X1 will now support self publishing and surprinsingly, evey retail X1 is a Dev Kit (which sounds a bit too good to be true!!)
According to Microsoft, indie developed games will have full access to the Xbox One hardware unlike Xbox LIVE Indie Games for the Xbox 360. This includes access to Xbox LIVE, the Azure Cloud service, Kinect, SmartGlass, system memory, graphics processor, etc. Whitten told Giant Bomb that there’s no “second class sort of experience” and that indie developers will have the same level of system access as TitanFall developer, Respawn.

Additionally, Phil Spencer sounded off on the subject via Twitter by saying, “Goals is to allow devs access to full pool of resources available, no indie RAM limit.”

I'm hoping it's not just limited to games as I'd like to create some apps for it at some point.

this indicates things may not be a clear cut as they say though, with it just being an extension of XBLIG. but it is from a developer who didn't find woking with MS particularly great, so maybe not all that reliable?
"Make no mistake; while this is a great thing, it's again not the equivalent to what other platforms offer."

"On PS4, for example, developers can tap right into the system; use every bit of RAM and all of its power. Indies have access to everything that the AAA studios do, from platform support to development and release. The indication on Xbox One is that it's essentially XBLIG 2.0. Instead of XNA, it's Windows 8. Windows 8, which is already struggling to gain developer interest, will gain a boost from developers wishing to target the console. However, it won't be as full-fledged as published games on the system."

Uh.. Phil Spensor seems to crush those statements in the comment directly above yours. He could not be more explicit.

reaching for what? indie publishing has absolutely nothing to do with me on either system, i'm not a developer. just passing on what i'd heard. maybe mr Brian Provinciano however, is reaching. so in that sense, you're right.

I think we can thank the competition for this MS revalation, lol, but that's why we need that competition. Does anyone think Sony would offer free games on PS Plus if they weren't trying to outdo MS? Go, baby GO! good stuff. I may just end up trying to get a game made myself!! I've got the art handled... now I just need a programmer....

Free "Unlimited" cloud storage for all Xbox Live users on the X1

If you actually read what it's offering, we get that on PS3 and Xbox 360. It's just saying you can redownload stuff you own, which is a nice spin of an old feature.

The quote didn't actually mention Saves, so if that's included it could be a nice addition, because everyone limits that because it adds up quick.

If it doesn't include game saves then there's no point even mentioning it as an X1 feature

Microsoft's Xbox can stream plenty of Internet content to your TV. But it might get overlooked by those considering Chromecast, Roku, or Apple TV because of its high price. Is it time for Microsoft to make non-gaming version of Xbox?

And they'll call it: Xbox 1 ;)

It's an interesting point. Microsoft is trying to dominate the media space with a $500 box going up against $35-$100 devices. It's not going to work.

I think the bigger issue is it's not replacing your DVR. All it's doing is saving an input on my TV, if I still need the remote what's the point? It's like in the middle of doing nothing with TV and doing too much with TV. I don't get that at all!!

And the Xbox 360 is supposed to be their new streaming only device I thought. Wasn't there a rumor of it going down to $99 after the One had been out for a while. That's not an unappealing idea, but I don't expect it to become a device to compete with the likes of Apple TV/Roku etc.

Very cool if true.
In a first for Xbox, it looks likely that Xbox One will support mods.

Following news that any Xbox One can be used as a dev kit, it was asked on Reddit if this means the console would support mods.

"It's up to developers to support that," answered Microsoft's Major Nelson. "These are two very different things."

His answer suggests that the capacity for modding is there, if developers create games in a way that will support it.

Xbox and Xbox 360 didn't allow for mods but the recent Xbox One policy changes are positioning the new console to be the most open console Microsoft has made to date.

We're still doubtful we'll see mods on Xbox One titles but this is the closest Microsoft has come to allowing them to happen on its console.

more games should have supported it current gen tbh. unreal tourney on the PS3 is the only one i remember doing it. good to hear it'll potentially be the norm next gen. although how interchangable some of the more taxing mods are between PC and console i don't know?

Unlimited cloud saving is just a PR thing. 99% will save on HDD or external drive as backup. Only save data make sense if you are using other console and can login to your account and then use that save data to play.
