Ok, OK, I see your point. I'm still thinking of the long videos of basically nothing that already exist on youtube. Image when the learning barrier for getting stuff online is gone:S

You could use twitch for the full match stuff, I guess, but the only time I've enjoyed skill vis is when they are hyper edited to music.

When its all said and done, both companies need to utilize some more events and detail this stuff. There is so much we don't know and launch I isn't far off...
The best shit on youtube is probably machinima and real skill videos. Instructional type stuff. Strategy, analysis, etc. Try doing any of that in 30 second clips.

It's good for "oh-shit" type stuff and that's about it. Or if you can edit stuff together.. skill reelz.. which I agree are agonizing.

Oh and I actually love OH SHIT stuff.. so I guess it's not totally useless. But compared to say, 15 minutes on the PS4? Or better yet, unlimited on the PC! Pretty useless.

Xbox Smartglass integration and some Kinect stuff

http://news.xbox.com/2013/07/xbox-one-game-creator...

In “Dead Rising 3,” the Xbox SmartGlass Companion is integrated in both the gameplay and fiction. Nick Ramos, the game’s lead character, will discover a transmitter that will allow an in-game character to actually call you on your real-life mobile device with information, advice and even unique missions. Alternately, you can also use SmartGlass to set waypoints, view maps and call in military aid, like weapon drops and deadly airstrikes.

“You don’t have to use it, but it adds a lot,” said Josh Bridge. For example, the team found that Xbox SmartGlass opens up the possibility of two-screen couch co-op. While playing “Dead Rising 3” in the Capcom Vancouver office, Bridge’s colleagues would often pick up his mobile device and assist him with navigating through the city or finding new weapons.
That sounds interesting. I know a lot of SO's get tired of just watching their partner play games and not doing anything. Kind of keeps them in the action in stuff like Watchdogs.

I have to admit. I played the new Super Mario Bros using the touch screen controller to help out my friends while they platformed and progressed through the level. It was really really fun. I hadn't truly laughed playing a game like that in quite some time.

Except it's useful. I love watching something in the background while gaming. And it's useful for the reasons stated. "Scoring points" outside of the game for "good job honey, you helped me win ;)".

That sounds very gimmicky. And it will be in 90% of its applications.

It's not actually going to be useful in most cases. Silly.

I already hate the idea tbh. And it's that disconnection between displays that is hurting wii-u. Sadly, ubisoft in particular, seems to think its the future. App based stat tracking and load out changes, or other "away from game " features while on the move is fine, i don't want something i need to interact with, while already interacting and looking at the TV. it's bad enough having to watch a youtube clip showing you hidden item locations while gaming.

Like I said Super Mario implements it in awesome ways. But yes most of the time it will be gimmicky. But there are plenty of choices or game play elements in all video games that can end up that way. It's not always a peripheral

It's the thing that everyone is biting off of. First it was waggle. Then it was second screen gaming. Everyone loves to make fun of Nintendo.. while everyone flails about and copies their ideas.

Because they're underpowered and/or overpriced. Second Screen encompasses at least 3 methods:

1) TV replacement
2) Co-op partner
3) Outside of game actions (Customization, communication, etc).

And yes, commonly the 4th one: useless distractions. Most of which are done by Nintendo games. But there are some cool ones, like when one screen is the map and items display (Zelda on DS/3DS did this fabulously). But I'm interested in seeing what developers can do outside of just the standard console.

If you don't see the advantages of at least one of those I don't know what to tell you.

Hey Ubisoft is betting on second screen gaming big time. It must be a good idea!

1) It's for watching TV while you game? LOL.. okay.
2) Who would rather fuck around on your ipad instead of actually playing the game? Gimmick.
3) Oh, nice. Some scrub in Starbucks can fuck with my game now excellent. Gimmick.

Yeah. Second screen gaming can eat all the dicks. It's this generations Wii nonsense. Are you break-dancing Phaethon?

I love the games on Wiiu that lets you hide UI to the gamepad screen. So good. It's great because the screen is actually in the controller itself. I don't think I would enjoy using the feature with phone or something.

This piece helped convince me that second screen gaming is nothing but another fad:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-07-02-u...

Because really.. if Ubisoft thinks it's the future.. it's fuckin' waggle and 3D for sure.

"I'm convinced it's the future," Guillemot told us. "What I like in second-screen play is its accessibility, which means different types of people can play. Those who don't know how to play with the [controller] or don't like to play with it can use touch. So that's the first good element."

YUP. That sounds terrible.

Still there is lots of great ways of using the second screen. I always like when the map is on other screen so I don't need to pause to check the map (CV DS). Inventory management is a lot faster with touchscreen than with gamepad etc.

Find store. I hope it opens marketplace.
