techs have found that the hardware is capable of reading and writing simultaneously. Apparently, there are spare processing cycle "holes" that can be utilised for additional operations. Theoretical peak performance is one thing, but in real-life scenarios it's believed that 133GB/s throughput has been achieved with alpha transparency blending operations (FP16 x4).
Great news.

Forza Motorsport 5 sounds insane...
Dan Greenawalt has the ability to make a pile of crap sound insane. (I am not saying that FM will be crap, but I just don't take things from him too literally)

In FM3 it was: New tyre-modell, tyre-flex, tyre physics, they really change the game, blablabla...
In FM4 it was: Image-based-lighting, no fake reflections, no fake shadows, it really changes the game, blablabla...
Now it is : Imperfections of the cars, the paint, the cloud, everything has changed, it really is a new game, blablabla...

Basically the core game has NOT changed since FM1. Damaged stayed the same, the tracks keep staying the same ones (actually FM1 had the best variety in tracks).

After Forza Horizon, I took at least day-night cycles as a given, but as it seems, they couldn't even realise that.

The most positive thing about the game so far is imo that they finally have windshield in cock-pit view (lol).

If they wanted to make a racing game, then it is time to add pit-stops, qualyfing, weather, day-night cycles and so on. But as it seems they keep building a car community game...

Too true. My mind is split though. Have we hit a wall of deminished returns? Or is it a case of these next gen racers not being given the time they need because then have to make it for launch?

Maybe my expectations are too high? But racers are usually the games to really push visuals at launch. But both forza and driveclub, while they look nice, arn't exactly blowing my mind. I want realtime refections in cars, i want dynamic smoke, day night cycles, dynamic weather. And i wanted it all to look like GT5's photo mode while playing, something to truely trick the mind into believing what we where seeing was real. Lofty expectations, sure, but we had glimpses of that THIS gen. To have it on a more consistent basis next gen seemed a dead cert to me? Maybe forza 6 and GT7 will impress me enough?

Out of the launch line-up I will buy:

Dead Rising 3
Forza Motorsport 5
Kinect Sports Rivals
Ryse: Son of Rome (maybe)

Watch Dogs will be bought on PC. PS4 will have to wait until after XMas, unless Mulitplatform games tend to be a lot better, then I'll buy sooner. Although every mulitplatform title I am looking forward to, also comes on PC.

As for Ryse - it seems fun and the demo on the conference was cut on the fighting so it didn't take too long, will decide on launch.

My wife surprised me and Preordered the One for me. BIG ups, baby :)

I'm gettin'

Dead Rising, Forza, Ryse, Watchdogs, BF4, AssCreed4( she preordered it, but I said why not, I played the shit out of 3). I'd like to get Madden, but I'll have to play the demo first. I am also interested in Below, too.

I'd say these new consoles have incredible launch line-ups. Too much, actually. I'm sooo glad Quantum Shift is coming next year...

I think GT7 will look freaking unbelievable when it launches in 2015 alongside Forza 6 (if we are lucky). Chances are it'll look better than FM6. Now, can PD restrain themselves from including crappy cars (premium vs not)? I hope.

The thing is, if you look at what FM5 is doing, is they have no pressure, so they are being passive. They are doing more of the same and changing some gameplay stuff (which has always been top of class--and I don't mean the driving only, I'm talking overall game design, etc).

So the only pressure they have is to deliver something representative at launch. I think there's tons of stuff that fails to impress me on FM5, but I hope it's just being saved for the true sequel in 2015

MS had a good E3 games wise.
Last night, the “Games Critic’s Awards: Best of E3” nominations were announced and Xbox continued to be highlighted as a winning platform, with Xbox One and Xbox 360 leading all platform nominations. Xbox One and Microsoft’s exclusive titles received 11 nominations, the most of any game console. In addition to Xbox One being nominated for top console of the show, the Xbox exclusive game “Titanfall” became the most nominated game in E3 Games Critic’s Awards history ever, with six award nominations.

In addition, here are a few other trends we’ve seen to date:

• “Titanfall”, an Xbox platform exclusive, has been widely acclaimed as the big winner of E3 and remains the lead game across all platforms with 101 nominations and 54 wins, for global nominations and awards.

•Across US award nominations*, Xbox exclusive titles have received 168 nominations and 68 wins, more than any other next-generation platform’s exclusive lineup. Top title nominations and winning awards include:

?“Forza Motorsport 5” earned 24 nominations and 8 wins
?“Dead Rising 3” earned 17 nominations and 7 wins
?“Project Spark” earned 13 nominations and 4 wins
?“Ryse: Son of Rome” earned 11 nominations and 2 wins

We’re really excited to see the positive response to the Xbox One exclusive games line-up and we remain committed to making Xbox One the best place to play games – led by the biggest exclusives, new IP and blockbuster franchises that play best on Xbox – delivered via exclusive technology only available on Xbox One.

I would also recommend these two vids for anyone interested in what Microsoft has in store for developers with DX11.2. So like the Xbox 360, it looks like Microsoft will continue it's trend of providing devs with the best creative environment and tools for game development. Some of those features are pretty nifty, like Tiled Resources. Giving developers the ability to take up to 3GBs of ultra high resolution textures and fit them into 16MBs.

It's going to be very interesting when developers settle in with these tools and functions.

Are those MS specific features?

Will the PS4 be able to utilize them considering it IS x86? If it can that's great, but if it can't then it would be a big advantage for MS....

Sony doesn't use DirectX at all. And the 360 uses DirectX (and isn't x86).

A big advantage? Let's not get too crazy here.. The mega-mega textures are cool though.

They still have a significant disadvantage in aspects of the hardware game. If they're doing anything it's recovering a little bit of that ground.

Sounds like it will lend itself very nicely to the 32MB fast ram, MS have always given devs great development tools, I expect that to continue this upcoming gen.

I just meant that they'll be able to get more from the hardware with the tech. If Sony's new platform supports it then the gap doesn't close. I've suspected MS would have something up it's sleeve to justify being able to be competitive with a less powerful spec for a while. That's why I haven't sure how much disparity there will between the two in the end...

I know that it's not good that someone with his attitude is the head of a game platform division and publishing tent. But I've observed enough corporations over the years to know that those things tend to take care of themselves. If he screws things up he will be asked to resign, or eventually he will just move on the same way the last 3 heads of the Xbox Division did. These people rarely ever remain in their positions for very long. And we might even get a more gamer centric chief that puts the core demographic first.
That's right, I called this 11 days ago.
