1. They need to use activation phrases to avoid accidental activation of features and aps. So you end up with the "xbox: pause movie" "xbox: on" situation. Which again, takes up time which you could have done the same thing 10 times over with buttons.
And 2. You sound like a complete moron talking to your console.

Inscrit depuis 6981 JoursI personally wouldn't like the idea of kinect constantly listening in, which it would have to do if voice commands like "xbox: on" where to work.

The input lag on the controller was apparently quite a bit worse than the input lag that will exist for the new Kinect, and I was just fine with Halo Reach in that regard. So input lag should be the least of the reasons for why Kinect can't work.
If developers are creative enough, some amazing hybrid games can be created from this thing. Just with the closed fist, open hand and click thing that they've already shown using windows 8, there's a range of gameplay related stuff that they could do with that. But I will continue to believe that Kinect is far better suited for some kind of magic based adventure game or a cool jrpg of some kind. The talent is there to get this done. Microsoft just has to be willing to go out and pay for it at times. Contract a dev for a big first party jrpg or rpg of some kind utilizing Kinect and the controller. It's a lot harder for devs that make these ultra serious games to be successful on Kinect, but for devs that don't mind being a little wacky, or dare I say, kiddie, they can achieve amazing things.

Inscrit depuis 7469 JoursI'm just intrigued by the notion of what it could become. That said, if Microsoft were to ever announce that all games must primarily be played with Kinect, however, then I wouldn't bother with the new xbox. I'm curious, but I don't exactly want to marry the thing. :)

MS have a real risk of doing a WIii-u. Where it's unclear who it's even aimed at! Because they're so fucused on Trying to capture EVERYONE. It doesnt work like that tho. You need a focus, and MS dont seem to have one. They want the casual and the core. But the 360 has proven you can't have both equally. Somethong has to suffer, and it seems to be the core userbase, who ironically got them where they are in the first place.

Before I'm to be convinced that the core userbase is somehow suffering or somehow can't feel welcome on the xbox platform, I need to actually see it first. Lack of diverse First Party content on par with Sony does not qualify, particularly when the majority of core gamers buy and play multiplatform releases far more than they do first party titles on either the 360 or PS3.
When all is said and done, Microsoft may not entirely agree with what a lot of people are saying on forums about the xbox brand not being good enough for core gamers. If there's anything we've learned these past years it's that we hyper enthusiast forum posters certainly don't speak for the majority of core gamers. In fact, we are often wrong in the most brutal of fashions. People expected Kinect to flop, it flourished and sold far better than anybody expected. Everybody was writing Nintendo's obituary prior to the release of the Wii; they were wrong again. Forums universally went nuts for and praised the PS Vita about as much as anything could be praised, and now it's, by any respectable measure, a potential disaster in the making that is getting utterly trashed by the very 3DS forums expected it to destroy thanks to its tech specifications. I'll take a wait and see on how things go. You can accommodate Kinect in real games without it necessarily having to target some casual. If a team is interested and is creative enough, they can make it work.

Inscrit depuis 7577 JoursI don't know how you can still talk up the same "potentials" after years of misery. Kinect is never going to be a good gaming peripheral for traditional games on a traditional console. Good thing Microsoft aint tryin' to make one!
Inscrit depuis 7577 JoursIf he's right. How often does that happen? He must also think that this will give Microsoft a better footing for the non-console future, since it's a flat "win" for Microsoft despite him estimating the same sales numbers for both platforms. And indeed, if its TV functionality is a huge driver, it could put them in a position to more directly control the future of the living room. Which is why Microsoft always wanted. This was never really all about games.
And the PC's comeback as the real hardcore device continues. I can accept that prediction :P

Inscrit depuis 7548 JoursExample 1. Wii -- $249 price point was well below the Xbox 360 Pro ($399; $299 neutered Arcade) and PS3 ($499 / $599). The out of the box experience had the attention of the casual audience in the form of Wii Sports / Waggle. Parents loved the fact the popular video game past time could become an active, family affair.
Example 2. PS2 -- $299 price point was reasonable for a "super computer in a box" as it was trumpeted by the press. The out of the box experience was DVD which the Dreamcast lacked, the GCN did not support, and the Xbox charged for. The PS2 had historic launch sales and quickly netted broad industry support and had the best software library of any generation.
If Sony showed all their cards, as much as I like the PS4 hardware, the Durango console with Skype, TV Tuner, and full Motion/Voice Kinect 2.0 integration offers an out of box experience that may cater to the "iPhone Generation." From a HW perspective if MS has matched Sony's CPU performance and memory MS has made it simply an issue of same game, different visuals. If visuals were cut due to price concerns and/or other features (i.e. Waggle 2.0 and media convergence) MS obviously believes the "gaming market" in general is their target more so than core gamers only caring about core gaming.
THAT would be an interesting debate and to see how it plays out in the open market.
Pwn'd by Phaethon360.
